Etec 250 vs Etec 225 H.O.
Guys need help before I pull the trigger on this. I'm not really sure what the H.O. series is all about, but I need to choose between a 250 or the 225 H.O. I will be repowering my Bluewave 2200 Purebay here in the very near future. Just wonder what you you guys that may know what may be the better route to go!

Well since neither one of those is an option. I have the Etec 175 on right now and it has been the best performing motor I have ever had on a boat. I really dont want this to become a Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge type of debate. Just if anyone has run these motors or know anything about them, I would like some input. I was originally going to put the 250 SHO on before I bought the boat, but after running the Etec that came on it, I really have gotten to like it. |
I bet you dont get any e-tec love from anyone I know on this site

You have a nice looking boat! For what it's worth, I would chose the H.O. over the 250. Etec performance report list a purebay 2200 w/ 225 etec running 63.7mph; MPG was about 4mph at crusing speed.

Thats the regular 225 etec

looks like you can only get a 25" shaft 225 HO in a blue color, dont know if that matters to you or not

Get the ETEC 250 HO, is a BEAST!!!!

If I can find a 250 HO, I may go that route. I was just unsure if I could mount up a 250 HO since my boat is rated for 250 hp max. |
Talk to Eric at G&F in Raceland, he might have it in stock.

just my 2 cents but why would you not go with a Suzuki or 4 stroke unless you don't have a close dealer? The two stroke ETEC (any 2 stroke) will reduce resale if that is important to you. The Zuke has a 6 year warranty, Etec is 5, and you can now get them in white. I have the 24 BW purebay with the 300 Zuke on it. Bought it new 2008 and it has never been to the shop for anything. Had twin 2005 Zuke 250's on my offshore boat and sold it last July. Bought them new as well and they too never went to the shop.

Changing a little oil and a filter once or twice a year is cheaper than buying two-stroke oil. Hole shot on my 4-stroke is great , just as good or better than any two stroke I have owned. The quietness of the motor alone is almost worth it and the weight is not that much difference.

Etecs are pretty quiet (for a 2 stroke), they have a 6 year warranty (not 5) and the Hole-Shot is awesome.

If I was going to spend 15-18K on a new outboard for a bay boat, it would be a 250 Vmax SHO, rather than a 2 stroke! And this is coming from a guy who has always run 2 Stroke motors including a coupe E-Techs! Not knocking them, but the comparisons in weight to power on the SHO and E-tech are not far enough for me to go back 2 banger!
The only 2 stroke I would buy today is a Merc pro XS or opti! The Zukes a real good motors also but have seen their share of head problems in years past, and they definitely don't have much curb appeal! They are extremely quiet, efficient, and powerful though! If your heart pressed on an Etech though, go get it! It will get the job done just like all of the rest! You may get a lemon, you may not, and that speaks for every damn motor brand sold in the US! |
