Lacassine newbee!

I'll be fishing Lacassine for the first time come Tuesday. What are some things I need to look out for or some unwritten rules I need to be aware of. I plan on getting to the launch around 7:30-8 to try and avoid some of the chaos. Thanks for the help.

meat killer 86 03-14-2016 06:29 AM

Rule number one. Be careful not to run into someone's boat because there will be a bunch of people.
Rule number 2 have fun and be safe

I usually give it about 2 weeks for the crowd to die down. Although this yr will be different. I have to work for the first 2 months of it being open. In which case I may not even fish it this yr.
big bass are bedding and a new wave of fish will move up and spawn next week with the full moon. Good luck!!

I wont be able to make it until the following week due to an outage at work! From what i have heard there have been fish on beds in there for almost a month now. Hopefully most of the big girls will have already spawned out so we dont have 100 ppl keeping 2-3 5+lb fish the first week.

You'd think they would have in place some sort of size rule.. But then again like I've read a thousand times ....." Lac pool is not there for bass fishing, it's for the ducks , bass is just another way to bring in people"

Well heck if you have such a good fishery why not monitor it a little more ... But , with all these people supposedly keeping fish there must be some that stay because year after year it's a hog fest when it opens up haha

For years BLM has fought and lobbied over this issue but Lacassine refuses to listen or change the management focus which is Ducks.

Finally got a boat that can go in the place! I'm looking forward to seeing what it has to offer this year soon!

I've fished out of a yak before for bass in the non-motorized pool, but how's the white perch fishing out there? Got an older guy I work with who has a little boat that wants to catch brim and sacs. He usually fishes Sabine a lot and his camp is gone pecan after the flood

probably ate... saw a guy at indian creek showing me an 8lb bass and telling me how good it was going to be for supper... All I could do was shake my head

Top Dawg 03-15-2016 08:10 PM

8#er I caught in toledo last weekend ate good. Course I only ate one side. Saving the other side for turkey camping next week.

Montauk17 03-15-2016 08:41 PM

Is the bank fishing any good out there? Don't have a boat small enough to launch.

Haha people complain about that every year, yet every year tona of big fish come out of there. Seems to me like it doesn't matter if people keep em or not.

For real. Either keep em now and eat em or throw em back for the gators for the next drought.

I understand that nature takes care of itself. I just can't imagine myself taking a fillet knife to a 6+ lb. largemouth and making that first cut. That's just me, though. To each his own. Fish on! I'm not judging.

The bank fishing can be pretty decent at times man.... Ive always did better during the week tho. Weekends tend to get a lil crowded. Either way its beautiful scenery tho.

I have also noticed that ppl kill alot of big fish out there... and Yes it still seems to be slap full of toads... but common sense will tell you that these fish dont get that big very quickly. So at some point it will go to **** again. like it did a few years ago.

Top Dawg 03-16-2016 07:05 AM

It went south because of droughts. No other reason.

Always helpful to kill the big females.... smh...

Top Dawg 03-16-2016 07:23 AM

Had to cut the guts open to confirm it was a female. Eggs ate good too.

How do you ever expect nature to replenish the artificially stocked pool when you're raping the resources? Somebody call Will Drost.

cgoods17 03-16-2016 10:40 AM

anybody have a decent report from yesterday?

falcon29 03-16-2016 10:55 AM

yep, there goes thousands of potential stock!

I forgot that fish hasn't laid millions of eggs before that point in her life.

redaddiction 03-16-2016 12:26 PM

So it's ok to keep limits of 1-2 lb bass every weekend. (Those fish also spawn by the way.) But keep 1 big fish and y'all all loose your minds with outrage? Lmao.

X 2.... It's a legal fish.

BassYakR 03-16-2016 12:35 PM

Personally i dont keep any bass.... but yes why keep a big bass? it doesnt taste as good as a smaller one... and your taking a female than can lay 5x the amount of Eggs out of the water... And a Female with the Genetics to Grow very large. Its simple IMO... but luckily this place seems to have good fish even with the amount thats taken out. Could you imagine the amout of big fish it would have if ppl didnt tho. You would see 4-5 5lb+ fish per trip... But hey Just kill em all i guess...

B-Stealth 03-16-2016 12:49 PM

BLM is watching this thread closely, better watch out.

Exactly! And before anybody claims we don't have any sound science or biological proof to back up our claims, just know that we don't give a $hit about science. We just care about protecting big fish.

BassYakR 03-16-2016 01:06 PM

I dont know anyone who goes fishing.... that wouldnt prefer to catch bigger fish.... your post doesnt make much sense to me...

noodle creek 03-16-2016 01:12 PM

The genetics are the same when a fish is 10lb as they are when the fish is 1lb

When that same fish is 1lb and 10lb yes... but the genetics of each fish is totally different... just like anything else

Where is any outrage? I scrolled back and found none.

I do apologize for accidentally derailing the original poster's thread, and didn't mean to stir up the beaten-to-death topic of what each fisherman chooses to do with the fish he catches.

Top Dawg 03-16-2016 01:36 PM

I got a homemade hook I rigged up that is almost 100% on snagging big ones off the beds.

Might as well put the rods up. All you need is a bow fishing rig. Maybe a nice gaff with an extension perhaps? Hell, make it a harpoon. Better yet, just rig you something where you can shock the fish and troll up to her, scoop her right up and throw her on ice.
