Oil injection opinions
Just bought an 05 mercury 40 with oil injection. I hear some people say they disable it and mix just to be safe. Others say these systems are very reliable now days. Just wondering what everyone thinks about this.

I would disable it. I had an 01 125 merc and it was running fine then all of a sudden just stopped. Oil pump went out and burnt up the motor and of course it was 9 pm couple miles south of 210. I was lucky somebody passed me on the way to the casino with his wife and gave me a tow back to the launch

My motor has been burnt up. Remove it.

Mercurys oil injection is junk....nuff said

I had a 200 Merc oil inj. system go out on me 34 miles offshore.
Had to get towed in. It has a plastic gear off the crank shaft that went out. Why the F would anyone put plastic inside an engine? The guy who took it all out for me wanted the pump/shaft/tank... ect. in exchange for removing it. |
Well, sounds pretty unanimous. I will be deleting it.

The convenience of oil injection is nice, but all it takes is a gear to mess up or a line to get a hole in it and your motor is gone. Pre-mixing is too easy on a small motor, so I don't chance using oil injection.

It is genes sorry. And if there shut down its recently. I deleted mine 2 weeks ago.

Jerry's does not have em I just called

Went to genes last Friday. He didn't have the kit but told me that when he does an injection delete he just pulls the drive gear, plugs off the hoses and reinstalls the pump. So, that's what I done on my 40.

What do you do with the oil sensor and reservoir? Or do they stay on and leave oil in it?
|
Just unplug the wires for the sensor. Its only an alarm. There's a vacuum like that has to be plugged and on the pump itself, just run a tube between the inlet and outlet ports. When u pull the pump, you should be able to grad the drive shaft with needle nose pliers and give it a few jerks to pop it out. Mine on the other hand wouldn't pop out. Had to remove carbs and intake and reed plate and get to it from inside. Just a couple good taps with screwdriver and hammer from the back and it popped right out. Almost forgot. I removed the reservoir completely and will fiberglass the hole in cowling and have it repainted.
