stick-it anchor pins?

I have a 20' Tidewater and looking for an easier way to anchor down in shallow water. I have reviewed the power poles and everything in-between, however would like to see what guys around here are using that works.

I am leaning towards a stick-it anchor pin, which I have read a lot of good reviews for boats up to 22'.

Thoughts?

Had on for my 22ft pathfinder. It was worth the money but lost it when I forgot to hold onto the ropen when throwing it down....

If its one of those aluminum rods your talking about. I have one and they work well on my 21 foot boat.

I'm about to go buy one for my grandfather's boat. That little shroom he's got in there is useless if there's any kinda wind or current.

How hard are they to pull out of the ground if you stick em good?

These are really cheap to make. Go to a metal supplier and get an 3/4" aluminum. Its like $30 for a 20 foot length. You can make 3 or 4 from that one piece; split with a friend. Drill a hole, grind a point, and buy a SS clevis and you are done.

I made one for my 21' boat a few years back. I didn't have any 3/4" rod like all of the anchors I've looked at, but I had some 1-1/2" so I made it 4' long. I figured double the width then half the height, right? WRONG! We used it for the first time in White Lake. My buddy speared it in like freaking Zeus throwing a lightning bolt. When we were ready to go, he started pulling on the rope and it wouldn't budge. My little @$$ got on the rope with him and both of us pulling it wouldn't budge. By that time the waves were kicking up like they tend to do in White Lake so we got the idea of using the cleat and the waves to pull it out. When the boat dipped down we pulled all of the slack around the cleat waiting for The wave to pull up the anchor, but the boat stayed put and the waves came in the boat!!! We had to tie it up and use the big motor to pull it out. The mud line was almost 4' up the rope!! Needless to say we just eased it in afterwards. Worked great after that.

Now I said all that to say this... I bought a 3/4" stainless shallow water anchor and that thing is the tits compared to the one I built. But mine is awesome to use as drag when drift fishing! Lol

I have an 8 foot stick it I'd like to get rid of. I sold the boat and have no use for it at this moment. It did work great tho. Easy to move to front, side, or back of boat and held really well in water up to 7.5' deep

I really like it. In fact I like it so much I bought 3 one for each of my boats. Sometimes I even use 2 on my big boat to hold right where I want to be. I just use a rope to hold onto it. I didn't like the mount on my boat.

I've had a stick it for a while and like it. Have the 8 footer. I would get the longest one I could afford/store. Not so much for holding power but for being able to hold in deeper water.

I bought the dig-in shallow water anchor which is very similar, mainly because I picked it up local. I really like it.

http://dig-in-anchors.com/

I also bought the stick it 84" lanyards as well. Those are nice, you can just loop it around your cleat & slide the pole inside the smaller end. I keep it rigged up just like that at all times. That way when I'm ready to deploy it, I just grab & stab.

With all that being said... as soon as I can foot the bill for a power pole I'm getting one. :grinpimp:

Stick it

Had one on a 16 ft custom flat and worked great. Mounted the bracket to a aluminum plate that we bolted to the jack plate. The only thing was the mess from the mud in the boat if ya keep moving around and resetting. Have a power pole now after fishing with friends that had um.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I believe I am going to stick to roots and make one like I do everything else :)

Blackmomba, are you near Belle Chasse?

Thanks again and see everyone on the water

That's another thing I like about the Wang anchor. It cleans easy and when I lay it on the floor the handle keeps it from rolling around and the fiberglass doesn't damage my boat. When I'm fishing it lays on on the side of my front deck so it's easily accessible when I need it.

alphaman 05-09-2014 07:50 AM

I cut 2 foot off the lenght of mine so I can store it in my rod locker. and I wrap it with the rope so it doesn't chip the glass in the locker as you can see in the picture

I made a few from this site.

http://www.mgs4u.com/shallow-water-boat-anchors.htm

The 3/4" 8' fiberglass poles were $16 a piece and the stainless tip and T handle were each about 10 bucks. Almost identical to the stick it anchor for $36 a piece.

The shipping on the fiberglass rods from what I can remember was $33 and the shipping for the stick it anchor was free. So if you only want 1 it isn't worth it. however the shipping for 1 to 23 rods is exactly the same. So if you build a few for yourself and your buddies you can split the shipping and save a good chunk of change.

I built 5 and with shipping they came out to $42 a piece.

They work well for anchoring my 21' bayboat in up to about 5' of water. Also use them on our duck boats with brackets to hold us in place when hunting.

I thought about putting a bracket on my bay boat but because the bracket would be several feet out the water it would probably only effectively work in about 2' of water so I just tie it off to the boat and it works fine. A lot easier than an anchor and surprisingly comes out without much mud on it.

I have the 8ft stick it. I keep the lanyard wrapped to it and tied to a cleat on the bow. Easy and efficient to use. Been worth every penny.

Granger sells the 3/4 fiberglass rods for under 40.00. Ship to store is free.

Do the google search on fiber glass tree stakes. I did earlier and you can get an 8' for $15 and $10 shipping. There were several sites that came up on my search. It would be worth looking into.

OK then... who else is interested in one or two of these? I am looking to either build one or buy the stick it anchor. If we have enough around my area to cut cost of shipping we could do this. I live in Belle Chasse

I am thinking two per boat would be good, this is what I will be doing in order to position my bow in the direction I want to be facing.

Stick it anchor pin with free shipping:
http://www.shop.stickitanchorpins.co...stem-52364.htm

So I stopped by our local hardware store (Jeanfreaus Hardware) and the owner is going to order some of these as he has had a few come in asking about them. Just wanted to let everyone know if you come down Belle Chasse Hwy heading towards Port Sulphur, Empire, Venice in about two weeks you might want to stop by there and see him. They have a good selection of fishing gear and boat supplies as well.

I figured I would update this link by saying Jean Freaus now carries these. He has the 8' X 3/4" in white and black for $84 a piece. I will have one or both within a few weeks,
