$200.00 less saltwater baitcaster???
Been using shimano caenan baitcasters since they came out. Easy to throw . Backlash almost non existent. Clean once a year. Only 90 bucks. Well I'm finally wearing them out and the only problem I now have is they no longer make them and I called a reputable parts and repair place I have used and parts are no longer available. Anyone use the curado i series ??? They claim they are fit to use in salt water. Any others out there salt water approve less than $200.00???

curado I series.. IMO junk. Bought one, lasted about 4.5 months half salt/half fresh. Light rinse after each salt trip, and oiled a few times. It just felt like a constant friction while reeling, casted fine though.
Favorite reel is the chronarch, I bought one in 2011 and it has been my primary go to reel. Probably 3/4 salt 1/4 fresh, I use it every weekend and I haven't had to do a damn thing to it. I've used it so much that I think I maybe wearing away the reel seat on the rod its on. I replaced that curado with another chronarch, I think that $20 more makes a world of a difference between the two. |
Look for a used chronarch 50 mg. can pick up a nice one for around 125-150$. Rinse with fresh water after each trip, clean once a year.

I have a chronarch arch ci4 and it sucks. Stepping up to a core next time at bass pro.
My lews tourney pro for 170 is a beast. All my shimano e series still work great. They have been abused for years. |
Can't mess with the old chronarch 50mg or bantam 100 models.
|
Get a shimano e series while you still can. Its shimanos only japan made reel in your price range. The new curados are made in Malaysia which from my experience equals low quality. Once the e series chrony is discontinued i would bet that shimano will no longer have a japan made reel in the $200 range.

Do not get the ci4 chrony. The spool corrodes in brackish/salt. No matter how great you take care of it.

Core 100's are dc. The 50mg7 is not.

13 Fishing Concept. The reel is the tits. Check it out.

If you pull apart a 13 reel it has very similar internals to an okuma. Just saying its no shimano. They all feel pretty good when new.

How do Lews hold up in saltwater?
|
I have a Curado I and the Chronarch. No issues so far.

My ci4 chron was making noise on its maiden voyage. Always been a shimano guy. I'm about to get a core then stock up on the chron 50e.

Ive owned nothing but Lews reels for the passed 5 years. They have done great for me. And i abuse the hell out of em... rarely stored inside... i may remember to rinse them out once every 5 or 6 trips... I have had to return one of them to academy bc of an anti reverse issue. but academy swapped it out no questions asked.

Looks like its gunna be between lew's and the 13 fishing concept. Curado's seem to have a lot of bad reviews . I didn't ever hear of 13 concept and never owned a lew's much less knew they make a saltwater reel so thank you all for your responses. I dropped $179.99 apiece for 2 revo's when they came out and first time out one broke and I came to realize don't even get near salt air with them. They're great in fresh but I learned if it don't say salt approved there's a reason.

Why not go old school and use a shimano Calcutta?

I fish 90% saltwater and havent had any issues with mine... they have even been dropped a few times in the water while wading and surf fishing. After i wade or surf fish i do make sure i rinse them with fresh water when i get home tho.

$200.00 less saltwater baitcaster???
Bought 2 Chronarch 50E's last year and they have become my favorite reels. I have a Core 100MG that gave me problems after the first few trips. Sent it back to Shimano and haven't tested it out since I got it back. I bought one of the Curado I's(only bc I got it for $140) this summer but haven't even tried it out yet. I have about 6 Curado 200E's and really like those too but they aren't lasting like they used to either.
Hear great things about Lews but they just don't feel good in my hand. Too bulky and cheap feeling. |
I demoed the new Curado a couple weeks ago loved em so much I went bought two last Friday.
