Trout spinning reel?

Thinking about buying a new Stradic. Is it worth the $220 or is there a similar reel out there for less?

Visco 06-08-2014 08:50 AM

I only use Penn, good luck with your decision. I like the Pen SSV3500 and SSV4500 for inshore fishining.

Clampy 06-08-2014 09:37 AM

Yes. Worth every penny. If you look you can find em for 180 ish

What are the better spinner reels? An h20 bait caster cast almost as good as a curado or lews. Do the high dollar spinner cast that much better?

lsudawg 06-08-2014 01:14 PM

Ggggg is nothing. '**' on many message boards in the title means there is no message beyond the title. Some boards won't post a message with only a title and no text. Hence the Gggg - just a random key tapping.

I personally look at casting as a lower consideration when purchasing. They are all going to throw pretty well, the cost difference is justified in length of life, drag performance, and overall sturdiness when a fish is is on. I have had cheap reels that sling well, but aggravated the crap out of me once a fish was on.

If I purchase something that I use often, I want it to remain that way for years to come without having to swap it at academy every season...

Shamino Sahara 2500 HD Clam
put the rest $ in the bank

ThePinkBanana 06-08-2014 09:23 PM

the NEW PENN conflict, or any okuma spinning reel. I prefer the penn conflict 2500 over the SSV 3500, it weighs in at 3 oz lighter and has 7+1 ball bearings compared to the SSV 5+1 Bearings... Plus it's the same price =)

speck-addict 06-08-2014 11:37 PM

Penn battle series is a good reel too. I throw that and a Stratic. Seem like I always reach for the Stratic first tho.

SGib 06-09-2014 06:08 AM

What rod do you like? I have a spinning reel somewhere but rod is junk.

speck-addict 06-09-2014 08:36 AM

Waterloo just got one after feeling a buddies of mine.

B Shark 06-09-2014 10:09 AM

I'm looking at getting a couple of these. Any body have one yet? 66lb drag sounds pretty good

Jrchip1 06-10-2014 09:41 AM

2-3 years and all Spinning reels nut up. Where as a bait casting reel will last forever. With that said, I use Spinning reels 90% of the time. They're not as rugged as bait casting reels, but when they're functioning properly, they are a true joy.

Do you use them in Saltwater????

C-Bass2mouth 06-10-2014 02:46 PM

If I can get away with using spinning gear I will 100% of the time. It's just more fun. Only really started using them the last 2 years. If you use them enough you WILL get good at them. I can flip, pitch, and skip docks with the best of em now. And if you use braid, or at least a braid mainline, you can get a good hook set on a long cast just like you could with heavier line, long rod, and a baitcast set up. Now I don't use them much in salt but I really really like the okumas. Their bait casts are horrible (got 2 this year, POOP) but the Trios is sweet. Got mine from tacklewarehouse.com, under 80 bucks and its a 6:2:1 ratio. Thats what im holding in my avi pic.

2-3 years really depends on what spinning reel your talking about. Theres a few out there that last much longer than that.

SULPHITE 06-10-2014 02:52 PM

Just bought a shimano symetre entering the spinning world...

True but how many last when used 300 of 365 days.

I never use the same one 4-5 times in a row but I would say penn V no bale.

newguy 06-10-2014 04:34 PM

although it's not a stradic and you specified that that is your interest, check out the Okuma Epixor, they are every bit of the same quality and performance and cost much less.

I have 2 of those as well that I let others use. Good for the money but once you use a sahara or symetre on up you will never go back. Biggest difference to me is they just feel more solid and the drag system on shimano's are the best IMO.
