Honda 300

I use my four wheeler on a near day to day basis, I just put a new battery on it fully charged and 1 week later it had no charge, it has a kick start and I don't mind using it but now my ride doesn't want to run. My questions are, why won't this new battery hold a charge? Is the dead battery causing it not to run? Will it run with out a fully charged battery or do I have another problem?

Might want to check your wiring. If you have any cuts on the wires, it could be draining the battery and you not know it. Also did you let your acid sit for the right amount of time before you put her on the 4 wheeler? And the last thing I have for you, if all that is fine you might just want to buy a trickle charger and plug her in when not using it. I think advanced auto sells them for like $30 bucks

I let the acid sit for over an hour trying to get it to completely drain out and it wasn't happening so I poked a hole in each cell let it drain and put it directly on the charger, I'm guessing this is one of those things I should have followed the directions on lol

The batteries they sell now days for four wheelers are junk. I bought on last year and six months later it was dead and would not hold a charge. I bought a new battery on Monday, followed the directions, and it would never charge. Exchanged it yesterday and this battery seems to be working. For now anyway.

Yea I agree with the batteries being garbage. You might pay extra but you might want to check on getting the same battery that came in Ole girl. That's what I did when mine died. I have a 2007 grizzly. Battery went out 2 years ago and I bought the same one that came in her from the Yamaha shop. And she has been fine ever since. But I do keep the battery on a trickle charger when I'm not using her

You think the battery dying like that would affect the way it runs, or would that be a seperate fuel problem? The battery is completely dead to the point that my neutral light doesn't come on

I was having same problems with Napa batteries I ordered batteries for all three my bikes on eBay $35 a piece haven't had a problem since.

j.e.hagen 11-27-2014 02:14 PM

That's cheap I wish I had done the same, but I did just find a connection that was corroded and literally came apart when I touched it. So now I'm in the process of charging the battery back up and hoping for the best

Check your rectifier/regulator

Sounds like your rectifier/regulator might be bad, this would prevent your battery from charging. You can check it with a voltage meter, the rectifier/regulator is small and square with fins and located underneath your back rack. A regulator regulates the voltage, preventing overcharging of the electrical system and the rectifier converts the AC current form the alternator, into DC current for use on a battery system.
