Ants ants ants

Ok so 3-4 weeks ago we noticed a big increase of spiders all trying to get in the house. i took advantage of seeing this and went ahead and sprayed inside and outside. while i was spraying i noticed that there was a big line of ants crawling up the cement form up under the hardy board and into the house. i made sure to spray really good in this area and all over as well. a couple days ago we noticed a few ants coming out of the grout where the shower meets the bottom bottom trim for the floor. didnt think much of it and sprayed them and they were gone. this morning when the lady got up for work she noticed there were ants on the stove, crawling out of the backsplash from a light switch. these arent the tiny sugar ants but these are fire ants and a lot of them. i feel like i trapped them inside when i sprayed and now theyre in our walls when i took the path outside from them and now theyre living inside. weve never seen them in the house until now. i know with all the rain weve had that they are looking for dry places, but theyve got to go... CALL PETA!

Question is... how do i get rid of these?
-Bait them? with what?
-Poison them more with liquid? with what?
-Bomb the house? with what?
-Burn the place to the ground?
-Other

need to get these gone ASAP cause i dont need ants eating my bday cake again! :help:

Tjethro85 08-05-2014 12:33 PM

Burn it

duckman1911 08-05-2014 12:33 PM

Bomb the house.... 20lbs of blackpowder should be enough to do the job ;)

BuckingFastard 08-05-2014 12:35 PM

yea yea lolol well thatll be last choice. pretty sure i can get my hands on some pretty good cancer causing chemicals if i know what to get!

BassYakR 08-05-2014 12:36 PM

Good luck... been fighting them for years now.... they will go away for a couple months then back again

BuckingFastard 08-05-2014 12:41 PM

probably gonna bomb them hard friday when we're gone if nobody has a good way

wed68 08-05-2014 12:54 PM

If you can figure out exactly which walls there in you can drill small holes and inject chemical to kill them that way ...... Then keep a chemical barrier on outside of house and broadcast the ENTIRE yard with a poison granule ...... You can't kill all the ants in the yard but you can drive them to your neighbors yard ...... Best chemical hands down is Demon WP you can get it at any feed store ..... Mix it as directed no need to mix it extra strong

lil bubba 08-05-2014 01:06 PM

I had them moving into my garage walls . I used bayer carpenter ant and termite killer from home depot. I saturated the slab around garage wall outside and seeing as how it was the garage I drilled a 1/2 inch hole through the sheetrock inside and stuck a spray pump nozzle between studs and let them have it. I have seen ants do just as much damage as termites.

BuckingFastard 08-05-2014 01:50 PM

yea i was hoping to keep from drilling holes for sure. at least in one area i can just take the light switch off and go from there

Lil Silver 08-05-2014 02:14 PM

For outside....spray the whole yard with Bifen IT. Just sprayed mine.

Hightower 08-05-2014 02:24 PM

Recently dealt with carpenter ants in and around the master bathroom of my house. Used the bait gel and bait granules made by Maxforce. Also applied some Delta Dust to areas where they were entering the siding. I think I killed every one of them, and there were a lot!!

Not sure if this same application will work for fire ants but might be worth looking in to. Good Luck!

BuckingFastard 08-05-2014 02:59 PM

Perfect! I just bought some demon wp and I'll buy some bait now so they can take it with them.

if what you bought doesnt work the pros use suspend sc as a liquid for inside and outside the house. you can use talstar granules in they yard. i put the granules every 3-4 months and it keeps them out. i use the suspend quarterly around the perimeter of the house and inside only when we see something.

Gasper Master 08-05-2014 09:26 PM

i set an alarm on my phone for the 1st of every month and i spray bifen around my whole house. I spray inside the weep holes in my bricks, at the base of my slab, and 2 - 3ft around the whole house. Don't have any problems with any insects in the house.

I believe that the insects do have to go outside to drink at some time.

Prolly get robbed too, you know RD been waiting for you to leave

swamp snorkler 08-06-2014 06:11 AM

Spread Tal-Star granules all over your yard and into the neighbors yard. It will keep the ant out of your yard.

alphaman 08-06-2014 06:36 AM

I'm having trouble with ants too. After a b i g rain. They are crawling up my carport post. To where I don't know. I have a big live oak tree over the front of my house.

BuckingFastard 08-06-2014 06:44 AM

yea we are surrounded by big oaks with branches hanging. 4 year old house built under the oaks.
looks good and keeps cool all day but it does attract bugs

Bumfisherman 08-06-2014 07:02 AM

Look on the website do my own pest control.com. I used the termidor sc for my ant problem which is also a termite chemical. It wiped them out. It also has a long term residual which will keep them out.

BuckingFastard 08-15-2014 10:31 AM

ants are all gone and havent returned. didnt even have time for them to get in the bait traps. sprayed the entire house with bitherin.... even on the roof.

irokcj5 08-15-2014 06:01 PM

Brother it sounds like those were not fire ants. Look up Rasberry Crazy ants. These are very invasive and while you may have killed what was in the house, it did not kill the colony. You NEED to call an exterminator to come out. Crazy ants are invading south louisiana (from florida and texas) and the are impossible to kill out, only can control them. Once they get into house, you have a lot of trouble on your hands. They are attracted to electrical and are known to short out appliances in the house and cause fires. I don't have a fire ant problem anymore because they even kill them!! I want my fire ants back! These things multiply like crazy so as soon as you start seeing them again, call the exterminator and they can try some experimental pesticides. Granules do not work.

speck-chaser 08-15-2014 09:48 PM

There is a new granule that works on crazy ants. We sell it at our nursery. Its actually a bait. I found it at one of our nursery trade shows. They have been working on it a few years now and seems to do the trick. The cold winter we just had, did a good job of killing large amounts of them. They dont build nests in the ground like fire ants, instead have nests under things laying on the ground or in mulch etc. They have multiple queens per nest. They have found that they like protein based baits rather than sugar typ baits like most other ants go for.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! You are right about the winter, they disappeared for about 5 months. I'm coming to get some granules!! Do I broadcast the yard? I have 3/4 acre, how much do I need? Does it work for a couple of months or so?

Where is your nursery. Bc. I'm tired of these ants too. blew the leave off the roof the other day and the ants where all under there. Cut s some branches off the live oak that where hanging close to the roof. They had ants all over the branches. Also the ants arc climbing up my aluminum post for my boat shed looks like they are might be making a mount inside the post from the top

speck-chaser 08-16-2014 11:57 AM

@ Alpha, we are on the service road between avery island rd and Lewis street along hwy 90. @ Jrock there is different application rates for this, but one 16 oz container will generally treat about 1500 sq. ft. This along with talstar and termidor is an unbeatable combination for just about everything.

irokcj5 08-16-2014 09:13 PM

Thank, you! I"ll see you this week!

Swamprat587 08-18-2014 05:24 PM

just lost a central air unit down in Venice to ants. Light switches, fluorescent lights, even the toaster has been inundated... little black ants. We've sprayed and spread grannuals till we're blue in the face. suckers are still all over.

irokcj5 08-18-2014 09:57 PM

Granules for bugs and fire ants don't work. Will be picking up some from speck chaser this week. In the mean time you need to call a pest contol and let them know it's crazy ants. I had them bad last year although not in house. Exterminator used 55 gallons treating my yard with experimental product and knocked them out for about 6 weeks. Had to come back and do again. They were gone thru the winter. Good luck

well looks like ill have nightmares now! haha
ill try to take a pic of one if i see one. i seen a dead pile of them outside in the flower bed where i sprayed. they were crawling out of the roots of a myrtle and had a short trail to a pile of dead ones haha. i think the poison is stopping them in a way but if youre right about what they are i will continue to hit them while theyre down.

BuckingFastard 08-19-2014 07:05 AM

i think youre 100% right on the electrical idea. they came in right next to the ac unit which has the most power outside and they showed up coming out of a wall socket. they look very similar to fire ants if so. i need to look at photos to compare, if there is a difference.

Hightower 08-19-2014 11:31 AM

Hit every crack and crevice outside with Drione or Delta dust. You can even apply inside...just make sure to watch out for kids and pets. This stuff kills all insects and is a great supplement when spraying insecticides.

irokcj5 08-19-2014 09:55 PM

Crazy ants are tiny, fast, and don't follow straight line....look like fast drunk ants.

Mako19 08-19-2014 10:05 PM

I have been having issues with ants around and in my home for the last 3 weeks. Had been blaming it on all of the rain we have been getting.....before I read this thread. Starting to be concerned that I have been invaded by these "crazy" ants too.

speck-chaser 08-19-2014 10:55 PM

If you look close, they are kinda "hairy" looking, antennas are slightly longer, they dont usually bite either. They are very bad for electrical things. When one gets zapped with electricity, they send out a scent or alarm and more keep piling on till your electrical device shorts out. In Houston Tx. they have spent over a million dollars on treatments to keep them out of the big power plants. When they invade an area, they will outforage other ants, and literally eat all the instects all the way up to baby birds. Had some experts tell me they had found some places in the woods where there was bunches of these ants and in the evening everything was silent. No crickets chirping or nothing.
