Advice on Costa Sunglasses?
I decided to spend the money on a nice pair of Costa sunglasses. I wanted to get info from any owners out there. I'm not sure what the lens colors are all about. I know one is good for every day use, one is good for fishing Bluewater, and one is good for fishing fresh water. At least that's what I've heard. I mainly fish in the marsh and a few bass ponds but I also plan on using them for my days on the road. Can you guys give me any info on which colors have been most helpful in those situations. Or does it even matter?

Also, I've heard that some of the lenses make it hard to see screens (GPS, phone, etc..) and I want to make sure that's not the case with the ones I get.

Acadiana outfitters had a few on clearance when I went last week. They also had a decent selection. As far as for color, I like the amber a little more than I like my green when bass fishing.

I think any polarized lenses are going to make it difficult to see cell phone screens.

i have the 580g blue mirror and while it is hard to see the phone screen they are def worth every penny. something else to consider is getting the proper frame that fits. they make all different size and shapes of frames. I have the fisch and they fit my melon head great

Green or blue 580g I have been wearing costas for 6 years now an I wouldn't ever buy a diff brand of glasses I own five pairs love them
|
I've got brine 580 blue mirror, and love them .. I've had them for about 4 years now and no problem and believe me I have abused them
Sent off one time for repairs through no fault of the glasses ... I broke them ... The service I received from costa was second to none |
it can make screens hard to see, but its not enough of a problem to talk you out of it .. It is unreal the things you will notice at first that are not visible to the naked eye
|
Bass Pro has a good selection and Academy has a decent selection but I just tried frames till I found the ones I wanted then watched ebay where I picked up some 580g blackfins for $75 and then another style frame with same lens from steepandcheap for $75 and both retail well over $200 each

I have some green mirror 400's and blue mirror 580g's and don't notice a difference. I do love them though. And X2 on tryin different frames, you can have a long face like a jackass, or a box head like a ba$tard alley cat and no frame will fit the same.

I have the Hammerheads with green mirror lenses and I love them. All I mainly fish is marsh and inshore and they have worked great for me. They are going on 3 years old and just recently started having problems with the rubber nose piece. I'll probably buy another pair and then send these in to be fixed that way I always have a back up pair.

bronze or amber lenses are the way to go... my wife's costas have the amber lenses which are comparable to my bronze maui's... which is pretty impressive
|
green mirror is the best for fishing inshore murky water. It is the amber lens with a green mirror to reflect the sunlight. Just for pure fishing the amber or copper is good but for driving the mirror is helpful. The blue mirror is for fishing blue water.

been having mine for about 4 years now. I have the green mirror 580g and still don't have a scratch on them. I use them for mainly bass, but also inshore, I can usually spot fish before anyone else in the boat.
The cell phone screens and everything will be hard to see with any good polarized glasses. Interesting fact for you all to try: Take two pairs of Costas and put the lenses against each other but have them at a 90 degree angle and try to look through the lense. You will not be able to see through them, which tells you that they are very well polarized. Cheap sunglasses when you do this, you can still see through them. |
Thanks for all of the input. I think I'll be going with the green mirror 580g fantail.

Ordered a pair of harpoons green mirror 580 today. My 1st costas
|
Green Mirror 580 Fathom's use every day and hang from my visor in truck. Not a scratch on them. Def want a second pair.

Costas are my favorite! I tried out some fishing sunglasses from Oakley. They were free, but they just weren't dark enough. I'm with Costa all the way.
I am actually giving away a pair on my Facebook page. It's pinned to the top of the page. Swamp Stallion Fishing Adventures Facebook Page |
