What would you do?

If you cought the neighbors kids hitting baseballs at your car.
I asked um to stop and went back inside.
They did it again.
I asked um to get their parents.
I was yelled at and berated.then told how bad my moms yard looked with my boat and cargo trailer. And other coverd trailor with kiln in it.
They guy had a baseball bat so I called the cops.

What would you have done.

bmac 04-30-2014 06:38 PM

Call the cops and move all of my junk out of my mom's yard. Probably cut her grass too.

keakar 04-30-2014 06:40 PM

that's all you can do, call the cops and file a report so if your windows come up broken or find dents in the car you have documentation of what they were doing.

I would also install a nanny cam that can cover the car and the kids hitting balls at it in case it ever needs to go to court for you to collect damages for the repairs.

azzholes like them will not do anything and just laugh as their kids destroy your stuff but get the cops involved and that "usually" puts an end to it.

sadly when you have bad neighbors like that, putting up a fence is your only "real" solution so you don't have to worry all the time what they will do next.

MathGeek 04-30-2014 06:42 PM

Calling the police is certainly a reasonable and prudent response.

These situations have many nuances and the best possible response also depends on things a long term resident at the scene is aware of, but internet armchair quarterbacks are ignorant of.

With younger children and first occasions, I'd be more inclined to work with parents for a longer period before involving law enforcement.

The older the children and the longer I've already endured their criminal mischief (past events), the less time I'm likely to spend at the parental level.

If they appear capable of harming me, and presented body language, verbal abuse, and were closing distance so that a reasonable man would fear great bodily harm ...

I would take timely steps to prevent that.

MG pretty much nailed it. Settle it amung adults. If that doesnt work then involve the police. If all fails be prepared to defend yourself if a threat confronts your safety.

Only thing I own is the boat. Mom owns car trailor and kiln.
We're she Gunna put it?

Ratdog 04-30-2014 07:55 PM

Might add I spoke with kids last time they complied. But it seems the other neighbors said something about the windows on their house. Also a nother neighbor had a few ugly things to say to my mom about her car and how her house looked. I believe we're this guy got his poor attitude.
I am threw changeling my ways due to people who are not from here. My family has been in this house for 80 years they only 10. What planet do people come from that treat neighbors like this.

Might add we live 3 blocks from green lawn parc. Baseball diamonds and all were I hit balls.

I know it's sad but boy now I know we're da kids got their lack of respect for grownups and other peoples property.

We are still in US right. Can still park a car on the street?

Yep grass gets cut.
We just had two 80 year old magnolias cut down and stumps ground. Yard is recovering from sun bleach due to no shade. I'm working on compost tea to boost microbes and build turf.

Or am I expected to crap fresh growing grass for your visual pleasure good and bmac .

If so u got a long wait.

If you know the house and who lives here then you can expect a good bit of changes.
Namely house paint as trees coverd house and it needs it land scape as trees kept everything from growing .

Just not overnight fools.

I did get the gas lamp working after 20 years of neglect. I did that for mom and she cried when she saw. Memories from child hood.

Good don't be a moron.

Doubtful

Based on the information you gave, his response was the best so far. We have no idea where you live, or what the conditions are other than what you tell us.

Should they hit balls at anyone's property? No

Should they tell someone to clean up the mess? Maybe, depends on the mess. Pics would help

Gona have to butt heads with you on this one Gooh. If it aint his neighbors property its none of their business what the yard looks like. Short of an agreement with a HOA they just need to suck it up and deal with it. If not they can move.

I don't have an HOA, and when it comes to my neighbors laziness having an impact on the resale value (money in my pocket), then you better believe you will hear my mouth about it. It is my business when your laziness drives down the price of my home by $15k.

Not saying that's the case here, but based on what we know it very well could be.

There's the flip side of the coin

I understand and im not trying to start anything between us. I have a neighbor that I wish would do alot better with his property. Even with that it is his property and not mine. Its his to do what he wants. Not my place to tell him what to do with his land unless I want to be on the wrong end of a gun. Same thing would happen to him If he came to my house and told me to mow my grass.

Totally understand, but how bout I use a gun to get my $15k lost after selling because you didn't cut your grass.

The post said "what would you do". People answered. Others got offended of answers that didn't meet what they were looking for.

Typical sensitivity. People come here for opinions that support theirs, and cry when they get one that doesn't. Then moan in the next breath about how America isn't America anymore.

He clearly stated "the guy had a bat". Well, call the cops unless you are ready to crack skulls and go to jail. The damaged your property with baseballs, call the cops or fight it out. Obviously their parents are idiots, otherwise they wouldn't be heckling and smacking balls at the car.

Were they standing close to the car and hitting baseballs at it on purpose at 15 yrs old??????

Were they playing street ball and a grounder hit the rim?????

Clearly not enough information, yet I'm the moron.

I've owned a couple of properties and my family has owned many more.

Neighbors never really liked our propensity for shooting (safe and legal), raising livestock (legal), hunting (legal), trapping (legal) or selling timber (legal). I've never encountered resistance to shooting on my properties, but various neighbors tried to prevent us from selling the timber, raising the livestock, trapping, and hunting through various means.

A close family member encountered considerable resistance to his shooting on his property from a neighbor who happened to be law enforcement.

All the issues were eventually worked through with the property owners' rights fully in tact, and the busy body neighbors licking their wounded egos.

If you want to dictate how other properties in the neighborhood are used, you should buy them. If you cannot afford to buy them, you should make polite requests and realize that your neighbors have full legal rights to politely decline your requests.

The home we're in now has all the explicit requirements (HOA style) for mowing the grass, not parking on the lawn, etc. We knew the deal when we moved it, and carefully reviewed the written terms to be sure we could agree. We hope to find a home where we can exercise more liberties soon enough.

Goooh 04-30-2014 09:19 PM

How did Mr Ratdog present himself? Did he ramble incoherently like 50% of his posts, or did he speak softly so they could understand him like the other 50% of his posts??

How can someone be attacked for a reasonable and humorous opinion of how to handle a situation that's could be 100% lopsided?

Carry on.

And MG, feel free to stop by and pop a random on me anytime you want. I'll PM you all my information - but, what's it your business what I do on my property anyway, right?

Not my business.

But the US Constitution delegated to the states the power to make it their business. And the State of Louisiana (through due legislative process) has decided that you cannot do some things on your own property.

You cannot be in possession of child pornography. You cannot have sex with children. You cannot have sex with animals. And you may not possess or consume marijuana.

Now, I once directed the Forensic Science program at a state university, so I know all the procedures for administering drug tests. I might even still have all the stuff on hand. But, I'll pass on your offer of a random drug test. I'll only go there in cases where it is my business to do so.

The State of Louisiana is somewhat restricted in its powers to determine whether an individual is non-compliant with their various laws against child porn, beastiality, and drug use; but if a non-compliant citizen gives sworn law enforcement probable cause, my preference is for them to investigate fully and enforce the laws duly passed by republican process as empowered by the US Constitution.

It is there business to do so. They have taken an oath, and I believe public servants should keep their oaths. Don't you?

So the kids were hitting baseballs , the kids parents came and had a baseball bat most likely because they were playing BASEBALL , so you called the cops . ? Why? It's not like the dude just came to your house with a baseball bat out of nowhere.

So what would I do?
1) I'd take some pride in my property n clean up all the mess , living somewhere longer doesn't give you the right to live in a mess for the neighbors to look at.
2) I would have went to the kids parents house myself and told them what the problem was

Can you read

Ratdog 05-01-2014 12:40 AM

the hoodlums were hitting base balls at my mothers car!
frankly i dont understand the reasoning that it was ok due to the way the yard looked.
i guess in a communist society that they way it looks makes it ok.

i for one dont think so.

i find it appalling to think some would think so.

from what i gather reading the comments i did the right thing.

probably best too as im a little unstable and would have enjoyed getting my ars kicked and kicking some too.

i must warn yall if ur kids try to damage moms stuff and i tell u then u come off acting like a school yard bully it gets no were with me. just the cops.

i am done with this thread thanks for the view into society that is so disturbing no wonder im a recluse.

ratdog out.
