twic card question

Are they all the same? If you get one in LA would it be good in MS or AL? What all do you need to bring ti get one? Is there any testing or do you just bring documents and pay the fee?

Top Dawg 04-10-2013 12:52 PM

No test. Government just wants your money.

swamp snorkler 04-10-2013 12:54 PM

They are good nation wide

Finfeatherfur 04-10-2013 12:54 PM

Yes, it is a federal form of ID, goes everywhere!

Goooh 04-10-2013 12:54 PM

Valid everywhere, no test, document requirements are on the twic site. You'll need to make an appointment online and fill out the app there too. Then bring all the docs to the appointment, do fingerprints and stuff, then go back when it comes in and pick it up in person.

adamsfence 04-10-2013 12:56 PM

All they want is your money

You should be able to use it as a passport but of course not.

You can get an extension online. It's x amount of $ for a 3 year and x amount for a 5 year. Go pick it up when it comes in. That's what some guys that work with me did. Even if you have an appointment to pick it up you may very well be there for a few hours.

breambuster 04-10-2013 01:27 PM

Anybody know if you can call and schedule an appointment? The website isnt showing anything for availability at all. Tried lake charles and laffayette. Even for september. Not sure if i just cant do it from my phone or what

Suthrngntlmn 04-10-2013 01:53 PM

Lake Charles office opens at 8:30, I got there at 7:50 and signed in as #22. Left at 11:00, bring something to read. They take appointments ahead of the line when it's their time.

getonfish 04-10-2013 03:26 PM

TSA.gov/TWIC

there is a place on there to pick an office and make an appointment.

OhSoEasy 04-10-2013 03:54 PM

In Lafayette, you don't need to make an appointment. I've been there a few times and it definitely wasn't a 2-3 hour wait. 30 tops. Bring a social security card or birth certificate and of course your drivers license.

Bushwacker2 04-10-2013 03:58 PM

Appointment is the way to go. Seen several people waiting two to three hours.

I just had mine renewed. I went to Port Arthur because there was no appointments available in Lake Charles. There was available appointments just about everyday and any time in Port Arthur.

I heard this today at firefighting school. Said sometimes they offer a government discount but you have to ask about it.

I do 150 nights a year on it, I figure they yank enough taxes from me that the least I can do is exploit the discount!

If you book online through Marriott, Hilton or IHG they give the option under rate type - select Gov, show up and hand them the card, credit card and drivers license when you check in and it's a done deal.

The web police will be ragging me in a minute on here. I'm sure it will be someone without a TWIC too...

Sea-Trac Offshore 04-10-2013 09:47 PM

5 year card hear. Use it at least 4 times a week for different docks and yards. Make an appointment like others say.

I just got mine renewed Monday. One more time in another 5 years and that's all for me.

I missed my appointment due to weather and they made me wait for 2 months to get another appointment, but the TWIC would be expired. So I waited for 2 hours and 45 freakin minutes, just to pick it up.

I heard from co-workers that Lafayette is a lot better. So is Mobile, Ala.
Next time I am going to Lafayette.

DA COVE 04-10-2013 10:20 PM

Lafayette is only slightly better, maybe?? When I was there getting mine renewed, there was a guy there with an appoinment that had been waiting 2.5 hrs just to pick his up. Got my first in Lake Charles, don't see much differance in the two locations..
