New boat!

Bought a 1652 marsh special from lake area marine. It want be long I'll be done with the break in period. I didn't realize the deference from my old 48" bottom and a 52" bottom untill I walked around in it!
Big thanks goes out to Cajun Christian for the ideas on setting the boat up. I was able to break the 36mph mark this morning. The hole shot is unreal with the 40 Tohatsu 4 stroke. I have a tach coming Monday to see what RPM I'm turning.

I love the way that thing is set up man. I am looking for somehting kinda like that myself right now. I been looking for microskiffs but this may be the ticket. Hope you enjoy it.

latex 12-07-2014 04:43 PM

Thanks Marque. I looked at micro skiff for the last 3 years,I just didn't see enough boat for the price of most. I did like the Ankona skiffs they are sweet rigs.

Hydro 12-07-2014 05:26 PM

Git-er-dun !!! Hold on tight now :-)

Marque 12-07-2014 06:16 PM

I have a bay boat, but miss fishing way back in marsh. So I am not looking to spend a whole lot, but I guess those things are in demand because some of them cost as much as an offshore boat. I may go the carolina skiff route. I came across a microskiff called a Skimmer Skiff thats kinda reasonable but they only offer a 14' hull. My a$$ is way to big to go running a round the marsh on a surf board. Me and one of my brothers get in that thing we'd flip it. I could deal with a 15' or 16' but haven't located one in my price range. A used Ankona is the closets thing and its still twice what I want to pay. I can justify spending more on something like your rig because it can do so much more. Definitely a nice new toy you got there.

Marque 12-07-2014 06:20 PM

Is Marsh Special the name of the hull or model?

scott craft 12-07-2014 07:01 PM

That's a good looking boat and good speeds for a rig that size.

The tag on the back just has 1652 marsh. Not sure why we call it marsh special.

amiller72 12-07-2014 10:08 PM

The hull is made by Alweld, marsh special is the model. I have a 1648 with the tldi 40 and can touch 40mph with just me in it. Flat out love my boat and sure you will too Latex.

Salt Marsh Skiffs might suit you a little more.

Yea man it scoots pretty good. Like I said though I can "touch" 40mph, drops to 36-37 with two people and full gear. Which is plenty fast enough for me.

Because it is Gerald Links design from Lake Area. It is a "Marsh Special" model manufactured by AlWeld boats.

What's everyone's thoughts on cutting a port hole on the front side of the rear seat for extra storage?

I have done something similar for decades. I get Joe at Southside to cut the top passenger side of my bench seat out, bout 24" from gunnel towards the center the full depth of the bench. He then adds structure under there to support weight now that the seat has been compromised. He bends a tight fitting lid and welds a continuous hinge on the front side so it doesn't fly open while underway. I usually put one of my batteries there along with a ton of various and assorted necessities for boating.

marshrunner757 12-09-2014 12:51 PM

I'm thinking one long cutout in the middle front side or two smaller ones (one either side) for storage and battery. Haven't even bought the boat yet, just planning ahead.

The middle is open under the back deck. Lots of space !!!

marshrunner757 12-19-2014 04:39 PM

I just left Lake Area Marine. Kyle pretty much has me sold on the alweld 1648 Basic Marsh Special. Not as loaded as the marsh special but a very nice boat.

Well guys, day before I was going to buy the marsh special, found a deal I couldn't pass up. 2007 1650 xpress. Nearly mint condition.

latex 12-29-2014 09:53 PM

Sweet! I like the push pole platform.

marshrunner757 12-29-2014 11:03 PM

Yea, bolts on with 6 bolts so it's easy to take off and put on.

simplepeddler 12-30-2014 07:12 AM

Happy for you!

It should scoot pretty good, esp if you take off the poling platform.

marshrunner757 12-30-2014 08:34 AM

Poling platform will be used when needed. Not going to leave it on all the time.

I saw you pulling out at Anthony Ferry today. I was in the blue boat pulling up when you left. Sweet looking boat. It would look great with a center console and leaning post.

marshrunner757 12-31-2014 10:57 PM

Yea. I saw y'all. Just dropped it in the water for a few quick passes. Y'all do any good today?

saute86 01-01-2015 12:30 AM

I wasnt fishing I was looking for mushrooms. Only found 5 pounds.

saute86 01-01-2015 12:34 AM

How did it run. It looks fast with that merc on the back. Be careful you dont put it in the trees up there.

Haha. Boat runs really good. Gotta get my seats in. My butt can't grab that painted bench seat very well. Motor was a little low so brought home and adjusted. I think it'll run as good or better than the old marshrunner I had it on which I topped out at 52. Waiting on aluminum for floor to come it so I can get that 3/4 plywood outta there too.
