Lots of Action at the Pass

3 Attachment(s)
The bite out on Caldwell has been pretty good as of late. If you are looking for size, don't waste your time. If action is what you crave, the pass is the place to be. Past three days have been the best in the last two weeks. Fish on every cast with lots of white trout and throw backs, but every now and then you will find a 2 pounder. It's like a slot machine, just keep flinging quarters at them until it pays out. All fish caught on plastic. Change the color when the water changes. I double or triple rig everything and cast a lot. And please remember, the fish are everywhere out there, don't set up on someone slinging fish in the boat. I wouldn't ask you to share your wife, don't ask me to share my spot, it's just as inappropriate.

Yeah Ced,

Turn out the lights, the party's over, they making me go back to work. My boat needs a break. 70 hours on the motor in 3 weeks. But I put some fish on the deck. Let's put a beating on them next time we are off at the same time.

alphaman 10-11-2014 12:26 AM

Sweet!!

Marque 10-11-2014 09:29 AM

Yeah, someone aught to try throwing an Alabama rig out there. $hit would get real in a hurry. Thought about trying it but I can't bring myself to by something that looks that retarded.

Montauk17 10-11-2014 09:35 AM

Nice catch....but I am more interested in the boat. Is that a cape bay?

Marque 10-11-2014 12:39 PM

Maybe

Yeah man. Had her about two months now. I'm very pleased. I hope you asking about the boat and not me. IF I lost my composer with you I sorry, I get a little excited when there's another boat in my bubble.

Montauk17 10-11-2014 01:06 PM

Lol. Don't be hating cause I didn't go with a Triton. I stay away from that circus. I'm from the west side, the best side, and tend to stay there. You may catch
Me at the Avery evey blue moon but the Delcambre canal is the DMZ to me. When the Pointers come over Vermilion and think we like to spoon like they do in the cove I feel compelled to set some boundaries.

wishin i was fishin 10-11-2014 02:16 PM

Scouted around weeks bay yesterday afternoon and concluded the fish havent made it that far north yet. was conna go tot he pass today but my plans fell through.

thank you for this i have been fishing da point for 2 weeks and catching a lot of those good eating gafftops but no trout. There have been a bunch of boats in da cove and weeks and i seen people catching trout and we get right up to them and throw anchor and then catch gafftops while they catch trout.

My cousins are coming down next week and I want to put them on some trout. I like that you catch them on every cast at Caldwell Reef so we gonna go and give them a try. My boat aint real big but I told my neighbor and he said he and his 10 friends that work offshore and are off this week want to go and they got big boats in case I run outta gas. I googled Caldwell Reef and see that it is pretty big. I am not asking for specific spots, but if you can point out on a map where you been catching I would be real happy. I want to show my cousins a good time and catch trout. I can not figure how to double rig on these corks that I use though. I have the 4" corks with a weight on the bottom and 2 feet of wire on them. Do I just tie another wire leader onto it or what? Are they biting on the big or small dead shrimp? thanks in advance

Goooh 10-11-2014 03:47 PM

Just nose hook swimming mullets on every barb of a treble hook. 8' under a cork with a 3 oz weight above the hook so it gets down.
If you not slap fulla braid you ain't catching squat

that hand at the boat ramp told me that ladyfish was good for big trout? But I ain't putting them good eating ladyfish on a hook lol!

Got me some spiderwire last night at Academy. Had it on clearance rack and its 100 lb test and put 125 yards on my surf rod in case a big drum gets it. They had some wire leader material but they wanted like $25 for that stuff. My buddy is a MIG welder so we got some of his flux core wire to tie on so them oysters don't cut our lines.

Looking forward to tomorrow, got the shrimp thawing out. At least if we don't catch any trout, gonna have some shrim to fry up

Here's my spots bruh.

DaPointIsDaBomb 10-12-2014 11:26 AM

Just got back from the water with all them couyons:pissed:

Had my boat, 3 neighbors boats, and 5 others and we tied up at the channel marker. Had a nice gafftop and a ladyfish in boat first five minutes. Bout ten minutes later saw a buncha boats trolling around chasing birds. The birds were eating shrimp, we could see the shrimp coming up to the surface. I untied from the marker and we motored up ahead of all the boats and threw anchor down. The shrimp started coming closer and closer and once they got close enough we started throwing cast nets to get them shrimp. We got a few in there but people started yelling at us, guess they thought those were THEIR shrimp! Several times, birds would pop up and find those shrimp and we would untie and get ahead of them and cast. Woulda caught a bunch moreshrimp but we all lost our castnets in the dang oysters.

Seen a couple guys on the other side catching trout so untied and motored over there towards them and got hung up on oyster reef. Tried going full power forward and reverse and couldn't get off the reef. Finally got my 2 buddies with their big Boston Whalers to pull me off.

Could see one of those guys just waving his hands in the air as we were trying to get off the reef, so once we got off took a different route and got up to his boat and threw him a rope so we could tie up. He got all pissy and I said why did you wave us over then? He got mad and started cussing, so I shut him up quick when I showed him my .38.

Got back to the channel marker and we finally got on a decent ladyfish bite til a oyster boat comes flying through and messed up our bite.

Bout to go to the camp and fry up some of these shrimp and ladyfish. Wanted to go squirrel hunting this afternoon but buddy went yesterday morning and didn't get any said the full moon got em feeding at night

I think the spelling and grammar is to good for any of this to be true.

Whoever it is has way too much time on his hands. He should have said he was from Delcambre or Forked Island. Erath is a little too cosmopolitan.

I don't think its W. You would have to be familiar enough with Vbay to come up with what he's saying. I don't think the fishery is prestigious enough for someone like W to waste much time there. Whoever it is is funny though. I towed a 20 ft Boston Whaler in from the last channel marker to ICY about two weeks ago, they had run out of gas. 4 guys from Lafayette. I don't know too many locals with Whalers. The worst potlickers are in Nautic Stars, should have used that.

Ain't me cuz! Y'all can believe it's me though won't make me mad. It's funny but it's someone that loves to stir crap it seems. Almost too good of grammar for "w" but he might spell and put more commas when he's drinking. Idk it ain't me tho.

Goooh or Clampy is my guess. Clampy prolly too lazy to do it. Goooh, quite possible with a little liquor involved and he's very smart so the grammatical parts would fall into place as well.l

We gonna wait out this first little squall then head out. Went to Academy last nite and they wanted too much for wire leaders and corks. Went down to cousins house who is a MIG welder and got some flux core wire for leader material and then made some popping corks out of crab trap floats on the lathe. My corks got much more weight on them than them store bought floats, I can sling em a mile. Academy can suck it! No .22 bullets either:pissed:

MarshMud 10-13-2014 07:54 AM

That squaw ain't keeping me in, never trust the weather man. If it gets too bad I'll just tie my skiff to the dry reef platform and hunker down. They only there during the week so skipping a day for a little rain aint an option.

Wish I had thought of a crab float because it would come in handy with all that wind today. I saw somehweres a guy said they only eat looking up, would they see the big float though?

Tee, you got to get out there early. You got enough weight in that flat to make it cut the waves. Thought you had you a T Top, you ain't got no shirt on and them jorts dry off quick. Quit making excuse and go scare some trout.

Hey bruh, I got a sain if you think you can get them boats you had this weekend I bet we could make a loop on Caldwell. We need about 5 of them whalers to keep the sain out the oysters and 5 flats to run interference on them fopdubois trying to anchor on your reef. What you say?
