buying new truck

Looking at buying a 2014 dodge ram 1500 Eco diesel. Anyone has one ? My 2003 GMC sierra 1500 is in need of a upgrade. Having trouble with pulling my offshore boat up tall bridge.

meaux fishing 05-26-2014 01:25 PM

I've been looking hard at that truck. I'm really trying to wait till the 2016 tundras with the cummins in them

papap 05-26-2014 02:09 PM

Waiting for dealer to get one in to to drive.

alphaman 05-26-2014 05:25 PM

Houston seem Like the best internet quote so far 31990 for slt. Hopefully a shop in Louisiana can price match or do better.

Goooh 05-26-2014 05:42 PM

Probably a good towing truck, but I personally won't buy anyone's first year new technology...

weedeater 05-26-2014 05:49 PM

Just curious as to why yall all so interested in this truck instead of just buying a Ram 2500 with diesel

Price wise...If i had the money I would get one..

H2OFwlKlr 05-26-2014 06:09 PM

Who is making the ECO diesel for Dodge?

haoward 05-26-2014 06:17 PM

Ram's new EcoDiesel is shared with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and built in Italy by Fiat subsidiary VM Motori. The 3.0-liter DOHC turbodiesel V-6 produces 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

Do you know rough estimate of a price difference?

Because not everyone wants a 3/4 ton truck. These new 1/2 ton trucks are giant sized as it is.

haoward 05-26-2014 07:32 PM

Its between this and the ford f150 eco

Go 5.7 gas ram way before Eco, that Eco is a turns pulling a boat like you got. The ram will out tow an Eco, and gets better mileage

papap 05-26-2014 07:51 PM

Have several friends that bought the ford Eco boost. Getting about 16 mpg.

Your friends must be logging differently. Towing ain't close to that, especially not with an Offshore boat.

Really? Your saying that a V8 hemi will get better mileage than a V6 diesel? By the way diesel has more btu's than gas hence more power. You have a ford Eco boost right?

I think he was saying the hemi will be better than the ford ecoboost

jbert22 05-26-2014 08:25 PM

Also see a lot of posts bashing dodge. Although I don't care for there gas trucks, I own an 08 cummins and get 17 to 18 mpg towin a 20 ft bass rig. Some of the numbers others are getting with other brands sucks!

jbert22 05-26-2014 08:27 PM

Ah ok. I'm not a fan of either.

Is that the 6.7? you have 4wd? standard or auto?

dave 05-26-2014 08:36 PM

Dodge 2500 5.7l. Driven round trip Cottonport, La to Marshall, Tx. with just 2 ice chests in the bed = 12.3 mpg. Same truck pulling a UNLOADED 14 ft enclosed trailer round trip to Lafayette = 8.7 mpg

My company truck is a laramie 1500 4x4, and wasn't a fan of dodge at all. Still not sure, but I am impressed with the truck. Definitely impressed with the mileage and how it toes my boat compared to Eco boosts

AubreyLaHaye458 05-26-2014 08:40 PM

This is probably irrelevant to this conversation, but I drove a '13 Dodge 5.7 hemi 2wd without a towing package for 2 weeks while mine was in the body shop. I averaged 21-22 mpg with the cruise set on 84 on I-49. That truck had more power than any other gas truck I've driven. Just wish it had a towing package so I could have seen what it did with the boat.

Negative. That will be down the road as these trans are weak. Any other mods would require a beefed up tranny

What year? That's a lot heavier truck than the 1500,. My '13 will get 22mpg at 74, it's a crew 1500 4x4.

Towing my 24' bay boat is 10-12mpg if the wind is blowing at my back and I'm slightly down hill!

alphaman 05-26-2014 09:36 PM

I have 2011 durango with the hemi and i get 14mpg pulling my 2104 cruising 65. Now if I go 70. That's another story 9-10mpg. You won't get good Gas mileage pulling at 70 anyway

I get 23 on the highway going 70-73

Yow!

all star rod 05-27-2014 08:30 AM

My 4x4 Eco (4 door) gets overall mpg is 16.3. Towing my 22' bay boat at 65-70 I get 12-13.

I know a guy with a 2 wheel drive Eco (4 door) and he gets just over 20. He does not have a boat so he does not tow enough to get a estimated mpg.

weedeater 05-27-2014 08:54 AM

Personally if a truck gets 15-17 on Highway, 13-15 in town and 10-12 towing I am more then satisfied because it is a truck after all..... of course this would be any full size, 4 door, 4x4 set up to tow with a low gear ratio.

majorrob 05-27-2014 06:52 PM

Courtesy dodge in Breaux Bridge has the 1/2 ton diesel in stock.

haoward 05-27-2014 07:33 PM

Not sure if I should wait till Sept when the 2015 one come out, price might drop on the 14 ..

I have a 2013 RAM 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 with the 5.7 and get the same mileage as my buddy that has a F150 EcoBoost 4x4 and another buddy that has a F150 5.0 FX4 when we pull the same trailer with a Polaris Ranger and all our hunting stuff, ice chests, etc. We all get between 10.5-11.

Driving back and forth to work from Delcambre to Lafayette on Hwy 90 and through Lafayette, I average 14.5

On the Interstate with nothing loaded in my truck I'll get 18-19+ if I don't drive stupid.
