Nice catch! Cool kids!! What kind of bait were you using and did you have to deal with a lot of Gaftops?

Man,
I love these reports, they will remember these trips forever , Trust me! Good job Dad. |
VB yesterday p.m.
Launched at about 2 p.m. in a little rain. Tried Weeks Bay and caught several trout, but lost several also. Then tried the TP, Blue Point, Cove, Hammock and then back to WB. Almost no current at all in spite of the tide forecast for a big drop all afternoon. When we got back to the landing, the water was just as high as when we left. Guessing the wind held back the tidal drop.:work:

Nice catch man....good to see the youngings getting in on the action.
|
I was in Weeks Bay myself yesterday and it was some tough fishing yesterday. I think I threw everything I had in my tackle box of them and tried lots of spots. Really rough day on the water.
|
Nice catch!
We landed thirteen in the cove from 6:30-11. We just drifted all the way from Quintana to the camps. It was slooow but we got lunch |
I fished blue pt hammock and ortemond reef and one other undisclosed spot and caught 20 specks ( few shorts and lost 4-5 ) couple whites one nice red and a flounder. All on plastics chart flurry on a 1/4 oz. slow slow slow on the bottom.

Way to go, Man. We kept 9 nice specs at the TP yesterday morning through about 1 P.M. 3 guys fishing very hard. Fished VERY slowly on the bottom and a few under a cork. They only wanted glow plastic. Then went to Tee Butte right before dark and kept 8 more. Friend had never caught a gafftop, so we checked 4 large groups of birds outside the pass and he got his fill of the slimey bustards!
|
Fished Sunday am. Worked the Cove, 2 specks, then wanted to head south, but looked like a storm cell in the pass, so we stayed....tried Cote Blanche and then back to the Cove...managed 1 red. Live bait for the specks and root beer stingray for the red. No other bites.
|
Ortemond Reef???? New one on me. Where it be?

Okay, I've tried twice to find it. Got the GPS coordinates from La. Sportsman, but as I passed over the coordintates, I noticed no difference in the depth. Tried again yesterday cuz I read a post that it was marked by white PVC posts, but although I found some posts near the coordinates, once again, I noticed no difference in the depth readings.
