Rag spread SC style

Possibly Tuesday when all the good weather comes I promised a buddy we would hunt over rags. I got 250 rags and a caller. If anyone would like to join it be first come first serve. There's a chance we won't go because of work issues but I'd like to get an idea of who would like to join so we can converge and wreck shop. Also I would like to leave an open spit for Chris meche If he wants it. So me,buddy, Chris?, plus 3-4 others and we will let the mods decide and if they can't make it that day then ill pick the others that can date informally set for Tuesday 11 day before dooms day during a front. The skies should fall out with them old grumpy geese

Not only is it not closed, it's conservation season. Break out the e-callers and take the plug out of your gun. You must got a hold of the wrong set of regulations.

bgizzle 12-05-2012 08:28 AM

RAGINJROB 12-05-2012 11:04 AM

I have a few hundred rags/winds socks made up in yall need extra. Also have a small caller that might work if you need more than one.

Vermillionaire 12-05-2012 10:40 PM

If this is open for all members, Me and 3dz pro-grades are interested. Still waiting on my performance calls feeding CD. also I have access to 4- 6x9's and a 1000Wt amp in a white sea icechest if needed

I'm going tues aswell unless something changes with work but were going to have alot of ppl this weekend and that'll gimme an idea of the safety factor. Tuesday would be killer. Front forth coming. The work our field the best on NE. We may hunt down the rd a ways if that's where they holding

Vermillionaire 12-05-2012 10:42 PM

Micah 12-06-2012 06:54 PM

Count me out. I got overtime at work that one and only day.

CaptainBG 12-06-2012 07:10 PM

Money talks!

bgizzle 12-08-2012 09:57 PM

Today no shots fired. I didn't go and two guys did. They said they messed up on 3opps and didn't shoot. Bottom line they were set up wrong IMO. That's ok no education given! Tomorrow different setup few fields over should cut em off. We will c. Ill report here then can go from there. Didnt someone say they had rags and a caller?!??! That would be cool with 2 and more than 250rags

bgizzle 12-10-2012 10:20 AM

Ok here's the scoop. Saturday they set up bad wrong and all the geese they shoulda shot started circling behind them. There's a body of geese due south and yesterday we just didnt have enough rags to compete NOT EVEN CLOSE. We shot at 5 groups that looked to me to be for sure close e bought I ground check n missed. Don't know y I missed but I did. Anywho we would definately need more rags and a caller because I wanna throw mine in the trash... Lol. I'm game but its gonna be wet... Tons of geese in the area. Let me know so we can plan on something

saodma 12-10-2012 10:25 AM

I can not go but have access to 10 dz shells with stakes if you would like them. We used them only a couple of times.

swamp snorkler 12-10-2012 10:25 AM

Good luck to yall, hopefully yall murderize them

Top Dawg 12-10-2012 10:47 AM

We put out approx 900 decoys. Rags, full bodies, and shells. We had 2 tornado machines 14 silo sock flyers and 2 e callers. Killed 6 geese. Seems they are already wise to the spreads. Of course there was a big body just south of us and it was sucking everything in. Come on duck season!! I hate snow geese.

Wayyyyy too much!!!!!

j.e.hagen 12-10-2012 11:33 AM

I'm not an expert and I probably got lucky but all I put out yesterday was 12 snow and blue decoys and 6 spec decoys I didn't use an e caller but like I said I most probably got lucky bc they had been using the field we hunted

Top Dawg 12-10-2012 11:43 AM

It helps a lot if they've been using the field. Also I'm no expert at hunting them buzzards but I think just a few full bodies works better than rags. They were freaking out over our spread.

ripinlips 12-10-2012 11:49 AM

All I have access to is about a half dozen speck shell decoys, a vortex, a old cassette tape of geese and a shotgun ;). I would be interested in participating if you have room and decide to give it a go.

I agree I know some people smokem over rags but i would be the one to put them out and they wouldn't come any where near my spread but like I said I'm a rookie

Duck Butter 12-10-2012 01:02 PM

I am going to play devils advocate here and I probably shouldn't but I am going to ayways:spineyes:

You know how duck hunters always talk about the guys that have no idea how to set up the right way, call too much, skybust, bring all these gadgets and decoys and set up wrong and do nothing but educate the ducks and we get mad that they are doint nothing but making lots of racket, scaring off the birds, educating them, and only hunt opening weekend?

Does any of this sound EXACTLY what goes on during the conservation season?:grinpimp::rotfl:

This observation just hit me so don't shoot me

YES!!! Luckily the ones we saw were already educated because the would change their whole flight path just to go around our spread. If was bad I tell ya. BAD! last year we killed double that huntin over 100 oil pads!

I have only been a couple times on snow goose hunts and it was great (until we had to pick up all the decoys):grinpimp:

Our spread looked good Friday night when we put it out all whiskey bent! Lol

It did look good and it worked great on doves. We could of killed a million doves! At least the gumbo was delicious!

bgizzle 12-10-2012 02:56 PM

So lets get a thread participant survey:

Notables:
Body of geese(10k) just 500-750ydd guessing due south.
Was A Se wind 15-20
Tom NNE 5-10. My best speck wind.
We had 2ppl and 250rags so seeing the non honkers behind us definately cost opps.
Birds did work us I screwed up on 2 big flocks but with more ppl It would've been avoided.
Don't know where they will be tomorrow but I'm down to leave laffy round 3 n go with a few ppl and get an idea what we are up against. If like 5-6ppl. Hopefully with shells and I have speck shells.
50% of burds did go out of their way to story our spread but again it was a shorter route to body

bgizzle 12-10-2012 02:58 PM

If like= I'd like. 5-6 ppl to hunt Tom. Me plus 5or 6

bgizzle 12-10-2012 03:02 PM

Oh and that concentration unless they jumped up to move or when a bug wad of geese were coming in even the. They weren't like our callers versions...lol we left it off after 830
