Rino liner question.

What you guys think? I was thinking about rino lining my lower unit. Being that I scratched up my lower unit pretty good this weekend.

That's something that's bound to happen at some point in time but with the rino liner, at least you know its protected when I hear that lower unit hitting tuff under water.

Lets hear it

No. Most likely, it won't stick and, it's very apt to clog ports. Also, you'd have issues with bolts and threads that correspond.

DA COVE 08-04-2013 09:30 AM

Nope. I wouldn't. It will peel and possibly block ur intake ports.. Just live with the rash or paint it up every trip..

LPfishnTIM 08-04-2013 09:43 AM

get a river runner skeg.

calcutta37 08-04-2013 10:59 AM

Don't do it. It's just part of owning a boat.

AceArcher 08-04-2013 11:10 AM

I wouldn't do rhino lining, The do sell stainless covers for skegs etc... that would be the way to go.

Just live with it. It's Aluminum.

I just repaint mine with the factory paint every winter. It's just part of normal ware. Make sure to tape all of your intakes before repainting.

It would actually probably slow u down/hurt your water pressure going into the engine. Look up Gator Glide or get a skeg guard

Montauk17 08-04-2013 02:47 PM

I don't care for the skeg guards...if you hit something hard enough it will rip the whole skeg off. The two holes you have to drill to mount it creates a weak point and will break if you hit something hard. I would not rhino line it like already mentioned. Just part of it,after a while it won't bother you.

alphaman 08-04-2013 02:50 PM

I say lower unit. I was refering to the bottom half. rino line gear housing down to the skeg. Which is below water intake ports

Don't do it Alpha!
Leave it be and worry about fishing, touch it up in the winter!

alphaman 08-04-2013 02:59 PM

I doubt it would stay on....it's good in a truck bed but the friction and weight of a boat rubbing on the bottom I doubt it would last. If you do decide to try it make sure whoever does it to cover up the bottom drain plug before it is sprayed.

bayouchub 08-04-2013 03:55 PM

I would use flex seal!

gasdad 08-04-2013 07:52 PM

I would not do it. Many others have commented why. My main concerns would be slowing you down because of increased resistance (rhino is not smooth and slick like paint). My next concern would be resale value. Buyer may think u are trying to hide something or he would never have done that with his own motor.

just stay in the bayou next time and you wont have to worry about scratching it up;)

Strip the paint and polish it. It will look like a high performance foot.
