Flounder have moved out of the marsh
4 Attachment(s)
I went down to Cameron to fish with some friends after church today.
7 of us caught 70 flounder in the Old River area on a mud bank. Most were caught on yellow and white double Speck rigs, slow dragged across the bottom. About 15 of them were over 2 lbs., the rest were 1 to 2 lbs. Most of the guys I fished with only wanted the big or med. ones. I cleaned the rest and put up in the freezer. I am in good shape for the winter now. I baked 2 of them for 10 minutes, then pulled the black skin off, basted and cooked another 10 minutes. My wife and I wiped them out. |
i need to figure out how to catch these
NICE catch though |
Dang RAY..Nice
|
ray, looks like you had some fun. obviously you didn't check the conductivity report or you never would have gone :p
|
Ray, y'all bone pickers or what?
Nice catch. |
Thanks. It was cold when running the boat, but once we stopped, it was nice, sunny and cool.
Yak, we just slow dragged the old fashioned Speck rigs across the bottom. If you jerked or moved them too fast, no bite. It took us a while to find what lures they would hit on. But once we did, it was on. That is how I like my Flounders. Baked or broiled. |
nice catch yall gonna stuff some
|
I found new penny gulp KILLS them i just put it on a jig head and do the same thing.... just drag really slow on the bottom. last year this time i cought my biggest one yet 5.2lbs at first i thought it was a stingray D:

feel free to call when you stuff a few ;) |
I missed the Saints game for this trip. That's why they won so well.
A friend called and said some other friends were on the Flounder, but the one on the phone's boat wasn't running. I ran down to Cameron to launch, it was too cold to run from L.C. to Cameron by boat. I have been on Flounder before, but never like this. If you chunked the Speck rig far enough and dragged it back in slow enough, you were going to catch a Flounder on every throw. But you had to retrieve real real slow. |

Me and 2 friends went again today.
We caught 30 flounder, but it took us a lot longer. We had to move farther South too. We fished the same mud flat and didn't catch craap. We eased down the river and started picking them up on the South side of St. John's. 1 good sized one, 2 med. sized ones and the rest were 1 to 1.5 lbs. I am thinking about looking for some trout in the morning, after it warms up a little. I got some new lures from Mikethetiger55 that I need to try out. And I can't seem to get the fish smell off my hands. I have cleaned way too many Flounder in the past 2 days. |
We had stuffed Flounder last night, stuffed with crab meat and tonight we are having fried Flounder.
I am going to fillet one of the bigger ones as soon as it thaws out and cook some fresh corn on the cob I got last week. Looks like it is going to be a Flounder winter for me. |
nice catch...
Ray... thanks for the report! That does fire me up... may have to head down south tommorrow.
