We also had the opportunity tovisitthe poorest of the poor areas of Cape Town ...man what an eye opener! Kori n I were able to donate enough money to send every studen in the school for an additional month! I cannot even begin to explain the gratitude the children expressed !
These people live in corrugated tin shacks with shipping pallets as the roof and tar paper! No running water , electric is pirated off street lights .

fishinpox 01-17-2014 12:07 PM

Off to hunt for the next two weeks! Pics to come .....

mriguy 01-17-2014 12:09 PM

Great pics.

Matt G 01-17-2014 12:11 PM

Beautiful scenery! That's very generous of you and your wife to give afford those kids an opportunity they otherwise wouldn't have. Good luck with the hunt and stay safe!!

And my wifeshot her first animal ever!! A massive red lechwe ! Pics to come.

I've really struggled to get a gemsbok and zebra , I've prolly walk n stalked a crew of gemsbok for miles over the past 2 days , today I got within 39 yards but the close ones weren't throphy size then the spooked. And the only zebra I've gotten close enough to are mountain zebra which are illegal to import into the USA . Moving camps tomorrow morning in hopes to get a zebra then come back to this area to seal the deal with my gemsbok

Yeah you can get the taxidermy work done over here in africa or the skulls/capes sent back to USA once they have been salted/dipped ect. I'm having all my animal done over here at a place that is top notch. Lots of the taxidermists over here but this place is a huge outfit tat ate a more artistic approach.

Let me know if you want some contact info , next year the PH is coming to America and staying with us . We will have a party where he can show you what kind of hunting they do and costs/ ect. It's not that bad if you pick a few and stick to it. The problem is its hard to stick to the list , so every animal you shoot you can figure another 1000-3000 for taxidermy/shipping as well.

I've killed everything with a 270wsm 130 gr solid copper bullet . If you look at that kudu there is a small hole behind its shoulder that where the bullet was almost through and through on the backside, I cut it out n recovered it. I shot clean through the bontebok @ 350-370 yards . The only thing I won't use it for is a Cape buffalo if I decide to kill one . My wife was shooting a .243 n took that animal @ 100-120 yards

fishinpox 01-21-2014 05:21 PM

Still need to kill a Gemsbok and a Zebra . Might try for a white springbok and a black springbok since I've killed a Common Springbok that way ill have all 3 .

jchief 01-21-2014 06:37 PM

Awesome dude.

Why the silencer?

speck-chaser 01-21-2014 10:40 PM

It helps with recoil as well but mainly not to spook anything else that may be near by

swamp snorkler 01-22-2014 07:37 AM

No baboon yet?

Is every animal you killed going to be hanging on the wall at the new house? You have a kill room set up?

swampman46 01-22-2014 12:34 PM

Maybe it's just me, but killing a zebra is like killing a horse. Not sure about that one. Maybe I'm just crazy like that.

If it is going to be eaten then what's wrong with it? I've had horses my whole life and I would try horse meat without hesitation if I had the opportunity. But like you say, "Maybe I'm just crazy like that." :D

fishinpox 01-22-2014 01:07 PM

Finally got my zebra !! Ill post up pics if I can get them uploaded . My wife also shot a beautiful mountain reedbuck @ 250 yards . I will at least try the zebra meat but it will get eaten

Well...you may have missed my point. Zebra/horse by modern civilization standards is considered a domestic animal. When I think of African safaris and hunting in Africa...I think of water buffalo, rhinos, lions, the "big 5" type species. But Zebra? lol
