I think I have a Tackle Addiction

2 Attachment(s)
I was fishing one day and started looking for a bait. After about 30 minutes I remembered I left what I was looking for in the back seat of my truck. At that point I had pretty much every piece of tackle I owned out on the deck of the boat. They weren't biting and I was solo so I decided to organize it. The funny thing is I really only use a few differnt baits for the most part. Why do I have all this crap? Am I the only one that buys lures I will probably never use? Before I discovered saltwater wraps this stuff used to be a nightmare to keep track of. I thought only bass fisherman had this problem. Please tell me I am not crazy.

spotchasin 12-05-2014 05:24 AM

Not at all. I always go to the store to get one lure and end up spending about $100 on various other tackle.

Gottogo49 12-05-2014 07:03 AM

That's pretty good, I have a whole room of stuff that I may never use but that about the amount of gear that I usually bring on a fishing trip. Whats a saltwater wrap? I probably need one of those too. Did I mention that I have about twice that much freshwater tackle. No doubt I could sink the boat if I tried to bring it all on one trip. A burned out bridge trip is one that requires both fresh and saltwater gear. Maybe that's why I fish alone most of the time, there is no room for someone else. I can't understand those guys who say " All I ever fish with is a **** and I always catch all the fish that I need." Where is the fun in that. Well Mr Marque, I hope that there is not a cure for our addiction, that's half of the fun.

These things. I have 5 of them for my soft plastics seperated by brand. I have two for my matrix baits which I tend to use more than any other soft plastic one for shad one for vortex. They work well for anything that doesn't have a hook exposed. They are compact and you can see what you're looking for.

If I stop by a gas station on the way to fishing, I HAVE to buy some sort of fishing tackle and usually just use one or two baits anyways, not sure what that disease is called:spineyes:

what type of boat is that Marque?

AubreyLaHaye458 12-05-2014 08:38 AM

I feel bad going to a store that sells baits and walking out with nothing. Just ask the ladies at Cajun Tackle

That's my old boat. It was an Alumacraft SC MV 2072. Floated in about 5" or 6" inches of water. It was big, wide and flat. Horrible in a chop but great in the marsh. I miss it.

Thats funny. Did I mention I was fishing solo that day. What do you call it when you are alone and have 6 rod and reels locked and loaded?

I end up using 3 or 4 "confidence" baits in the end, but every time I go out, I struggle with fitting as much tackle on my kayak as possible!

It's definitely a disease, and we all have it, but at least it probably won't kill us.

Probably.

Yeah really. Just multiply every pack of soft plastics in that pic by 4.00$ Not to mention the plugs and topwater. The gulp is old, I have gotten away from it but keep a few packs just in case. What is hard to see is the double decker plano in there with nothing but swim baits. Every color I have ever seen. I don't even want to know what I have spent on that.

thats what drives me nuts fishing in my yak!! not enough room for all the crap i try to bring. Then I almost fall out trying to dig for something I stashed way in the back

You are a victim of a common misconception....there is no such condition as a "tackle addiction". There are, however, some fisherman that suffer from a condition that causes them to be so miserly as to not be able to accumulate what is commonly considered an adequate amount of fishing tackle.

I'm honestly impressed . . . I thought I had a lot of tackle, but you have more in your boat than I have both in the boat and at home!

Sounds like Patrick McManus logic.

I do have a couple of wraps stuffed with freshwater worms of all sorts, didn't realize that they are called wraps.

One of the fishing show hosts once said that a man should have a least one rod and reel for every pair of shoes that his wife has.
Even so it is wise not to make a big show about it.
Just let it be our own private mantra.

The sad part is that's not all of it, its just all of it that I can find. God forbid I get the chance to go fishing with someone else and don't get a chance to run by my boat. Well, I sure as hell am not going to trust that the person I am fishing with is going to have what I need. To most of my friends dead shrimp on the bottom or under a cork is a perfectly acceptable way to catch a fish. There's nothing wrong with that if it floats your boat, it just doesn't excite me all that much. Fishing with market bait makes me feel like I hunting cattle in a feedlot. So I will no doubt drop 40 or 50 bucks on the minimum amount of artificial bait for me to convince myself I am properly equipped. I got issues.

Clampy 12-05-2014 01:01 PM

If you guys would like to start a support group. I would join. :)

Bdub 12-05-2014 08:26 PM

I have the same problem although I've been learning to control the addiction. There are really only so many baits you NEED. Soft plastic, suspending, and topwater. Pic 3 different colors for each style and maybe a couple different variances and you're golden. Spend more time fishing and less time worrying about what they wanna eat...Those confidence baits are a killer..

They were called worm bags when they came out 20 years ago.

I've been told I need an intervention :-/ ha

tngbmt 12-06-2014 02:01 PM

you need multiply that addiction by a few digits to compensate for my offshore gears .. the equipment is outrageous (stella & synit can put you in the dog house and i have a collection issue), poppers or swim bait starts at $40 and my jig box is at least 120lbs of lead.

and then i have inshore gears addiction like we all suffer

I haven't been bit by the by that bug but I have a feeling its coming. I have a few cobia jigs, but nothing too out of control. The chronarchs I use for trout and reds are more than the Takota's I use for snapper/aj. I use a Curado EJ for cobia. I don't know how people fish with flippy floppys (spinning reels) much less drop a grand on one. If you have a Stella Collection, my mirror on the wall tells me you are the sickest of us all.

Baits catch more people than people catch fish

That is fact

I catch from 4000 -5000 fish a year on two types of plastic and two types of hard baits and that's it ,

Dude. I need those broken back corkys. How much? 😊

Marque 12-08-2014 08:32 PM

I dont have any broke back, just bend the tail down. Never seen a broke back.

LPfishnTIM 12-08-2014 11:00 PM

I use to buy tons of crap, I have two big rubbermaid containers full of baits one is bass baits and the other is saltwater tackle. I have probably bought less than $50 of tackle in the last two years. I got to the point where if I can't catch fish on the baits I have then they're not biting! I could probably of bought a nice boat with the money I use to spend on fishing gear.

bobo23 12-09-2014 06:11 AM

That's an impressive collection of baits. All in one boat, at one time.

jpeff31787 12-09-2014 08:10 AM

looks like us.. except we just have academy bags full of different baits stashed throughout the boat :(

RichWentFishing504 12-09-2014 09:34 AM

I use these bags. Just chunk the plastics bag in here. No need to pull stuff out and organize. The large one first two rows of 6 comfortably and I've been known to cram more in.
