New Boat 2009

3 Attachment(s)
Been Boat shopping and will pick one of the three!!! Looks like I should have one 1st week of Oct... :D

Xpressboat908 05-30-2009 02:13 PM

Not sure what brand boat the 3rd pic is. I would go with the Triton over the Skeeter. I know someone who as the 24'LTS and it is a nice boat. I recently traded in my Xpress HD22B for the X22B which has the hyper-lift hull. I took it out to the Mardi Gras rigs this week out of Dularge and it cuts 2' waves like a fiberglass. I was very impressed with the ride. The dry weight of the X22B is 1,700 lbs which is more than most 22' fiberglass boats. It is made of .125" thick alum and it has a V. Not sure what length boat you are looking at but from the pictures it looks like 18-20' range. I would get at least a 21'. One last thing do yourself a favor and get the 4 stroke. I had an HPDI on my last boat nice motor but you cannot compared it to the 4 stroke Yamaha. I will never own a 2 stroke again. They are very quite motors. Also I put a jack plate on my new boat at right at 6K rpms with three in the boat it does 50 on the GPS.

flounder_smacker 05-30-2009 02:34 PM

deff go with the yamaha fourstroke on your bay boat. since most of the transoms on bay boats now are 25 you really dont have the choice of running the vmax only the 200 hpdi. that skeeter 20 has a 20inch transom i believe. if weight is an issue and you like to float shallower then get the hpdi. just dont get a merc. or even worse an etec. if you got that lake and bay id like to see the 250vmaxseries2 on her. would you be able to get to the weirs real quick lol.

"W" 05-30-2009 02:35 PM

The bottom one is a LAKE & Bay....Kind of high priced but whatever I buy should last me 10 years.... Triton is my #1 right now just have to add a Yahmamy to the back!!

LittleRob 05-30-2009 02:39 PM

W what ya gonna ask for your boat PM me

Xpressboat908 05-30-2009 02:42 PM

It may be hard to get a Yamaha with a Triton since they are owned by Brunswick which owns MERC if I am not mistaken.

I know one dealership that will put a Yamaha on!!! Im not rolling with a merc...Not a Four stoke!!! Yamaha is the best on the market for 4 stoke.

Xpressboat908 05-30-2009 02:56 PM

Have you looked at Black Jacks? If I would ever get a fiberglass I would get a Black Jack or a Blazer Bay.

LaAngler 05-30-2009 03:21 PM

out of those three, i would get a lake and bay and never look back........

i'm guessing the backwater 20 is a lot more money than the 20 skeeter/triton

what about a 20 bay ranger?

JigSlinger 05-30-2009 03:31 PM

W, a ol' friend of mine, Earl Bentz started Triton,,he had previously started Hydra-Sport and Stratos then sold out to another major marine company...He builds a great boat,,just hope the new owners carry-forward his ethic..!!

LaAngler 05-30-2009 04:12 PM

i think two other good boats that are overlooked are Cobia (made by pathfinder now)
and hydrasports (made by genmar who makes ranger and champion)

they make a 19, looks like a flats boat on steroids

My good friend has a Blackjack I fish out of a lot. I really don’t want anything over 21ft because I don’t need anything that big. I also haul my boat a lot and don’t want the extra weight! 20-21 foot is about all I want!!!
Bruce I can get that 20ft Lake and Bay for a little bit more than the Triton!!

killa k 05-30-2009 05:51 PM

"W" I thought you was gonna get one them boats with no sides

yes indeed they are...tahatsu has the 2 stroke though hands down. that mega was best ever made!!

Low 05-30-2009 07:35 PM

W, have you looked at the Frontier? Bill Kenner's K2 marine puts out the BlackJack and Frontier. The Frontier is not as expensive as the BlackJack.

Salty 05-30-2009 07:51 PM

W, it seems you are satisfied with the boat you have. Why not just get a bigger one?

Yea I looked at those also!!!

flounder_smacker 05-30-2009 08:49 PM

you can order a triton without the motor and put whatever you want. w you looked at the blazer bays? get that 22 pro with the 250vmax sweet boat and not that heavy. check this one out. could save a lot of money buying second hand.

Thats kind of high priced for an 2006???? With a V Max??? That is a nice boat!!!

LaAngler 05-30-2009 11:06 PM

i can see the logic in selecting the Yamaha F150 first, then a boat to go with it. the 250's burn too much gas.

if i got the L & B i would get a merc 250XS on it, OG status

i think a 225 will push it 70, but you don't want a heavy sluggish 4 stroke on a L & B

that boat new is around 42. you could probably talk him down some the boat has been on the market for a couple of months, but it is a texan selling it so you might be in trouble. angler my buddy got a 250xs and has had it for just over a year and has changed the power head and lower unit on it already. was under warranty but when that 2 year warranty goes out hes in a bind.

LaAngler 05-30-2009 11:22 PM

the newer opti's seem to have a better rep after 2003, could it just be the operator or a lemon?

i like that blazer, good thing about the 22 foot length is the ability to stretch to the next wave better than the 20's, better offshore.

just think W, you'll be able to make it from heberts to the weirs in 2 minutes at 70+ and beat all the bay boats there.

I know if we was in that boat that day me, you, and chris went to big lake..... one of us would have went swimming weather we liked it or not..

Xpressboat908 05-31-2009 08:49 PM

I would not get a boat that is 20'. If you are worried about pulling it most 20' boat come with a single axle trailer where most 22' come with tandem trailer. Trust me you will not be able to tell the difference plus the ride will be a heck of a lot better in a 22' compared to a 20" and you can fish 3 people.

Of your 3 choices......

Skeeter doesn't build a 16ft model so that's out......

Triton only builds this one
http://www.tritonboats.com/boatImage...Image_342..jpg

And here is the smallest Lake and Bay, not a 16ft, but close...
http://www.lakeandbayboats.com/image...mpetitor-1.jpg
I think all of them are out of your price range......:*****::*****::*****:

Salty 06-01-2009 09:54 AM

Now, I'm serious here! Does that look like "W" in the Triton...or what?

LaAngler 06-01-2009 09:56 AM

i dont know if i like those sit down to drive bay boats, i think a bay boat needs a leaning post

yes that does look like w

i'd take that little lake and bay over every other boat in this thread except the backwater 20

Salty 06-01-2009 09:57 AM

He musta quit using Curados.

LaAngler 06-01-2009 10:12 AM

you got a race boat with a trollin motor, not a bay boat

the fishing tourny is sat, your chance to beat w

I have a real tourney Friday and Saturday.....

Already knocking a boat you haven't been in..... Why don't you stop drinking the KoolAid and try it before you knock it......

The ones with seats ride better.... They are even putting them on the burn boats.... I'll post up a pic of the SCB Stingray I ran this weekend...

My avatar looks like one of them "Fishin' Buddy" rigs that you sail out to the fishin' spot and drop a line.
