Honda 250
 

Anyone own one or know anybody that is running one on there boat?
My buddy is looking into maybe putting one on his 25ft SeaChaser!

Have a friend with a 150 and had zero problems for a few years now. I was impressed by it. No dealings with a bigger one tbough

Ive heard nothing but good things about em. Not sure if there is a warranty service center around here, which is probably why you dont see too many

Have a buddy who had one on his hankos he said he loved it. They beat the hell out of it and zero issues. He's having one put on his new hankos being built now.

I have a 200 and have had zero problems. There is a service center in Beaumont and Lafayette. I would recommend heritage marine in Beaumont.

Just wondering why these engines are so cheap! Brand new 250 will run u about $11,000! Why aren't people running more of these motors at this price??

I know nothing for certain but ...

I heard it was a marketing campaign they are trying because they want to gain a bigger market share and they want to get rid of being know as the "expensive" motors out there so they are trying to have attractive price points on all of their motors.

even though they always had a good rep for reliability, they have earned a bad rep price wise so most people chose other brands in the past and there weren't as many dealerships around because of slow sales since they used to be like the cadillac of outboards price wise.

I would keep looking for any reports of "issues" with their motors but in my book I would jump all over that deal

I'll tell you why. Because they cost a helluva lot more than $11,000. Dealer invoice on a 2014 Honda 250 runs at over $19000 depending on the model. So if you can get a new 250 for $11,000 then buy a bunch and I will buy one and help you sell the rest. :rotfl:

All I know is they are a hell of a motor.
There is a reason you see a lot comercial oilfield boats in the marsh and spillway with a pair on the back.

The new big horsepower tohatsus are honda engines. 250 honda and the new 250 tohatsu are the same engine....

I don't see it as a negative because I love the tohatsu motors but if they really are the same he should buy the tohatsu 250 to save a lot of money and he will still have the same motor, just by a different name

I would be careful here. This sounds like saying that a Force motor was the same as a Mercury. There is NO WAY Honda is making the identical motor and selling it under the Tohatsu name for way less money. Not a chance there isn't some major difference.

at best there are usually only minor differences in rebadged motors

as to what rebadging is you actually have it reversed, tohatsu makes the motor for Honda and then Honda jacks the price up and puts their colors and Honda stickers on the motor to call it their own. that's how rebadging works, a company finds another company that can build the motor a lot cheaper then they can build it themselves so they buy the motor from them and have it painted in their own colors and stickers. in 2000 the midsized evinrudes were made by Suzuki and I could use ANY part from my Suzuki on the evinrude and ANY part from the evinrude would fit on my Suzuki. the only difference was the sticker on the cowling and they even used the same paint color unless it was the white motor.

and I have never heard anyone say a force is the same as a mercury and if they did they were misinformed

ahh ok, well then I was wrong Honda is the builder and tohatsu is the buyer of Honda motors larger then 115hp so they can offer a line of big motors (never suspected that to be the case) but that would also mean the big tohatsu motors larger then 115hp wont be any cheaper then the Hondas so he is better off just getting the honda

Sorry for the misunderstanding. But I knew what i was talking about.. Anyway the other posts explain it. They are the same, and are manufactured by honda on anything larger than 115hp. never stated anything about them being cheaper, just put it out there that they might check into it.
