Weirs opening tomorrow...
Anyone going to try their luck? They said it would be opening tomorrow at sunrise. Should be good back there.
|
I'll be there!
|
Might be worth taking a sick day, get a little cast and blast in!
|
I used to go back there in my old kenner. The Triton is a little too wide for comfort

Which tide is the tide to hit for catching reds out the mouth of the weir? Is that an outgoing tide in the afternoon?
|
As long as the water is moving they should be there. But I have caught them without the water moving too.

Tides for Calcasieu Pass, Lighthouse wharf starting with September 24, 2013. As high tide of 2.3ft occurred at 3.50am.... and low tide is a 0.6 at 12:58. I am asking because it seems like i always get myself confused with when the tides are going to be moving good. I know that big lake itself and places in the rock are going to have a delay from what is posted for calc pass... but is it that much? |
Add six hours to that.
|
Why do i need to add 6 hours? because of the delay in the water moving from the pass to the actual lake?

Don't even have to go to weirs....fishing has been on fire outgoing tide past 2 evenings from turners to prien. Shrimp bustin all over Prien
If u want shrimp just go cast net at the bayou d inde weir. Most of my money is spent on fishing, fishing tackle, & boats... The rest is wasted. |

^^^ all this means nothing!!! Use Live data and u will see the tide is way above normal and falling late http://www.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov...tml?stn=lc0201 Cameron Fishing Pier&data_type=Composite |
According to this tide didnt start falling till 6 at the jetties...should be pouring out of the marsh about now

Caught some reds and flounder behind the weirs in the marsh. Only caught one slot reds others were big nasty's. Guys fishing at the signs were hammering the reds. |
Me and Josh went this morning. Water at Spicers was almost to the top of the dock. About a 2' difference between lake and marsh. Water was pouring into marsh. Threw net for about 2 hours for 6 lbs maybe. Headed home about 1030 and tide was screaming out in lake. Still coming in at Grand.

well looking at this i would say that the tide data i posted is about right then... high tide did occur sometime between midnight and 6am so the 3:50am was in the right area. and therefore tide should continue falling till sometime around 1-3pm with the delay of the distance to the marsh i think i am starting to get it a bit more. |
When we left Spicers about 615, tide was rolling in. Got to supercut and tide was dead.

As mentioned before crabs were on the small side. Didn't start catching shrimp until about 11 and most throws only yielded 2-3 per throw, if any. They were 16-20s though. Threw from 9 to 530 to get a limit of shrimp. Redfish action was excellent, but couldn't catch one under 27 inches.

Weirs will close tomorrow at sunset!!
|
Damn they need to stay open for atleast a week... Get the east side of the lake some skrimps...

W, how do you know they will be closed? Hotline doesn't mention it.
|
Feds said it will close tomorrow...this comes from a good source
|
thanks man, hopefully with the upcoming rain it will be reopened and the castnetting and crabbing better than it was yesterday.
Is anyone catching them today? |
Let me tell u how stupid the managers are who run that circus act
They open up with a unnormal high tide ( 2ft-3ft) above normal , and push everything further in marsh due to marsh 3ft lower ! Leave open 4 days with out moving much water out A 3rd grader could do a better jon |

Gate at wiers
Can someone clear this up for me. Guides you guys should know. I was told that the boat through gate at Grand bayou wier was never closed during the summer. There was only some pipe pieces keeping boaters from entering but letting water flow in and out freely with the tide. Is this true?? if so than the water salinity problem is a bunch of bull.
Please respond  |
