Poor fella

Stopped after seeing this guy on the side of the road just before the 182 overpass on Hwy 90, the best road in the whole south. right lane is really bumpy and the boat came off the hitch, broke the safety cables, passed him up and ended up here. No one was hurt, he had the boat for a week and just came from his insurance office so at least he was insured. Not much damage to the boat, just a ding on the keel from the winch tower. As for the trailer, the tongue was buried so we couldn't see what caused it to come unhitched.

Be careful out there folks.

I bet his nuts were in his stomach on that. I hope you gave him a hug, cause he could have used it!

I always put a pin through the hole in the hitch for that reason... Also why I drive in the left lane on most of 90

Thats 5 minutes from my house. I see that sign every day. They just repaved 4 miles of 90 right behind the overpass he just crossed.

Salty 05-18-2013 12:02 AM

No safety chains?

Goooh 05-18-2013 03:01 AM

By the looks of his pickemup, doubt he hooked up right... Just judging

"W" 05-18-2013 05:56 AM

PINTLE HITCH ......my buddy put this hookup on after his Dad didn't get the trailer on the ball right...once the trailer dropped off and the two spares(mounted on the trailer ) hit the pavement they blew out and the safety chains broke....his boat took a 10 ft section of guard rail into the hull...

I didn't think those were legal for highways.

southern151 05-18-2013 09:27 AM

I put a lock through every trailer I pull. It's not because I think someone will steal it, its so I know that its attached properly. Call it a control, I guess. Too many years of working in the plants! LOL!

That pin will save ya some headaches! That up and down bouncing motion on 90 can force the hitch to pop open. Great point Bob.

They are legal. We use them all them time at my job but they will beat the crap out of you.

You can pin the latch or pad lock it all day but if it isn't latched around the ball she is bouncing off. Look at my tailgate it is a prime example. My buddy did it on the 4th day I had my truck. Latched it up sitting on top of the ball, went to load the 4 wheeler, bam the trailer shot up into my tailgate.

I won't drive a truck unless it is dinged up anyway. LOL

vbay 05-19-2013 07:46 PM

I did that also. Yes I have a T-top. going slow & safety chains held. Texting while latching?
