Make sure you do not wrap those rods to tight or the rod will snap in half the first time you get a good fish on... I learned this the hard way the first week of working in a rod and reel shop and was NOT told about this by my uncle. Needless to say the first set of rods came back because of this :-)

I think black would be too muted, maybe a bright blue or red would be a better choice to define the break between silver and green

Considering the acrylic seats and grips some. I am concerned about the grips getting slimy when trout fishing though,

I thought the same thing. My dad poured and cut the acrylic and its his rod so we will find out asap.

Hard to get the cuts to line up perfectly but I think I figured it out now.

Have to make the cut to remove the same width as the inlay.

Bingo. I figured that out after making the same mistake 3 times.

Lance is probably tired of me calling him. Great guy.

You can figure it out pretty easy from videos or books but if you spent a day with a rodbuilder (ducktrickster or jchief) it would really shorten the learning curve. :)

I'm lucky to have three rodbuilding vendors within 20 minutes of my home. To get started it really helps to be able to visit a vendor and see what you need vs. what you think you need.

Lance at Swampland in Houma is a great guy and would be able to get you going.

I live a ways away from there but thanx for the advise ima check and see if I can find someone local hopefully they know what they doin lol jk

After spending time with lance and at FTU in Houston, I couldn't see myself ordering all the components online - that's too much of a guessing game before knowing exactly where the components will line up on the blank, and which blank you are using along with OD dims at those points along the blank.

A fit up on site by an experienced builder is priceless for a beginner...

Have you put any together lately?

Just picked up materials for 2 more, I've only done the one to date.

Haven't hit Houma in a bit, but have been in Houston so I got everything at FTU. Got some cork split grips with darker cork trim on them, can't wait to get that one together.

Now that's a good looking grip.

Let me know. I like making the grips better than rod assembly. Pobably because i suck at matching thread to the grips.
