Duck blind build
 

My son and I built this platform blind I. A little over 2 hours today. Gonna paint it tomorrow.

Total cost to build from Lowes was just under $200. I will be putting old fence boards on the walls. Price includes a gallon of dark moss exterior paint.

I would suggest the bench seat with a pivot back drop to cover yo faces and also a shell shelf. This is assuming you will not be shoiting 360 degrees on purpose.

Another tip for future blinds is to not put the vertical 2x4s at the end of the horizontals. The horizontals split when nailed at the end. We give them 12" to breathe. On of our platforms is working on 11 yrs and 2 hurricanes.

I am building a shell shelf tomorrow. I also have "L" brackets under the verticals for added support. Will be adding a large "L" bracket to lower left front wall for added support. Built it to be modular so I can take it apart and bring to marsh. Plan to build 3 braces to put it on in the marsh

We use 5 gal buckets for seats in our stick up blinds. Very easy to move around for cover and comfort. Also, we wrap ours in tar paper instead of making the sides solid but our blinds go under water almost every year. It they were to have solid sides, the current would destroy it. The current tears the tar paper off but leaves the blind standing. Looks nice!

Looks nice but I personally wouldn't be spending that much on a duck blind in the marsh. I'll be building a new one soon though...I hope I don't have to spend much if anything, prolly gonna bust up some pallets. Make sure you build some sort of backrest. One of the blinds I hunt out of doesn't have one and it makes those slow mornings uncomfortable.

The last one I built like this is still standing after 5 seasons. I used plywood for the floor and it rotted in one corner so this time I went with 3/4 inch x 6 inch treated deck boards. Put em close but once they dry out they will shrink and will leave about 1/4 inch gap- just enuf for water to drain but not wide enuf to losses shells or other items. I will be putting cedar fence panels on the front and back and that will serve as a backrest.

Anchoring with 2x4's? If so how many? What are the dimensions? Looks good.

Yes gonna put down 6 - 8' 2x4 and cross brace. Will simply place floor on top and secure w/ exterior dry wall screws. Then put up sides and finally build bench. Have natural cover in front and will attach fast grass to rear and brush with wax myrtle bushes and salt grass. Blind is going on top of a levee that was formed from digging out a mud boat trail.

whenever u brush the blind, be sure to get it nice and tight. when those ducks circle overhead and look in the blind, especially late season birds, if it don't look right they won't finish. i'm a big fan of laying a few peices of brush across the top between the hunters to break everything up.
we have had good luck mother-in -lawing a 2x4 on each corner then screwing it to the blind to keep it from moving.

I take a bundle of Roseau cane wide enuf to go from front to rear of blind and run a 1.5 inch piece of painted black PVC pipe thru the middle and put one b/w each hunter. I also keep a couple pieces of military netting to put over any empty holes if not 4 hunters in blind. I zip tie some Roseau to the camo netting to make it more natural

I would add a lip all the way around floor for when you drop stuff it does not roll off into water.

That's how I roll but I usually only build a two man blind, dig up natural grass a plant around the blind. By the second year, you have to know where it is or you can't find it. Pallets don't last that long but are easy and cheap to replace.

Use this for your base. Cut it down to fit the blind then you have a great background to start with. Dust it with some flat camo spray paint to knock the sheen off. Then you have something to stick natural brush in I used this on a blind this year and I just continue to add extra brush each trip, its getting better and better each time. One roll should be plenty for one blind. They also have it at Lowes and keep it stocked.

Looks cool. I think I am gonna use some fast grass on the back. May give this a try for the sides though.

I like using it because it holds salt grass really well

we got prettymuch the same setup in our 4 man blind. covering the holes makes the ducks finish alot better!!

Can u cut it to make it shorter or will it unravel?

Stays in tact. It has a wire netting its weaved in. I cut mine down to height and used the spare pieces+salt grass for covering open spots in the blind. I cut it down with a serrated knife and wire cutters but if you have a good knife you can cut the wire with that. Its been holding up very well this is the first season I've used it
