New Boat

1 Attachment(s)
I sold my Blazer Bay a few weeks ago and my Robalo came in late last week. They are in the process of rigging it so it should be ready for pickup either late tomorrow or early Friday. I took a little different direction with this boat. The girls are getting older and we seem to ride in the lake more than fishing so I wanted something that was family friendly but still something I could fish out of without issues.

Here are a few details:
Robalo 246 Cayman
Yamaha 300
Atlas Jack plate
Lenco trim tabs
Simrad NSS9 evo2
Airmar B150 thru hull transducer
LSS2 transducer
Minn Kota I-Pilot 112

Latravcha,
You did not by chance do a comparison of the Robolo against the Everglades did you? If you did, what did you think? I am completely at a loss as to which one I want to go with next... Actually it is between three boats right now:

>Everglades 243 Center Console
>Robolo 226 Cayman
>Tidewater 2500 Carolina Bay

I am a Tidewater fan simply because I currently own one, but also their customer service is amazing and the price is very reasonable. Their new 2500 Carolina Bay does not ride like a normal Bay Boat, it has a smoother ride more like a deep "V" or Everglades 255 Hybrid.

jpeff31787 03-24-2016 11:33 AM

whenever you get some more pics post them! I'd love to see the interior!

latravcha 03-24-2016 12:53 PM

I compared the Robalo to the Everglades very closely. Bent Marine had them side by side in their showroom.
The fit and finish on the Everglades was much better than the Robalo but had a 110,000 price tag without all of the options I wanted.
The everglades does not have a casting deck in the front.
The Robalo is a foot wider than the everglades.
In general the Robalo was a much larger boat with more options.
Don't get me wrong I really liked the everglades, that was the boat I originally wanted, but in the end the Robalo was 30K less with more room and options.

You will enjoy that!!!
Dang boats have gone out of site!! Payed 19,000 for my 24 foot in 2001 and 100,000 for my 32 foot offshore boat with twin 250 fore strokes. in 2003 Why are boats getting so over priced?? Don't mean to hijack your post.

latravcha 03-24-2016 02:41 PM

Had a 4 page discussion on that on THT. Basically boils down to because people who want a boat will pay that price.

Visco 03-24-2016 02:46 PM

Thanks for the input. I just put the Rabalo as a close second. I need to ride in that one before deciding on the Rabalo or Tidewater. The only thing about the Tidewater is how the wiring is run in there boats... Not as good as I would like it.

Again, thanks for advice and sweet boat you have there.

Go to Bent marine and ask for Josh Clement. Strait forward guy. You can compare the Robalo and Everglades side by side. I still love the Everglades just can't justify the price difference.

Let me know if you want to go for a ride. Not many caymans running South Louisiana.

Thanks again for the help... will stop by Bent Marine soon and talk to Josh.

Next time you head out to do some fishing and need someone to go with let me know?

FYI I have caught my limit of trout the last two times I went. I fish mostly out of Myrtle Grove or Port Sulphur and you're more than welcome to come down here as well... I am usually fishing by my self.

skeeter77346 03-25-2016 06:58 AM

Very sharp. Congrats on the new ride. Sweet color combo.

calcutta37 03-25-2016 07:05 PM

Have any of you guys looked at or been in a Rambo 27. I have been looking at them for a few years. Would love to ride in one but don't think there's one in Louisiana. Man builds them 1 at a time and however you want it.

Nice sled

Nice boat. I wondered what you where going to do after I saw your Blazer bay for sale.

I have gotten past the 2 hour break in period and cant believe how stable this boat is. It does not lean with 3 people standing on the same side. The room in the boat is also one of the first things I noticed. With the Blazer we always felt like we did not have room to move. The beam on the Robalo makes all the difference in the world. Have not had a chance to see what it rides like in rough water but did do 5 circles and cut through the middle and it was not the pounding action I'm used to.
Yamaha's break in period called for 1 hour at idle the one hour under 2,000 RPM. Then the next 8 hours to not hold at max RPM for more than 5 seconds. I got it up to max RPM and saw 48mph and she was still climbing when I pulled back. This boat will not be anywhere as fast as the Blazer but what I give up in speed will be made up for with the comfort of the boat.

Really did not want to deal with them but they are the only ones in the state that sell Robalo. My *** is still hurting from the screwing when they charged me $1,700 to install a trolling motor and a Simrad.

Nice sled!

Ouch!! Next time just drive up to my house one Saturday with a couple cases of beer and I'll save you $1600.

Visco 04-06-2016 05:37 AM

Have not seen the new 2016 models... that is sweet, going to the boat show in Biloxi this weekend and I hope to see one there so that I can see the Rabolo and Tidewater side by side.

Congrats on your new sled.

swamp snorkler 04-06-2016 06:39 AM

Nice boat, haven't seen Robalos around South LA in a long time, at one time they were quite popular.

lgl001 04-06-2016 10:25 AM

Haven't seen the Robalos, but I bought my second Tidewater in August and I love it

Very nice boat!

According to the F300 manual is says to not run it full throttle for more than 5 minutes, not 5 seconds during this 8 hour period. I believe it's on page 52 in the manual. I would suggest running it up to the 5 minute mark at full throttle a few times during this phase of the break-in, or it stands a chance of making oil.

latravcha 04-07-2016 08:30 AM

OOPS yes it does. I will get my top speed the weekend then.
