TM Quick Release Bracket

Does anyone have the Quick Release Bracket on the bow for their minn kota TM or ipilot. Just wondering how it works with the tm. does it stay on the bow r does it stay with the TM when you take it off. Im thinking about installing one. i wanted to when i bought the boat but forgot to mention it. I like to take tm off during over night trip.
Thanks

Did Minn Kota fix you up with a new shaft or a whole new TM?

I know several people who have had their I-pilot do the exact thing youra did.

I have it on mine, works great. Takes less than a minute to take the TM off. Comes in handy when taking the kids tubing or riding on the river.

That's pretty cool they took care of the glass damage. The quick release brackets work good. Only bad thing is you will have to drill 4 new holes, the hole pattern is different than the trolling motor.

i would most likely have to drill more holes in my deck once i get this right? o there's my answer. im sure i could close those extra holes with something.

what about drilling the same pilot hole in the Quick Release Bracket that was used for the TM. instead of more holes in the boat. what yall think about that option?

not sure about the new ones, but probably wouldn't work with mine. Not much room to redrill any holes.

Won't work....would have to look at the bracket to see that you have to drill new holes. Look at this pic....the smaller block mounts to the deck.

I have one on my boat and really enjoy it.

You could try mounting the small puck to a piece of aluminum plate, then mounting the aluminum plate using the holes you already have. You'd have to account for the screw heads sticking up, or use a piece of aluminum plate that is thick enough to use counter sunk flat head screws. Otherwise the TM part of the quick release bracket might not fit flush, and then you won't be able to get the handle/lock to fit in the holes.

Oh and I would definitely recommend using toggle bolts to mount the puck or plate to the boat. I tried using those rubber well nuts from motorguide. That damn ipilot kicks in hard when it wants to keep you anchored. Ripped the rubber well nuts almost all the way out. I had a rope tied to the TM and the bow cleat for good measure.

p.s. I got the stainless toggle bolts at west marine. About $30 for 4. I think the packaging had them being used to mount chairs to boat decks.

No doubt about the anchor toggler's....the rubber mounts will also expand and makes it almost impossible to remove.

Love mine. Stays in the shed when not in use. Slaps on in about 20 seconds

Montauk17 07-08-2013 05:58 PM

For how much the ipilot cost it would be nice if they would include one in the box.

I regret not getting one from the start. My boat already has enough holes in it.

Ill pass on this idea. Ill just drill new holes for the small plate and plug up the old ones. Thanks for the info fellas

I would use some 3m 5200 adhesive to cover the holes,or let a glass shop cover em.

Get you a piece of 1/2" starboard. Drill it to your existing holes, counter sink the screws in the starboard. Mount the puck to the starboard, counter sink the holes on the bottom of the starboard so it will sit flush. Problem solved. The starboard is white just like the minnkota puck
