Probably real. Indian River gives up bigger trout than anywhere else in the country. I believe he was with a captain that catches giant fish pretty often.

the report says he was on a guided trip fishing a river but he is not shown on a boat so that's very odd? this is something that puts your guide business on easy street so there was nothing to advertise his guide business in the background when taking a picture with such a record fish? would any capt here miss such an opportunity to showcase his business?

Looks like a catfish body with a trout head. I'm not buying it.

I'm no expert....but I feel like if the IGFA is gonna go on record saying that it is what it is then it's probably legit.

all I know is, if this guide hasn't lied and he does catch 3 ft specks regularly then I need to go fish in that river too.

It still doesn't sit right with me that all you would need is for a capt to call IGFA and say he witnessed this or that, and make a record breaking claim.

if that is all it takes, well that would greatly lower my opinion on the authenticity of any of the IGFA records.

I seriously doubt that IGFA is just handing out a record without more proof than the details that are shared in an article.

Just because we've only seen one photograph, I highly doubt that was the only one taken. If you take them at their word, they had a measuring apparatus to be able to record the measurement in the first place, so perhaps photos have been sent with the measured fish?

Who knows what's true? All I'm saying is the jury is still out. Don't be so quick to render a verdict.
