The Sabine King
Over the past two years, I am noticing the fishing pressure increasing on Sabine Lake. I grew up in Johnson Bayou and have fished this lake all my life. I have guided for the last 15 years on this lake. Sabine has always been in my opinion the best lake around but it will humble you also. You either slam or bust. For as redfish its a no brainer, a limit of them are no problem. Whats crazy, is that i live now 15 minutes, from calcasieu due to the hurricanes, but i choose NOT TO GUIDE THERE. I am true to my own waters. So why hire guides from Calcasiue to fish Sabine? Hire originals. Just food for thought for the day. |

WE have atleast 15 guides on Sabine.

Its all W's fault

I grew up fishing out of Johnsons Bayou. Sabine is still my favorite place to fish. You are correct, the Sabine can change day to day. Water clairity and salinity fluctuate more that other coastal lakes. A guide who only fish the Sabine gives you a much better chance of finding fish.
I try to fish the sabine every year for a week, durring eairly summer. Sometimes I get lucky and one of my old holes is holding fish or I just happen upon a school. Most of the time I have to put in some work to figure out what the pattern is. |

First, you never hear about Sabine guides. Second it's not easy to get to Johnson Bayou. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but that's the two things that pops into my head.

Well you will never have to worry about this running to Sabine with customers...if I cant catch them on my lake it is just not going to happen
People hire a guide to fish Big Lake not Sabine so I will stay in Big Lake but have no problem with other guides running to Sabine to fish, just dont make post like you caught them in Big Lake (that does piss me off) |
I also fish sabine only and agree with the capt that guides should for the most part stay on there home waters but there have been times that guys like ****ie colburn and adam jaynes fished alot on big lake.
I just hope sabine does not see the same problems that big lake does now like over crowding and and insane amount of guides. Chances are it will not because of the access and lodging issues but you never know. |
I bet you've noticed a huge increase in pressure the last month after bgizzle's report lol

If louisiana guides and fisherman should stay on their lake, should Texas fisherman stay on their home state forums?

We have more Texas people fishing our lake than there own
Why do they drive from Houston and pass up Sabine to fish Big Lake?? O wait.... Our "Lake was Named Trophy Lake " = reason for our 15 trout limit |

How did this turn into a TX vs LA thing? The original post never mentions this. He only stated that guides should stay on their home lake. Like Mr. Crab said Sabine belongs to both states.

Baffin , Matagorda sure wouldn't go east.

Who cares where people fish. If someone goes to sabine and smashes them while everyone on big lake is struggling good for them. They put in the extra work. Everyone has the same ability to get over there. I know if i booked a trip i'd rather take a longer run and catch fish than hop around from spot to spot and not catch fish. Most of the time if no one has noticed, when people are going to sabine, no one is catching many fish in BL

Do the words:
It's a free country mean anything anymore? I am officially in favor of everyone enjoying the fishing wherever they want to fish, and guides taking their customers wherever they want to go. Have fun and be safe this weekend! |

I know both lakes and will travel to wherever the fish are my customers book to catch when bl sux Sabine is usually on when bl is on fire Sabine usually sux somedays no tide on bl and good tide on Sabine..don't get mad Robby... It's just like the tx guides coming over for flounder bottom line is customers wanna catch and will travel there's only a few mos I run there and only on certain weather conditions it varies day to day.... U quit guiding here bc if the pressure on bl bc less over there I've never advertised Sabine one time out of respect for the tx guides but to say y'all know it better than the bl guides I beg to differ I've called several over there the days I fish and they in the20s and we done by 9... But yea Robby is one of the best on Sabine but u know damn good and well i outfish the majority of the other Sabine guides over there.. Don't get mad I'm doing same thing u did yrs back I just have 2 options for customers
|
this kinda sounds like the toledo bend guides vs the sam rayburn guides. lol
it's only gonna get worse with time. the more people they show good spots too, the less good spots they will have. |
