Yeti vs. K2 vs. Igloo Yukon?
I'm thinking about making the investment in one of these. First of all, are they worth the $ and which is the best? I see more Yeti, but K2 are local, don't see many of the Yukon. Thanks for your input.

I have a small Yetie (Roadie). Like it a lot. Quality ice chest.
I also have a 50 quart Yukon that I like also. Both are well made ice chests that should last a long time. If price is cheaper for the Yukon vs Yeti I would go with the Yukon. Beware that because of their quality both ice chests are heavy even when empty. Don't know much about K2 |
Dang the coleman is just as good as the yeti!

All I will say is that I have a yeti and I hate it. It is ridiculously heavy, mars up my boat, and doesn't hold ice any longer when used as a "real ice chest" - i.e. going in and out of it to get drinks. The only plus in my book is that it is indestructible and you can stand on it to fish.
I have been wanting to try K2's because of the local connection and if I get a new one, that will be it. |

Love my K2 beverage box!!!!!

Had the Coleman long before I saw the video and it holds extremely well. Hardware is the main thing like earlier stated.
I would buy more of them. I will be buying K2 now for the simple fact that they are local, I didnt know that! I'll gladly spend the dough for a BD cooler if its supporting the local fella. |

Here's the thing, u don't buy these boxes to save on ice expenses. Because you will never justify a 400$ cooler to save on ice. However you can justify it by the assumption that that $400 chest will outlast 10 $70 ice chest. So in that case buy the most durable. Yeti is more durable than k2. Both hold ice just as long give or take a couple hours. Only reason I put yeti above k2 is the latches. Seems like over time the k2 latches could be broken off
|
Saw some Pelican coolers recently that were very nice.
|
For the price you cant beat the coleman....I have a green 70qt extreme holds ice WAY better than igpoo. I also have a k2 55 cube that I use for drinks in the boat. Bad arse cooler. Got tired of using igloo and ice not lasting a whole fishing trip in the summer heat.

I have to agree with this statement. My K2 will hold ice just fine it is just me and the wife drinking out of it. Let 4 kids start opening it for juice and cokes and the ice doesn't stand a chance. I got mine hoping I wouldn't have to buy 2 or more ice chest a year like I was with the cheap WalMart ones. The cheap Wal Mart ones aren't even that cheap anymore. |
Yeti is the way to go.
|
Look at "Brute Box".....tough as hezz and about 2/3 the price of Yeti.

Dont forget to throw Engel in the mix...I have no problem keeping ice or fish in my cheap marine Igloo...Like others have said its the hardware that sucks...Fill up a 55qt igloo with a couple limits of fish and ice and then lift it up...those handles will come right off after a couple times doing that. The latch that holds the lid shut will break after a few fishing trips also...They do make steel hinges and latches to replace the cheapo ones but they are also pricey for cooler parts..
I'll keep using mine for now b/c its lightweight and its working for me right now...but I've been thinking about getting a k2..support local and have a cooler that matches the boat. Problem is weight for me though...maybe I should lose a few lbs to fix that :p |
i have to disagree with yeti being more durable than k2...i have both name brands and both hold ice the same. When I purchased my k2 it was empty and was driving about 70mph hit a bump and the empty k2 flew out of my boat and cart wheeled about 100 yards down the highway..went picked it up off the side the road..few scratches but the hinges, handles and structure just fine. Hold ice great and still seals perfect!

I love my Coleman, used it during the last 2 hurricanes and had ice for over 5 days

Love my K2 an engel they both surpassed my yeti's

To me it's not all about the ice. That's cheap. Is about durability. You wont find an ice chest better built than the yetis IMO. The K2s are nice but the latches look very cheap and not very durable. It's all personal preference of course but if I'm gonna spend the money I'm gonna buy something that lasts. And the yeti seems to be a lifetime icechest.

The rubber latches will dry rot in a controlled environment, rubber bands go bad in a drawer, tires go bad in a warehouse. The latches on yetis and others will still need replacing along with the gaskets to maintain a seal, or the latches will break. The box is lifetime, but components will go if used outdoors in 5 years I bet. That's why they "sell" replacements.
Even so, I will still be buying a K2 and keeping Coleman's on hand for beating around. The sting is way less noticeable when you leave one at a buddies, or get one yanked out of your truck. |
Had a 65qt yeti fly out of my boat on the way to BL. Didn't notice till I got to Cormies!
Talk about a pissed off SOB! |

not sure about the icechests, but the yeti hats are much cooler than the K2 hats and haven't really seen many people with Coleman hats:grinpimp:

K2 hands down ..... Excellent product and excellent people standing behind it.
I have many of them and will continue to support them, I abuse some of these coolers and I can't seem to break them Capt. Kade Shaw |
I have 2 Colemans and a Yeti(Christmas present). They are all good. The Yeti is too heavy for it's size, but a good ice chest. For the money, the Coleman is a better buy, you can buy 5 for the price of a Yeti, and they are much lighter.
My nephew and brother in law have had several K2's. They all leaked either from the feet or the drain plug. They were replaced several times, under warranty, till they got some that didn't leak. They hold ice good too, but heavy. And for the price, you wouldn't think they would leak when new. If you leave the high end heavy coolers in your boat, it isn't bad. But if you move them a lot, heavy isn't the way to go. For fishing one day, I like my Coleman. Especially the one on wheels. |
I have a Coleman. In the middle of the summer ice will not make it through the day.
Got a K2 and so far very happy with it. Haven't had it out in the summer yet, but deer hunting it has done great. |

I use mine during Contraband Days on my big boat. One for food and one for drinks. The food one lasts about 3 days. The drink cooler about 2 days cause I go in it more. I put the cooler in the house the night before, then load with cold drinks, not hot drinks. Then blue blocks from the freezer, then ice on top. The ice will freeze to the blue blocks and last a lot longer than without. If you want it to last longer, use block ice and break into chunks. The bigger the ice chunks, the longer they will last. If you put hot drinks in a hot cooler, the ice won't last long at all. |
yes, the extreme. It is under the seat so it is exposed to the sun.

That SOB had some weight to it too. It all boils down to never leave ur ice chest riding behind ur lean post or racing seats and y'all be fine! |

I saw a 90qt igloo start levitating behind my leaning post running about 60 mph on the water, but it was empty, and half the weight of a yeti! I have a 50 qt yeti that rides in the damdest of places, like on top my tool box in the truck, or the deck of a boat in rough water, and the dam thing sticks like glue! That's the only reason I ask! I sure hope no one clipped it off of ya! |
No it wasn't stolen. I put the beer and water in it right before I pulled out the driveway and I never stopped till I got to Cormies.
|
I have two Coleman Extremes and have not one complaint. In the heat of summer they hold ice very well. As far as ice I never run out and it doesn't cost except regular house expense. If you have an ice maker just bag your own and stack it in the freezer and you always have ice. Ray learned me that trick.

I say check out the Canyon coolers. I have had one for over a year now. It is every bit as durable as a yeti and about 1/3rd the price. You can find them locally for less than the msrp listed.

I have to say I'm a firm believer in post previous not sayin you lyin baybolt. My yeti(75) is my rodholder in my truck and it DON'T MOVE you gotta force it in the bed of the truck because it bonds so well. Sry bout your incident. I don't even strap it down empty.,..
|
I have a couple of the Yetis, and a big Coleman. Looked hard @ the k2, but they just don't have the fit and finish the Yetis have. Plus the Yeti fits under my leaning post better. As far as holding ice, just depends how often it gets opened.. Have the Coleman for bleeding deer meat out for up to 5 days without adding ice.

I have both yeti and k2 and can't say anything bad about either one. Yeti is much better quality. I've checked out Pelican coolers at Lafayette Shooters also. There the same price as a yeti and seem very well built also.
