What time did you go? Rigolets tide chart said the tide was rising in the morning and falling late in the afternoon. Was this the case?

Nice Feesh!

Nice Feesh!

I was out there from 10am to 230pm, wind can override tide charts in the lake. The WSW wind had the water falling when I arrived at the 11 bridge and continued until I left.

Any wind direction that contains a "W" will flush the lake like a toilet....no matter what the charts say. Just like in St. Bernard Parish....a healthy due west wind is poison on Lake Pontchartrain.

Well said, due West over 10 knots for a decent period is not good for the bite for sure.

well... I finally made it out to Lake P yesterday with a few friends and we caught 5 trout and two reds. Not bad, but I had heard they killed the trout the day before with limits being reached and all coming from very nice trout.

I am now hooked on jigging for trout along the Hwy11 bridge.

I live in Belle Chasse, any recommendation on where the best place is to put the boat in?

My truck gets 10mpg, so a long haul is not one I like to take very often.

SuperDave 06-12-2014 08:12 PM

Chef marina.

I jiggled the causeway last Sunday because I needed to learn how to jig and mainly because I was on call at work so I couldn't go far. Picked up 3 trout and 3 reds. Caught several shorts and that was to be expected from what I was told before I went.

My buddy went the same day tithe trestles and picked up 18 keepers and a flounder.

Coming from Belle Chasse I would put in at Irish Bayou and not fight the load of people that launch at Dockside in Eden Isle's Slidell area.

Thanks for the information. I was not sure if the launch at Irish bayou was still open. Are you talking about the one just down the road from the Irish bayou travel Center on HWY 11.

thanks

sparkyc4 06-13-2014 09:15 AM

Nice feesh...I need a damn boat.

I too need to learn the ways of jiggling. I mainly only use popping corks, so if I want to fish the deep water for trout then what better way.

I am thinking about hitting the trestles on Monday and maybe even do a little trolling to help find the good spots. Anyone thinking about going on Monday? Hit me up if you are, maybe we can tag team this and find where the big girls are hiding out.

I had received a tip the other day about big trout being caught on the North End of the Trestles so figured that might be where I start.

Any words of wisdom from guys who have trolled before?

Irish bayou launch is still open, just pass the BP station.

SuperDave 06-13-2014 02:43 PM

I can't go Monday but I'm not sure how good it's going to be with the weather we've just had.

I still say launch at Chef Harbor Marina.

Visco 06-13-2014 07:52 PM

When I looked for chef marina on the map it took me to the I-10 intersection where six flags use to be. Do you have an address you can send?

That is what I am hoping for. Big, big trout and plenty of them... I am hoping the fishing gods are looking out for me and everyone else out there tomorrow.

Visco 06-16-2014 07:11 PM

Well, I gave it a good shot and I should have listened to you guys... We fished a few rock jetties, and the trestles with only one small trout tagged and released, we used live shrimp and Gulp.

Headed back up Irish Bayou and it was a good call on our behalf as we landed 5 nice bass, I would guess the largest one went 3lbs, and the smallest about a pound and half. All on buzz baits except for the first one which we were trying for trout and I had a she dog on. Talking about a surprise... Fishing for trout and a large mouth slams my she dog.
