Catch lots of redfish in those areas. As stated, there is a lot of that area private but plenty of area to fish.

rustyb 02-25-2015 04:23 PM

Marty Saw some guys fishing the drains coming out of the marsh catching redfish. But I don't know that area.

just to the left of where it says Black Lake is silver due to the trout

marty f 02-25-2015 06:15 PM

OK so some of this area is private, but how would one know? Never been there just don't want to be some place I'm not welcomed. I mean how would every day Joe know, with out ever being there, what's off limits?

Clampy 02-25-2015 06:17 PM

Be careful if you go in black lake. Lots of lower unit killers in there.

Stumps? Rocks? Oyster reefs?

Clampy 02-25-2015 06:21 PM

Pilings, very shallow areas, very shallow oyster reefs in some spots.

Clampy 02-25-2015 06:22 PM

Those drains on the ditch usually hold reds and flounder

marshrunner757 02-25-2015 06:24 PM

There's a little of everything out there. Plenty of oysters. As far as knowing the boundaries? Well, that comes with experience. For the most part, no signs. Someone will roll up in an air boat, give you one of W's famous figure 8's while threatening you. Then you know it's private lol.

mriguy 02-25-2015 07:36 PM

Lots of reds, only been kicked out once

jl8200 02-25-2015 09:53 PM

I've been up in there and caught some reds and I barely know what im doing so...

"W" 02-25-2015 10:17 PM

If you don't know black lake don't go , because lots of stuff you can smoke your motor on ..

Real high tide is worst but low tides can also cause damage

Haha. Surely he didn't do that on purpose...[emoji16]

Cripley 02-26-2015 08:37 AM

Just go a little slower for sure but if you stay out of the actual Black lake area you can do plenty fishing without getting in a bind. I fished this area alot when i was younger we would run our aluminum boat to salt ditch and fish all the pipes and cuts caught plenty redfish in there.

fixed it for you..I wasnt sure what you were talking about. Its not too bad but I wouldnt reccomend running it at 40 mph unless you know where youre going

Gerald 02-26-2015 12:32 PM

Only one time did I run Kelso bayou to the west trying to get to Black Lake.

Never did find where to make a turn to the north to get to the lake. Every cut to the north looked very shallow. I think I went a couple of miles, but maybe I turned around too soon.

Maybe looking on Google earth and using my GPS would get me there from Kelso bayou.

Thanks, going off of what Google Maps had it labeled.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but if there are not any "no trespassing or private property" signs, markers, fences, etc. on a public waterway then even if you are caught supposedly trespassing it is not enforceable in a court of law. If a landowner is not doing his due diligence to build a levy or post it properly, it is assumed public waterways.

Yeah good luck with that. There is no longer a requirement in Louisiana for landowners to post signs. It is definitely enforceable.

Bumfisherman 02-26-2015 10:03 PM

On land yes but good luck getting it to hold up on water.

There are numerous cases and a few articles that explain it pretty good, but I have received criminal trespassing charges for tying up to a pump station on Toledo Bend and accessing marsh east of Fourchon, LA. I assumed navigable waters where any waters in which your vessel would float and you could transit... I was way off.

If what is water used to be land back in the early 1800's it is still private property in Louisiana

The real definition of navigable waters has something to do with waterways defined as used for commerce. And that's based on old outdated charts and maps. Not just if you can float a boat in it. But I'm sure we all agree that its time for laws to be updated in Louisiana.

I know a Two people who had to pay heavy fines to stay out of jail over this property

Yes trespassing is serious business with these guys !!

The ditch/black area

Since 2003 it's your responsibility to know if your on private property. You can't claim ignorance. You can and will be hauled off if the landowner calls the law on you.
