V bay 8-3

3 Attachment(s)
Attachment 72565Attachment 72566Attachment 72567
Mad a afternoon trip with gizzle and got on em quick until a v bay special rolled in on us chucked his anchor 20 ft only for it to come off so he literally drifts right over the top of where we were casting and fires it up and lays half a figure 8 on top of where we were casting. I swear I'm gonna be putting my rod down completely from now on when I hear a outboard. We could have had close to a limit in a hour or so.
After that spot was ruined we ran to a reef on the outside and caught a few on top.

Nice fish, the few times that that has ever happened to me I just gave them a little advice because sometimes they don't know better and it may help for next time and you might even make a friend like that, but some people just don't care and don't mind just running over you and there is nothing you can do with those people, again nice fish.

Clampy 08-04-2014 08:34 PM

He clearly lost his anchor so I didn't yell or anything. They had fish busting everywhere and we were the only boat. They plenty of room. He only stopped cuz he saw a bent rod is what annoyed me.

Try this, next time you are on anchor take the cover of your motor off and act like you are broke down, they might keep going, friend of mine told me that works to keep people away but I've never tried it.Lol Good Luck next time and I promise if I ever cross you on the water if I mess you up it wasn't intentional only an accident.

I'm sure a fisherman like you would never. It was just a long weekend of that happening. I'm done complaining like a woman now.

Rod tips down...... that's what I preach when fishing vbay. Anywhere else do what you like with your fish.

jopheso 08-05-2014 09:04 AM

I dont care what anyone says Big Lake is BY FAR the worst for people driving up on you

I just put on a Corky or something I can chunk a mile and throw it right at the head of the person driving the boat.

My rule is if I can reach ya I will hit ya.

This brings up an interesting question. A lot of people feel this way and my question is, when you say "if I can reach ya..." are you talking 360 degrees around your boat?

I am thinking of a specific incident we had pulling along side someone, still 20 yards away, and the guy getting pissed even though he was casting directly behind his boat and we in no way impeded his ability to cast where he had been casting for the last 30 minutes.

Thoughts?

Clampy 08-05-2014 03:18 PM

The general rule of thumb is a 2 cast distance away. 360 deg

I would say it all depends. If there are 50 boats stacked together and your 51, I'd say there's a good chance I would give you a pass. If there are 4 or 5 boats and you get close enough for me to understand a conversation your having in your boat I am gonna be pissed. I will cut some slack to someone who obviously doesn't know what they are doing, which is more often than not the case. But if you roll up on me and say something like "Y'all catching some trout", I am probably gonna lose my composure.

two casting distance 360 deg? wow! so basically if you get to the rig first...that's your rig? or if you get to the reef first, that's your reef? I mean I can cast a 3/8oz jig head and LONG way on a 7ft rod, if I was to double that and say 360deg circle that's massive

I guess Im different. if I am on fish and someone can approach appropriately(i.e. not idling through the cast zone) and they don't set up shop in a manner that restricts where Im casting, then I kind of feel like the more the merrier.

Clampy 08-05-2014 04:41 PM

Vertical structure and deep water is a little different. If you are fishing where you have to cast far it's different.

Clampy 08-05-2014 04:44 PM

You aren't going to spook fish as easily in 15 - 30 ft of water. But if I'm in 3 ft and I can take your hat off with a cast you are waaaaaay to close.

meaux fishing 08-05-2014 04:46 PM

If somebody can set up by me and not screw me up or get in my way, which never happens, Im ok with it. Unless they are close enough to tie my boat to theirs, then I will probably say something.

Like the cove in the fall. There is so many fish that hold there there is no reason to get on top of people but they do and why do people pull baits with big motor literally zigzagin in and out of other boats.
That $ hit is un called for.

Vbay is just full of rude trout fisherman. Last year in the fall a podna and I were fishing the trash pile area. Had about 30-40 boats fishing the area. Scanned the area with the binos looking for shrimp popping. Noticed some popping a good 200 yards or more from the crowd and took off. We busted 20 something trout before they saw us. Literally had 12 boats haul tail right on top of us. And this was on a wednesday.

bgizzle 08-05-2014 08:14 PM

They don't care. We had one come on us today on half step knowing we slingin em in two at a time and he just waved! Got thru the whole school and shut down big motor and trolled back thru his prop wash! Phahahahaha

That kind of crap used to piss me off and ruin my day. Now I have learned to just laugh and keep casting.

All depends how you pull up. Drift in quietly and I'm good.

2 casts all around, unless we are fishing Lake Martin or The Cove... Then it's fair game, shame on me for being dumb enough to fish there (I'll be there too).

backlash 08-06-2014 09:19 AM

If you're too close in any direction, you're too close. I want to be able to fish in any direction because if I'm not catching in one spot, I want to try another and I don't want some nitwit behind me. Do that to me and I'll crank up and run circles around you too.

pelchay11 08-06-2014 10:15 AM

Don't mean to change the subject but Clampy what app for the phone can you make the pic look that way....cool looking pics and nice catch!!

B gizzle did that.

backlash 08-06-2014 11:36 AM

Yes, you are too close. What if a fellow wants to fish in another direction. Shouldn't have to decide where to fish based on where you can throw without hitting another boat.

Try Camera+. You can do anything with that app. Looks like whatever app he used its a HDR filter.

legallimits 08-06-2014 06:54 PM

Did you catch those in the bay? Or did you head out to the saltwater? I didn't think anybody was finding specks in the bay with that nasty brown freshwater.

bgizzle 08-06-2014 09:20 PM

Toward the pass. Bay wasn't that much different than the pass tho

"Go ahead, share your opinion! I won't cry"

jopheso 08-07-2014 10:13 AM

interesting the different opinions on "whats too close" some people expect 2 times casting distance 360 degrees some people are fine with you approaching as long as you do it slowly and quietly.

Now how to tell the difference when you are on the water??? maybe different types of pirate flags or something :)
