looking for back way to big lake wiers

Anyone know anything about this little landing off of Hwy 27/ W Creole Hwy?
29.8438, -93.1095

I don't want to trespass on anything but I'd like to launch here and see what I can get into.
Also, is there a special place on this board for coordinates or mapping purposes dealing with fishing spots and landings/ launches?

calcutta37 03-03-2013 06:48 PM

Don't know Dave but it looks good back there..

Ray 03-03-2013 07:50 PM

There is no back way to the weirs.
That is Miami property. The Miami permit is not good on that side of the road.
That is the hunters and trappers launch. You can only launch there if you have a duck lease, and only during duck season.
There is a commercial crabber who launches there also.

Montauk17 03-03-2013 07:53 PM

Anytime you see a small launch off the beaten path more than likely it is private.

Ray 03-03-2013 07:56 PM

There was a boat house back there before Rita.
The past judge uses that launch, and the past land manager used it too.
Most of the individuals that launched there with duck leases were ran out and the leases were changed over to clubs and large businesses.

Ray 03-03-2013 07:58 PM

You don't want to launch a bay boat there either.
Without a tunnel hull, go devil, mud motor or mud boat, you ain't getting far.
Lots of shallow water and deep slush. No getting out of the boat.

Micah 03-03-2013 08:17 PM

Everything Ray said plus that road is gated too.

Gotta run the lake!

david79thomas 03-03-2013 08:45 PM

How wide are those wiers? My boat is 8'6" wide

I made a map a few years back!!! And always wait for the question !!!!

Thanks for letting me post this!!!

(btw party barges go through the weirs ) your fine

calcutta37 03-03-2013 08:53 PM

Your boat will fit

calcutta37 03-03-2013 08:54 PM

Dave how fast is that boat

BayBolt23 03-03-2013 08:54 PM

Dude that pic is funny azz hell

david79thomas 03-03-2013 09:11 PM

I'm working on the speed, but from my rookie skill level of jack plates I got it to 73. Talked to someone who got one like mine the fastest I've heard of and he told me some pointers that should get me at least to 83-85. He said the boat should go faster though. Hey, 73 is way fast enough. It don't chine walk like a v hull. Solid.
I'd be pumped to get it through the wiers. The fish master barely fit

Raymond 03-03-2013 09:19 PM

Cotton well rd, locked gate just over bridge.
What ray said, Soupy

I went to one of the weirs once and the current and drop were so scary I chickened out and didn't try to go through. Are all the weirs the same, or is one easier to go through than another? Is there some trick to passing through, or do you just have to go for it? There were several boats back there, but my boat looked bigger, and taller than those boats.

Raymond 03-04-2013 11:14 PM

Grand bayou is the only one open and yes it does get small the closer you get. It's like the bamboo shoot at astro world give it gas and hit the hole.

also take your rods out of the rod holders before you go through

ReelSlick 03-05-2013 11:20 AM

Keep hands, arms, feet, and trolling motor inside sides of your boat too. hammer down

meathauler 03-05-2013 11:22 AM

And always go faster then then current is flowing when going down current. Creeping through it is not always better. Make sure that if water level is high you put windshield down if you can.
O yea one more thing. Have good insurance or a best friend that does fiberglass!!!!

jdm4x43732 03-05-2013 12:21 PM

Water was coming out so fast the other day the drop was so bad I had to lock my hubs on my boat to climb up.

Private launch for Miami Corp.
Do not go there Dave!!! They will make your life miserable if they catch you launching there, if you can even get to it.

david79thomas 03-05-2013 08:41 PM

Thanks for all the advice and tips! I won't go to that launch, but ones like that I find on aerials seem inviting. But I know if it doesn't look like a public landing, then it isn't. It would be nice to find a way to get a permit for some of those types of launches just for something different and exclusive. A separate saltycajun forum for coordinates could be useful, what do y'all think? I'm a draftsman and make maps, so I know I could make one that shows where the coords are for reference.

Yeah I have a buddy that has a story of all their poles snapped from a wier by not putting them down LOL. I've been in a fish master, but worried about my new one. I just payed a lot of money on fiberglass repairs from the previous owner and am trying to hold off on putting my own damage. Why did they make those wiers so small??
