New Duck Parka/Jacket

It's time.........old Columbia jacket just ain't dry anymore. Got soaked in Canada........

What are you guys buying/wearing?

Goooh 09-21-2013 12:36 PM

Frog togg a little big, and layer with high quality base layers and fleece below. Cheap, super dry, easy to pack and transport, and doesn't ruin my day when it gets torn or samthin.

I got a cabelas 3-1 wader jacket and a drake full zip with the fleece on the bottom for when I'm hunting flooded timber so I can tuck it in my waders.

Columbia used to garruntee their coats. Send old coat to them and they would send you a new coat. Worth a try.

They did it for a friend of mine last year. They sent him a brand new 4in1 parka. His was a good 9-10 years old.

I'm going to give this a try. I actually have two. One is old school when Columbia was still in Oregon......it has to be close to thirty years old.
My "new" Quad parka is 18 years old I think.

If the replace these things, I swear I will never buy anything else!!

Gottogo49 09-21-2013 03:59 PM

Kobuk for cold, cheap vinyl stearns for warm.
Frog togs have gotten me wet in real rain.
They are Ok for a light mist.

I couldn't believe it either! His was very old. But not that old. Worth a shot for sure.

mallarddecoyryt 09-21-2013 04:24 PM

Columbia will send you a new coat. Zipper broke on mine after 4 years. Call or email them explaining what is wrong. Will take a while for them to send a new one. Make you have an old back up. But you will get a new coat

specktator 09-21-2013 04:37 PM

I use a Drake Equador which usually is plenty around here. If it's real cold, rainy, or windy I will put my drake rain jacket on over it. All you need in LA.

AubreyLaHaye458 09-21-2013 04:56 PM

I hunted in the pouring down rain last year more than once, and never get wet at all.

Every drake product I have owned has leaked. I've had good luck with cabelas dry plus and browning. Never heard anything had about Columbia either.

My drake jackets leaked too will not buy another "waterproof" drake product

iron man 10-07-2013 07:36 PM

Need to buy something waterproof soon. Virginia rain is no joke.

Quackhead62 10-07-2013 08:31 PM

All Drake here. Have the quater zip pull over with the vents on the sides for the warmer days and for the cold days the Drake fleece base layer and you are good for the low 20's

Have been wearing a UA skysweeper jacket for 3yrs. Lightweight, fits inside waders, very warm and wind proof. Have worn it in a good rain and it holds up, but I don't think it will keep you dry in the serious rain. Overall love the jacket, for the price. Think it was around $160. Next purchase will be Columbia though.. Last one was 15yrs old when I lost it.

Vermillionaire 10-07-2013 10:31 PM

I would go with Colombia, or a Helly Hansen slicker and layer up. The latter would be less bulky and the best bet for staying dry.

Seems like they just seaped through the material once it got saturated was in a torrential down pour last year with my cabelas dry plus and stayed dry

specktator 10-08-2013 11:01 AM

Yeh Drake definitely won't keep you dry in a down pour.

MarshRat89 10-08-2013 11:55 AM

That's awesome they warrantied that. Def buying Columbia next time.

Yep.. Had a Columbia zipper brake on me and I called them and without a problem he gave me an address to send it to and I had a new jacket in a few weeks. Jacket was 3 years old I believe, but excellent service

southLA 10-10-2013 12:57 AM

I have a Redhead 4n1.

Keeps me completely dry in downpours. Great jacket.
