Bass fishing in a a bay boat
How many of you guys bass fish out of a bay boat? I would like to get into bass fishing. Dont know much about it. What do i need bait wise. My boat has been sitting since september -October [emoji35]. so looking to do a some fresh water fishing bass bream sac.
I've been to henderson in my boat but what about lake martin in a 21st boat? |
I don't see why not. Those bass boats draft about 14-15".
|
You would be surprised at the big boats that people run wide open in Lake Martin. Buddy puts his Whaler in there all the time when the mudcats start running in April. Gotta watch out for them tour guides though, they think they own the lake.
|
all you need is some bullet weights, extra wide gap worm hooks, zoom speed craws, brush hogs, worms, and some humdinger spinnerbaits! the only colors i fish with are watermelon red, junebug, black/blue and tequila sunrise. I just use med/hvy 7ft rods.

Bass fished out of my 22' Pathfinder for years, fish didn't care :smokin:

There are lots of people on Toledo Bend who use bay boats there.

Do it all the time. Like Pull n Pray mentioned Toledo gets rough. Nice to not get wet when the lake is rough.

Fished twice on Toledo this year out of a 24ft skeeter bay. Fish didn't mind a bit. If you have a shallow water anchor, I would actually prefer them to sight fish out of.

Bay boats in the bend are awesome. you can get em in some shallow water too. |
Don't bay boat blow around in the wind a lot more than bass boats? And bass boats aren't set up for 14 rods at arms length either.
|
I have an 20' Xpress CC which I use to bass fish...it doesn't haven't the storage or the larger front deck of a bass boat, but It works for me at Toledo and Lake Fork when the big waves kick up. Then nice to pull the kids tubing in the summer.
|
The boat just gets you there and back safely.
What happens when you are there is up to you. I've done most of my best bass fishing from a canoe. A bay boat is a great choice for the larger lakes and reservoirs. I never saw the use of bass boats for fishing. |
No you can not fish freshwater from a bay boat, and if you decide just to bass fish you we be required to get a bass boat come on everyone knows that.

Bass boats are used for getting to and from your fishing spot as fast as possible. lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A lot of the 21 footers handle chop really well too though. But as soon as you think that you spear a wave goin 60 mph. lol |

Never seen a bay boat with one what? Rod storage up front? Deck space for hook sets on bass? Room for TM controls? This tread is out of hand |

Alpha, take this post and roll with it - watch for stumps and make sure you have insurance that covers a lower unit getting ripped off if you plan to fish Henderson a lot though. |

Ive got front electronics on my Haynie, I fish toledo, henderson and streeters out of it....ive got buddies that dont want to put there bass boats in saltwater so in my opinion a good setup bay boat is the best of both worlds.

No reason you can't bass fish from a bay boat. I have taken my 22' Ranger to the spillway to bring some large items to the houseboat, and fished out of it. The main reason the bass boat is better for it's intended purpose is maneuverability, the speed is secondary but nice.
That being said, if I only could have one boat it would be a bay boat with a foot control trolling motor. I will never put my bass boat in the saltwater, I do fish out of Venice in the bass boat but don't go far enough south to worry about the salt. |
Nothing wrong with bass fishing from a bay boat, does not cause any disadvantage. It's actually great because I can fish big lake and Toledo all from the same boat instead of having two separate boats. Only time I would buy a bass boat is if I get a camp on Toledo to avoid having to pull a boat back and forth every time

Well guys I think we have hit a new low on stupid and annoying questions.
Congrats. |
Bass Boats = Bass
Bay Boats = Trout and Reds |
An SCB with a 300 would work well as a bay/bass boat!
|
Fishing pole + hook = fish😆
Water+boat=float😉 |
So i'm still not sure if you can actually use a bay boat for bass fishing. I think more discussion is necessary at this point.

Yes. Some seem to think its not cool to bass fish in a bay boat. Lol |
I don't know how well a bay boat would maneuver in the flooded timber of Toledo Bend! I do blow by them quite regularly in my bass boat when the lake is calm! They take me when the lake is rough!
|
I was concerned about the draft. Doesn't Bay boats push more water.
|
Not sure if serious...

Duck Boats = Ducks
Offshore Boats = snapper and tuna Haynie Boats = wood |
Been bass fishing out of a bay boat for years. Sure it catches more wind but once you get used to it with a good trolling motor it is no problem.
|
Note to self....NOT kool to bass fish from Bay boat:eek:...:*****:
