"ain't my rig"

:shaking: Have you ever been on a #boat when a rod and reel were lost over the side?

toolpush 11-05-2013 05:29 PM

Yep, cast and dropped a brand new rod and reel over the side:pissed:. Drug for it for almost 2 hrs while my wife fished(and caught). Finally gave up when she reeled in string, it was from my rig I dropped over the side. Had to apologize to her for all the profanity.:grinpimp:

My Dad has been having the same Penn rod and reel for 20+ years. He never passes up an opportunity to explain how much better made his reel was because it was so old. Every trip he would talk about how many fish that rod and reel have caught over the years. Honestly, that combo has outlasted many new Penn combos we have bought and worn out over the years.

While snapper fishing offshore last month my dad was fighting something pretty big with his prized fishing pole. Well just when Iit looked like he had the fish where he wanted it the fish made a run and my dad's drag was set too tight. The handle of his pole, which was made of wood, broke right below the reel and flew down into the deep blue. He quickly reacted and looked over the side of the boat but that thing was long gone!

I really felt bad for him. He laughed it off but I know he was bummed.

What is up with all these random threads?

Dad flipped one of mine out in Hopedale a few years ago. He cursed himself and, I replied, "Well, I guess that makes us even on the graphite rod I broke of yours as a kid!" It was a good laugh for me, really.

Lost one but recover it when my buddy was reeling his line in. I Left my rod on the side of the boat while getting a drink out of the ice chest. All of a sudden a Huge red yanked it out the boat, all I saw was a big red jumping out the water and it was gone.

It happens to the best of us sooner or latter, I try an always tie my reals/rods to the boat when fishing with my brother's kid, and the sunshine kid deal I do every year. I have had one taken out my hands, when I was trying to do two things at oonce on the boat. And I knowbetter but it happens it your on the water long eanuff

We've lost a few over the years. I've never lost one I was fishing, but guests on my boat have, and the children have dropped a few in while dock fishing.

Gulp Juice Is Slick

When using Gulp baits, be sure to wipe the liquid off your hands before you resume fishing. The stuff is very slick. I learned the hard way.

Something hit my bait at full speed and took my rod instantly out of my Gulp lubricated hand and into the lake. Fortunately I retrieved it with another rod. The fish was gone.

Down east rod holders are high end. We've lost many more rods from the dock than we have from the boat!

Bought my little one a backpacker fishing rod so he can fish off the dock with me on at a cabin we rented. He was good for all of 45 seconds, then he stood up and threw the damn thing in the water and turned back with the biggest smile ever. Funniest thing I've ever seen.

Had one similiar fishing with my dad and my two boys. Fishing for specks with artificial under cork when my youngest hooks his first fish on a "batman" pole. The poor little speck barely got the cork under water! So after all of the grunting and moaning to real this 8" speck in, it gets next to the boat and he goes" Gawwwww...look how big that fish is daddy and proceeded to throw his new "batman" rod & reel at the fish.

My dad an i were dying laughing as we watched the cork slowly move away. Once the bite finished, we proceeded to go grab the cork and recover batman and fish!

A neighbor was running down the boat lane at Toledo bend and he and his Dad passed another guy that was jigging and probing trying to find his rod & reel. They had ask the guy what happened and he said he cast and just let go. Well they continued down the lake and finally stopped and they started to fish. So the guys Dad was talking about how it was bad when you get old and don't have the grip and control you did when younger. Well my neighbors Dad got his rod & reel and the first cast threw it in the lake. He just sat there and his son says," Hey" and his Dad turned to his son and said don't say a damn thing.

Was fishing out of Freshwater City a couple of years ago when my friend hit his arm on the bimini support while casting. His brand new first time used rig flew into the water about 8 ft deep. He screamed a cuss word and without missing a beat dove in head first. He surfaced about 10 seconds later with rod n reel in hand. He amazingly still had his sunglasses on.

He did however waste a full beer

What kind of beer? Certain brands are excusable! ;)

We were bass fishing in stephensville. I seen a water moccasin swimming by the boat. Tried smacking with an ugly stick. Me and the rig end up going over right on top the snake. I was out of the water so quick my wallet didn't even get wet. I left my buddy's ugly stick and ambassador behind in the process though.

expensive fish

we were on some specks biting in a frenzy, slingin em in the boat left and right. had fish slime on my hands, couldnt stop to wipe, casted bam-another, set the hook-oops there goes the pole, with seconds to react i dove in with arms wide open and got it, swam to the boat with $80 rod n reel. kept fishin and catchin, heard a low beeping sound- my $200 phone ruined!

Lost one last wk in Big Lake in West Cove. We were on the fish, set the rod down to help one of the others on the boat, fish hit and pulled the rod & reel out of the holder. We watched it slowly start moving off and then picking up speed. We chased it with the troll motor casting with jigheads but were never able to hook onto it. Actually heard some cuss words I wasn't even familiar with! I actually think he was talking in tongues!

once so far for me... I was sacalait fishing Half Moon in Port Barre (if anyone knows this place you know how small of an area it is and the number of people always there) when some bass started hitting in front of me. Well I was fishing on an ice chest that I forgot had wheels on the back of it, and when I leaned back to grab my bass rod, I did a complete back flip off of it into probably 50 degree water! Got out the water so fast that the water didn't even have a chance to seep through my outer layers of clothes. Stripped my jacket and wind pants off, and I was dry underneath, only my head, hands, and feet were wet. Later on I realized I must have knocked my bass rod overboard, so I went back through that area with a rattletrap and ended up catching it on my first throw!

Everyone around the bridge got a good laugh, even had one guy tell me that its $3 to launch but another $5 to swim haha
