Where are the Ducks?
 

We went to our marsh in Johnson Bayou Friday and saw thousands of ducks. Saturday morning we only shot 5. I have talked with others who say they saw thousands of ducks all last week but struggled on Saturday. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you think the rain storm we had Friday night moved the ducks out? Do you think they went south to Mexico or north to the once dry fields? I am at a loss for what happened!

They holding tight somewhere. Yesterday the duck hunters around us smashed em today it sound like a ghost town. The geese were like night and day. They didn't wanna work worth a jack and shut down around 9:30

Talked to a buddy in GC he said it was unreal. More ducks than Mosquitos in July. They had 24 both days

Didn't see shat in Kaplan area

where you huntin at?? They smashed em between dennis rd and gladu yesterday off of shams rd too

We shot limits in Pecan Island Saturday morning. Mostly Teal and Grey ducks.

Also, my buddy is Gueydan smashed then near white lake the last two days.

Today....South of Kaplan we had 3. My father in law hunts with a bud of his in pecan island
This past weekend they hunted 4 blinds (2 in each).....8 total per day...sat 29 & today 23. Usually a day like today (after a front with big north wind)and especially it being opening of split they always hammer them.

Is that Dennis Rd. off of Hwy. 35 just north of Kaplan?

We were holding a bunch of birds, now, we have some but not near what we had.
Heading to Klondike tomorrow for specks.

Got 5 out of 3 blinds yesterday & 10 today in GC 2 miles west of church south of road?????:confused:

Yesterday and today? Yesterday was a war zone today nearly a ghost town

Yea I experienced the same thing. Yesterday we had ducks all over us today it was slow. Still managed to kill 16 though

Those ducks must be a ways down Dennis Rd. My wife was raised on the little farm on the corner of Dennis Rd. and Hwy. 378 (her parents, Dennis and Helen Broussard still live there). I happened to marry the only girl from Kaplan who's family don't have ducks on their property. At least I had some on my lease south of Vinton...not many but some.

there's a coulee that crosses Dennis all the birds were concentrated on the west and north side of it. I'm not familiar with 387 only intersections atleast that I know of is crossinade shams and hwy 35

They where stacked up at our place in little chenier this weekend. Had 18 greys and wedigon by 7:30.

Cajun duck man. I am calling you out on marrying the only girl from kaplan whos dad dont have ducks. My wifes from there also and we put a blind on paw in laws land in cow island. So for one blue wing. Sooo you are not along. Lol

Not may ducks on the Blue Flats, Specklebelly's are around but must be patient, 5 specks Sat., 7 specks Sunday. 1 shy of limit both days.

Well there wasn't crap just north of Sweet lake this morning. Ducks anyways. Good bit of geese around, but nothing crazy.

Managed 18 sat and 18 sunday with one speck sunday in Holly Beach. But very few birds, other blinds on the lease were scratching and having 5 or so. Wasn't there friday but I heard the birds were pretty thick at the time. They went somewhere that's fasho.

We had a 4 man limit Saturday near Lacassine Bayou with pintails, mallards, and teal, even with no wind. Much slower yesterday with 8 even though we had 4 mallards and a pintail. This morning, cold but no wind. Killed 8 again but 6 teal and 2 pintail. Didn't see near the amount of birds we saw this wknd. Birds are hard to pattern, for sure.

i hunt the marsh across the hwy south directly from the church and we had 4 for 4 people sataurday morning. Saw quite a few birds but them suckers would not listen to nothing, but they ate out all my grass in my pond.

Sorry about the mix up concerning Hwy numbers...their farm is on the north
corner of Dennis Rd. and Hwy 35.

LOL...One time during a freeze during the 90's I did see mallards out there; but my FIL has told me many stories of the many ducks that were killed out there when he was a child in the 30's and 40's.

We have the big White House right across the street from them.

They've eaten about 1/2 the grass out of my ponds. They must have been in there thick during the split. Sure did make for fun hunting during the 2nd opener!
