around Lake Barataria

Last two days fishing with my son-n-law and catching some nice trout and reds.

Nothing better than some freshly caught trout frying up :-)

I will load pics of our catch after we eat :-)

meaux fishing 04-22-2014 06:47 PM

thanks for the report... how far south were you fishing?

Visco 04-23-2014 09:06 AM

Lake Laurier and Wilkinson Bayou. Had to find the clear water. Once I found the it, it was on.

Cool thanks I'm heading down there on Friday for the weekend

SuperDave 04-23-2014 08:22 PM

Thanks for the report! I rode all around trying to find clean water last week but I never found any. It must be starting to clean up a little. I'll be in lafitte Sunday but possibly Saturday too.

Visco 04-23-2014 08:45 PM

I am heading out again tomorrow with the family. Our target will be redfish, my daughter and wife love the fight they give.

The pictures I promised did not come out at all :pissed: sorry hopefully will get some good ones tomorrow. Going to start in Lake Laurier.

SuperDave 04-24-2014 07:24 PM

Any news??

Just got my power pole motor/pump back together and my new remote was just dropped off by FedEx. Gettin ready to hit the water!

It was a very slow day. Caught a few reds and one drum. The tides were just not working with us today.

We stayed in Lake Laurier, and I new I should have moved but could not get myself to move from where I have been catching some good fish.

Will be starting out Saturday around the islands of Barataria near the Wilkinson Canal mouth or heading to Port Sulpher as I have been getting some good reports.

Anyone else heading out then?

meaux fishing 04-24-2014 09:20 PM

I'll be somewhere in the area... Don't think my boat will be fixed so we are gonna cram 4 big guys into a small boat lol

We're staying in fourchon. Not sure which side of the road we are gonna fish yet

SuperDave 04-25-2014 08:25 AM

Looks like the tide prediction at manilla is terrible for tomorrow...

I want to make it down there soon. My uncles are always telling me that the Grand Isle and surounding area's produce some great fishing. I have always either fished Delacroix or Lake Barateria.

I guess it is time for me to venture out to other areas.

Good luck as I see winds are also suppose to be picking up starting tomorrow about 1200 and steadily increasing through Sunday.

Gnats!!! They were everywhere this morning!! Took home 3 reds and 2 trout. I did manage to catch a 30" red and a 29.5" red. Every red I caught today was huge.

I was on the east side. Bay round and Laurier.

Visco 04-27-2014 01:38 PM

You did better than me... I caught two small trout between 0600 and 1230. THEN... 1230 hit and the reds started biting. Caught three within 30 minutes and 20 of those minutes were fighting the two largest ones.

Oh yea caught my first gaff top on a popping cork.

meaux fishing 04-27-2014 01:56 PM

We fished south Barataria sat morning till the wind started picking up around 11. Managed 15 keeper trout with about a 3-1 keeper ratio on a variety of plastics. Fished the side of Highway 1 this morning for a couple hours with no luck at all.

Visco 04-27-2014 02:19 PM

Nice

Here is the one red that I kept from yesterday.

That's what I like to hear. I'll be in grand isle for the memorial day weekend, so I'm hoping some trout will make an appearance on the boat..

Visco 05-01-2014 05:59 PM

Heading down to Port Sulphur on Saturday, anyone else gonna be in da area?

SuperDave 05-01-2014 07:55 PM

Going back to Lafitte Saturday. This wind hasn't helped anything. I had plans on looking for trout but if the water is dirty I may just be SOL.

meaux fishing 05-01-2014 08:14 PM

going back to GI tomorrow, staying till sunday

latravcha 05-01-2014 08:48 PM

I just saw you post. If I would have noticed it earlier you could have jumped in with us. BTY the fishing sucked.
PM me your number and we will make a trip this summer.

Yep your rod and reel has been sitting in my rod rack since last June. I should be in Batton Rouge this week. PM me your number and I will meet up with you to drop it off.

meaux fishing 05-05-2014 09:45 AM

Sat morning fished fourchon, caught 1 trout and some giant spanish macks. I ended up catching 5 keeper trout and another 5-10 throwbacks on sat afternoon in barataria

latravcha 05-05-2014 09:49 AM

Yep they were hard to come by this weekend. I met up with some guys that were down there on a bachelor party and had a guided trip planned. The guide they booked call them they day before and told them that he thought they should cancel the trip but if they really wanted to go he could bring them on a $600 boat ride.

Everything is just a little late, water is still a little cool. I'll be back down there at the end of the month..It should be busted wide open by then

latravcha 05-05-2014 10:16 AM

Yep the same reason that inside shrimp season is not going to open until the end of the month.
It should be on for Swollfest this year.

yep.. I cant wait I'll be down there for 12 days straight

Visco 05-05-2014 08:36 PM

Well, it was a good weekend. We kept 14 trout tagged 9 trout and 1 redfish. After we ran out of tags we must have caught and released 8 more trout and one 36.5" redfish.

This was the only thing I could get the trout to hit all weekend long. Had a buddy of mine with me and until he put a gulp shiny penny on I had 5 trout to his none. Walmart has them on clearance right now, FYI

I own a 20` CC Tidewater.

I love the hospitality around Port Sulphur, everyone slows down when they approach a boat fishing. This is something you do not see a lot of in other areas. At first I thought everyone had been looking to see what we were doing, then i thought at one point I was doing something wrong, but it hit me, this is what you should do as it is respect for other fisherman (my grandpa taught me that a long time ago).

Visco 05-12-2014 05:50 PM

Well... who is going be out there this weekend? I am jonesing, have not been on the water in four days.

latravcha 05-12-2014 07:23 PM

I'm staying north this weekend. I have to run to the island to look at a camp. Plan on stopping at catfish lake on the way.
