2003 24 ft. Sea pro or 2003 22 ft. Kenner vision???

Need help on this decision. Both boats are same price. Kenner is more beat up, scratches and stress cracks on interior and exterior. Kenner has 225 optimax and Seapro has 200 Yamaha. Sea pro has brand new trailer and kenner has beat up rusty trailer. Kenner has newer motor (2009 )

biggun 03-19-2014 07:21 PM

Neither.......Both very subpar boats...

Look for a Sea Chaser, if U want a good starter boat..

Now Gunner, while I usually agree with you this is one I believe your absolutely wrong on. Hands down the Kenner is the best hull ever built for a bay boat. BP, post some pics of each boat but remember that Time is your Fran when purchasing a used boat. Price would also be good.

Totally disagree. Sea chaser is well below these two brands.

PUREBAY2200 03-19-2014 09:42 PM

Totally agree with ray and bayouchub

Sea chaser is a low low end boat.
Just a fact.

Kenner is the godfather of bay boats.
Those hulls from the 90's are still in good shape if they were taken care of.
The sea pro is also a good hull, fit and finish not fancy but rides well and good layout.

I would def consider these 2 over a sea chaser.

Don't worry about trailer condition, just deduct it from the asking price by 2k -1500$ and go buy a nice new one for 3-4k. That's an option.

ThePinkBanana 03-19-2014 09:43 PM

Sea chaser is crap. Bout as nice as bay stealth

Lol
That's funny.
Thanks I needed a laugh:*****::help:

PUREBAY2200 03-19-2014 09:44 PM

Stress cracks aren't a good sign.
Get some pics up for us "experts" to look at.
Lol
But really pics will help

ThePinkBanana 03-19-2014 09:52 PM

Yeah, the stress cracks are in the corners of the interior. Also, the motor gets this alarm when it's running wide open. Guy says its little rocks clogged in some hose from starting motor up on lauberge beach.. That also kind of scares me. But kenner motor is 2009 225 HP optimax with 50 hours.

jchief 03-20-2014 01:07 AM

bring it in and get it looked at. It can be hooked to computer to give any codes. If it is "just rocks" get current owner to fix it

alphaman 03-20-2014 01:12 AM

Id say keep looking.

Nah. Depending on the condition of the Kenner and price I'd give it a real close look. My brother in law has one and they are well built boats. If you can buy it right it would be worthwhile to put some money in to fix it up while you have a boat to fish with. But again it depends on the buy price and the condition of the boat. If your not sure bring it to a fiberglass shop and a mechanic to have a look over it. If the seller is serious he shold not have a problem with this. If he does walk away and look for another boat.

BassYakR 03-20-2014 06:18 AM

Ive never rode in a Kenner but have always heard they are a very solid boat and will last a lifetime if good care is taken. I have rode in a sea pro and I will tell you that they handle rough water very well. That being said I do not like the look of a Sea Pro very much.

Clampy 03-20-2014 06:33 AM

The old 23' kenners are the ones that gave them their reputation.
I don't know squat about the vision line.

Hands down the vision! I have a 2001 and absolutely love it. great ride.

Edit: Just re-read the first statement and like the others say, get it looked at first. And trailers are pretty cheap.

"W" 03-20-2014 07:54 AM

If you have to pick out of just these two, get Kenner

But there are way better bay boats out there than these two boats

Pretty sure an 03 was still made by the Kenner family, I thought tracker took over in 04/05

Samarai 03-20-2014 02:14 PM

why the hate with baystealth. I would pick the kenner and I would rate them at the same level as a baystealth. BTW, I have a baystealth and its a fine all around bay boat which the kenner is .

Bet he was thinking Mako??????????????

bayouchub 03-20-2014 02:34 PM

No, I was just making a general statement about the brand. Not about the particular boat the op asked about. Definitely not thinking mako.

"W" 03-20-2014 02:42 PM

Bill Kenner makes Black Jack.....He does not make the new Kenners which are not any where near top of the line anymore

Design and build are different. He designed the frontier, does that make it better than the blackjack?

What's your point?

Not yet, $5,000-$10,000 mo dollas and he may be a Ribbon dog.;)
BK's hull design is still the best out there IMO, copied by countless boat builders. BJ just refined the classic he invented.

Kenner boats went down in quality when Mr. Morris(basspro) bought them out many years ago I think it was in 2003. My dad had an original Kenner with wood in it lasted about 7 or 8 years before floors and transoms became soft, he later used more composite through the later years. I do understand that Bill and his brother the Bayhawk brand started the bay boat type hulls and layouts for inshore fisherman, but his boats have been over praised through the years in my opinion.

The new blazer bay 24' seems like the exact copy of we fished 5 of of bill lakes It was a fishing machine. Very spacious. Road awesome in the gulf. Lacks on storage man those boats are awesome.
Tritons , black jack and blue waves seem great too. Hell my little frontier ain't terrible.

Sorry Guys... I believe the "Bay Runner" By Carolina Skiff is a nice starter boat..

The Older Kenner hulls rolled edge were GOOD... 21' vision; they had tons of hull cracking problems..

I've ridden in 23' Bay Runner.. It's a "nice" starter boat.. With that said.. It's hard to find a Vision in good condition..

I just indicated My opinion.. I know a 24' Yellowfin can't follow me 35 miles offshore.. in 3-4 seas in My 24' Triton LTS...

Haters are going to Hate I Guess. LOL...

Thks

Biggun

bayouchub 03-20-2014 07:35 PM

You wont go 35 miles in your triton lts in legit 3-4' seas. I used to own one. Also the yellowfin can go ANYWHERE the triton can. You dont ever wanna have to go anywhere in a BAY boat in real 3-4' seas.
