Opinions on moving to the Lafayette area ?
Me and my wife have been considering moving out of the hole we are in and now we are at the point where we are ready to do it. We currently live in hammond and I decided after growing up here it's going down hill fast plus it's far from a lot of work in my industry...we love the Lafayette area but that's only from visiting. So I'm looking for opinions on that area. I don't think we want to move into Lafayette but deff within 20 miles or so of it. So what's a good area near there to dig in and burry roots at? Any opinions/info appreciated. Btw if anybody knows of any 3 bedroom houses for rent or any jobs in the inspection field I'm your guy. I'm NDT certified across the board I can x ray and i have experience in welding and piping inspection.

You want to live in a subdivision or in the country?
|
If your looking for the sub division life and can afford it youngsville is pretty hard to beat. My personal preference when we get ready to move is the Maurice area. Preferably south. Meaux fishing lives in a really good area nearby too. Good schools, good people, and good proximity. Your 10 minutes from lafayette, and 20 from vbay.

Look at Youngsville or Carencro
|
I'm building both in youngsville and broussard and both are excellent for schools. most lots in the subdivisions are small so if you have alot of toys that may be a problem. if u want to live in the country the mire area which i live in is northwest of lafayette, the land is inexpensive and people are excellent. pm and i might be able to find a lot or property for you.

Always jobs in the inspection field around here. One of the better ones to work for is Oceaneering and Pro NDT. Lots of offshore work, mostly 24hr call.
|
Ya I've never done ndt offshore I dunno how I'd like the 24 hour call deal. But maybe I'd love it? How long do you typically go out for ?

I have my home for sale now. 3 bedroom 2 bath gunite pool in Youngsville Field Crest Subdivision. If you're interested PM me |
I live in Broussard and really like it. I am 5 min from several meat shops, restraunts, and grocery stores. Pretty much anything I need right there and I can be at the mall in Lafayette or any other store within 20 minutes. The only downfall is I live in a subdivision with small lots. And don't worry about meeting people, everyone is pretty friendly
|
If it were me I would move to the SW side of Lafayette....Maurice, Meaux, Judice, Indian Bayou. Close enough to Lafayette if you need something, but you don't have to fight traffic on a daily basis to go to the store to pick up a few groceries. Lafayette is expanding SE faster than SW, so the Youngsville/Broussard area is only gonna get more congested over the next few years

Love Broussard! I ride my bike to sonic and everywhere else, the kids love it. It's a small small town 30 mins from the bay, 30 mins from the basin |

I live in Scott. Adjacent to Lafayette, near the interstate, great people and has everything you need in town. If you need to go into Lafayette, 5 minutes and you're there. With the backroads, you can get to the bay in no time and Henderson even sooner. Pm me if you have questions.

I know a few people that live just north of Kaplan. Pretty country there and good people for the most part. And not far from anything.

Come on down to Judice Hustler. We're always looking for good people. Good luck finding cheap land. About 6 people own most of it, and they sure ain't giving it away! They have 20 something acres behind my house for sale, and they're only asking $570,000.

Live in Youngsville and really like it, close to everything as the crow flies but not as the car drives - traffic is purty bad:rotfl: There is always always something going on in the area and its mainly free, and nearby they have a festival for everything you can think of - rice, crawfish, boudin, cracklin, frogs, rabbits:rotfl: A couple threads out there on where to go watching for women as well (no shortage of them):grinpimp:
Question to everyone else though - we live in Youngsville and are sending our child to private because we are hearing the schools are not that great, can someone fill me in on this? Green T Lyndon? |
Milton elementary us supposed to be the best in the parish. Try getting them in there. Its not far from you at all.
I webt privare too. Tired of the B.S. in public |

I have one in Kindergarten and one in 3rd grade (been there since Kindergarten). Their homework is constant and challenging, and the interaction from the teachers is on point - they TEACh, and both my children learn. It's very practical and hands on, not the memorization game that the private schools I attended played (I think the curriculum was). I love where I live in Broussard, but don't like neighbors and not being able to shoot my guns in my underwear. We have been talking about moving to the country on some acreage for a few years now, and the only thing keeping us here is the education our kids are getting. We text back and forth with the teachers, it's personal. The 5 year old didn't go to pre K, and is reading and righting already and he's halfway through the year. The homework he brings home forces him to think and put his hands on things, then bring them to school to put it into practice. I.e Draw a balance, and on one side draw something that you like to play with, then on the other side of the balance draw the number of pennies that you think weigh the same as the object you chose. Bring the object to school tomorrow and we will compare it with the amount of pennies you chose. That was one item on his homework last night. Or, if you have a cone standing up, draw the shape of the base... In kindergarten. Now, I know this curriculum is across the board, but the interaction with the teachers is what strikes me. Don't be scared of the public schools there, your tax dollars are actually working in this area. |
Opinions on moving to the Lafayette area ?

One thing I know is that there is less Kim Karsashian, pop wanna be, fake face wanting, enhanced body envy at the public schools. The elitest, snobby daughters and sons frequent Laffy and surrounding private schools. Not that it doesn't exist, but it's wayyyyyy less prevalent. I have been around those parents and their little Hellian sons and daughters, and they are a cancer and downright mean - they were at my school, and every other private school I had friends at, and are the children of most people I meet that I wouldn't hang out with unless forced to... Just my view and opinion, and I'm not saying all kids that go to private schools are that way. They aren't, by far, but the culture by demographic is inherently thicker at a private school... Where does a snob with money send their kid to school when they won't dare let them be educated in the same room as the lower income kids? You got it. |

Exactly!! That's why private is the only option for me. |
I'm in a different area tho. Woodvale/Allemon/Lafayette
