New Knots Suck

Am I the only one that gets frustrated when trying to learn a new knot? Playing with the FG knot right now. I've got it to a working knot but its just not very pretty. Really pisses me off when you think you finally have it figured out just to realize you don't.
My dreams are being crushed a few feet of string at a time.:grinpimp:

keakar 05-27-2014 09:56 PM

yep, you cant do it while fishing, you have to tie about 30-40 knots at home until you get used to it and even then you forget sometimes.

Ducktrickster 05-28-2014 07:17 AM

All you need is a loop and a surgeon. They are both simple.

You use a palomar to join two lines?

Of all the people in this forum, I would never have thought that you'd have a hard time tying a knot!:rotfl:

Smell a hook 12 foot of leader. Bimini the main line. Run leader end threw Bimini loop wrap five times and back threw loop same direction pull tight clip tags and catch fish.

Video to come.

Now that is freaking funny :)

Wanted the FG knot to join 100+lb mono to 80lb PP. Its a very slimline knot that will pass through the eyes smoothly.
That and I like knots. Never know when ya gona need em ;)

Is this knot better than the Albright knot?

KDM 05-28-2014 12:37 PM

Use a Red Phillips knot to join braid and mono. Surgeons not to make a loop on your main line

sparkyc4 05-28-2014 01:05 PM

Uni to Uni and Palomar are only knots I tie.

Man I really cant say justifiably. Havent been saltwater fishing long and im trying to learn new knots. Tied the FG last night and had my son and my daughtwrs bf test it. 90lb braid FG'd to 50lb mono. They were pulling like hell before the mono gave out. The knot held though. Both lines cut into the wooden dowls they had it wrapped around.

bayouchub 05-28-2014 02:32 PM

The alberto knot is a great knot to attach braid to leader. Its pretty simple to tie and when tied properly very slim.

Visco 05-28-2014 02:48 PM

I only use two knots, one for daily use and the other when I know I need a little extra hold at the knot its self.

Nice ratdog. The second one was sweet. I have so many knots I need/want to learn.

Ratdog 05-28-2014 08:06 PM

Sorry for so many posts pad would not let me get adresses.

I use this for 125 mono to 80 lb braid. Went all day bent 2 hooks never retied just snelled new hooks.

Quick easy and I also use top shot from 17 lb mono to 80 braid other way no problems with guides cast right threw just make close cuts on tags as they won't work free. Ratty tags hit guides.nots never stick with flush trims during cast or reel in.

Good luck and sometimes easy is best.

Gota replace one of the roux spoons.lol.
First attempt just broke the spoon.
Second attempt led to a failure of the mono just below the knot.
Notice how much the 80lb PP dug into the wood on the second try before the mono broke.

Ratdog 05-28-2014 08:19 PM

Try a rap on the woon so no friction burn or slip. I use bamboo and old rag with rubber bands to hold it on.

Will a double uni work to tie braid to fluorocarbon?
