This is crazy

If you ever wanted to fish big lake but don't have a boat then today's the day. You could walk across the lake stepping boat to boat. I remember why I like fishing during the week

"W" 06-15-2013 10:15 AM

I drove to launch on golf cart around 630 and just LMAO...i was like yep!! Nice to have a camp to sleep late and just enjoy the nice air

swt70611 06-15-2013 10:36 AM

The line at cal point was lmao. Not catching but fun watch the kiddos try. W bring me a beer

"W" 06-15-2013 10:50 AM

I drank so much beer last night i dont want to taste beer till atleast 3

swt70611 06-15-2013 10:54 AM

goldenrod 06-15-2013 10:55 AM

Big puss

Bdub 06-15-2013 11:00 AM

I was at the launch at 5 and there was a line...Don't even get me started on the potlickers that motored up with the big motor while I was under birds, and started casting over my bow when I blocked em. Literally had shrimp jumping between boats. I told em they were sitting on top of the fish and they looked at me like I was speaking in Chinese.

#1 rule of the new Big Lake
Stay Stay Stay Stay away from birds, learn the lake and you will find fishing birds fishing is for people who do not understand how to fish lake
Let them chase them and you can go off and fish

I have not fished a group of birds in a very long time...if no one is around and i see a group i will try them but it will never be on a weekend

"W" 06-15-2013 11:46 AM

While we are talking about beer ; told my wife pick me up a case of Miller light 10oz

Shows up with 3 12packs of these new 8oz cans...these things go down with 3 sips easy... next thing I know I have a 12 pack counting gone!!!

Room was spinning for a few hours when i laid down

Friday was bad too, are Mondays usually that packed?

PaulMyers 06-15-2013 12:40 PM

Not near as many boats starting Sunday afternoon. Friday is now just as bad as Saturday most of the time.

Bdub 06-15-2013 12:47 PM

Last sunday wasn't near as bad as last Saturday, also noticed today everyone ran south. Ymbc tourney don't help none either.

There were at least 45 boats at jetties at one point. Probably 25 more boats went out the end and turned right. I bet boats were all over the rocks on the beach. Only saw 1 boat that looked like it was headed out for some snapper.

Bdub 06-15-2013 01:20 PM

I didn't hear much good from anyone at heberts Saturday so they must have all been weekend warriors

ckinchen 06-15-2013 01:26 PM

We picked up the 5th wheel this morning for our trip to grand isle. I went by spicers and I have never seen this many boats. A couple of dummies in a t-top by my camp were leaving to fish at 8:15. I told them they just missed the bite. If you are going to bother fishing on a sat morning you better get up early...

ckinchen 06-15-2013 01:27 PM

I went by our pier the channel for a few minutes. The channel looked like 1-10 in houston.... Lots of boats running four wide

Baybolt that's awesome

"W" 06-15-2013 07:40 PM

Ok...i went down to landing today around 2pm

Just road golf cart from boat to boat seeing what people caught

I talked to atleast 22-25 boats and between all of them total of 15 trout and about 18 reds 2 flounder

Black Drum about 7

Now talking to these people for just about all of them, this is about normal trip burn 20 gals of fuel and 3 fish...

So what keeps them coming back???

I seen some of the biggest rod n reel combos in my life!!! I had to drink beer to enjoy the conversations!!

I seen 100 Heavy Heavy Heavy Rods..... one boat had Some all stars and one had a falcon..Rest were offshore rated rods...you could catch Marlin on them

And pop n corks that would keep your boat a float

Bdub 06-15-2013 07:49 PM

I burned 1.5 gallons of gas in my 16ft aluminum boat, went through 1 sand eel and 2 gulps....one jighead the whole morning. Guess I did pretty good.

That's about right 10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the trout.

Great question. I think its testament to man's faith in himself and overwhelming instinct to get away from the house on weekends.

If it does suck, its definately a lesser suck than sitting at the house!!! Thus the drive to hit the lake regardless of the outcome. LOL

bobo23 06-16-2013 08:56 AM

I've had plenty of slow trips but some good one's too. What keeps me coming back is the challenge to get better and eventually experience more consistent success. I do find myself hitting the lake on Sunday afternoons more and more often just to avoid the crowds. Good thread.

What keeps them coming back? Well W, it's the same thing that made you love fishing enough to stay with it and become the Grand Master of Big Lake. Fishing with fathers and sons, friends and brothers, seeing the joy of a "poppin cork" newbe catching fish and they can't thank you enough for taking them fishing with you. It's not about the dock shot of a full limit. It's something that can't be explained but all us fishermen know what I mean. Let's let the "offshore rod" fisherman have their day too! We all, at some point, didn't know what the hell we were doing, but we learned from our mistakes or from other fisherman who were patient enough to show us. And the cycle continues............

swt70611 06-16-2013 03:58 PM

I hate to join the bashing so I won't. 12 years ago I had my oldest boy. Before that I duck hunted and golfed. I was good at both. But then came the kids. My wife's idea, but that's another story. Now I'm a baseball dad that fishes every once and awhile. Hard to be good that way but no time to study the art. Have seem over 100 ball games this year.

We only caught 2 reds, 2 specs and a **** ton of hard heads today. Kids had a blast with the hard heads. Good Father's Day sucking at fishing.

I think we all let our egos get in the way a lot and we forget why we love it so much.

That and people get way too offended about what someone posts on the internet.

I'm no "expert". But I enjoy helping new people out with spots and advice when I can. I also really enjoy taking others out and showing them a good time fishing. Isn't that why we all come to salty Cajun and similar sites? To share stories and tips with fellow fishermen?

Not everyone comes on here for that reason....egos and sms gets in the way sometimes.

"W" 06-16-2013 05:21 PM

The point is no one has a problem with people who want to go fish
... i dont care if you cant fish or can

My point is people need to learn respect and boat edict... Dont ruin anothers persons trip who is catching fish by being just boat stupid!! Dont run your big motor up to a boat because he is catching fish and your not... if people would just watch they would learn more from watching than being a idiot and messing up the ones who can fish!!! ( i speak for a lot of fisherman and guides)

I dont make a living off the water but i do guide part time and when i work my tail off to put someone on fish, too have a idiot come bust up my fish because he is clueless...

Mako19 06-16-2013 06:42 PM

W = Most interesting man on BL.

If you cant catch limits you dont deserve to enjoy being in the water with friends and family.

*******. You need to remember when you were learning the water.

Not everyone is born catching limits like you.

Where in the hell did anyone say anything about limits... im talking about boat common respect . can we not talk about common respect of fisherman with out someone getting all butthurt crying about something were not even talking about ?

Is it too much to ask a person to use his trolling motor or not get so close i can hit his boat with bait?? Or throw his anchor 15 feet ??

Is it too much to as for respect?? I give every angler respect on the water until its taken!!!
