Rain just hitting Pecan Island hard. Radar shows a lot more coming...I've only stopped pumping some "Pump Off" a few days since July 1st. Of course it was full to the brim then.

pricecb 08-12-2016 11:25 AM

Houma/Thiboduax is wet as ever. To bad college football hasn't started never get a chance to sit around and watch TV during football.

Quackhead62 08-12-2016 12:29 PM

Maurice is looking pretty rough too. 167 south to Abbeville has a lot of water on it.

It's been raining hard in Opelousas for about an hour and a half, almost 2 hours now. Hardest it's been all day here. Hopefully this crap fizzles out before it hits Lafayette. God knows those people don't need any more.

It's days like today that I'm extremely glad I live in the middle of a field. I have a few puddles on my property and that's it. My thoughts go out to everyone affected by the flooding. Stay safe out there.

Broke Down 08-12-2016 10:39 PM

I'm up here in the middle, we got rain for about 4 hours and it stopped. The lightning was horrible, a few trees got hit next door. I hope everyone stays safe and doesn't take risk.

jpeff31787 08-13-2016 06:47 AM

Carencro was safe until late in the night Friday. It's still coming down hard. I didn't even get an inch the whole day Friday. I haven't looked yet, but it's probably close to 4-5" now

The water isn't on 343 just in the yards and fields. Be safe heading home.

Just texted with a bud of mine who lives on Optimist Rd off E. Gloria Switch. He said that the river is supposed to come up another two feet which will cause widespread flooding in his neighborhood.

Prayers to all who are suffering from this deluge.

Gunner, he's up on the Northside of Lafayette and he's going by the measurement for Bayou Vermilion at Carencro. I would think by the time it gets down your way where the river is much wider, it won't go up nearly that much, but who knows.

I'm sure there is a benchmark somewhere downriver that you could go by to look at where they are predicting the river to crest.

wetaline 08-13-2016 01:11 PM

They launched boats off of Pinhook to rescue people in the hotel by Outback. The river has flooded that whole area.

Cappy 08-13-2016 01:21 PM

Over here in the Se the worst seems to be behind us. Tv is saying it flooded where it never did before. Thats bad. Lots of folks have water and it cant be remembered there even in old family stories. Thats real bad. I have family dry but stranded. Hope you ane yours are ok and look our Acadiana More is coming. I woke up with this ole tune in my head.

Same things happen everywhere, they building and building. All them retention ponds got to drain somewhere. That's the problem with turning pastures/ crop land into concrete hey never thank of people down streem

My home town of Colyell near Denham Springs has been hit very hard. Many of my former classmates lost their homes this weekend. It is far worse than 1983 and that was the worst flood ever for that area. I would like to go help sandbag but I can't even get there from Houston right now.

Cappy 08-13-2016 05:02 PM

We are still dry its still raining and we now a temporary island thankfully da pig is on the island and I was able to get a six pack of tall boy bushes and a family pack of chicken thighs and 3 lbs of onion kinda in the mood for sticky chicken and its still raining so let er rip.

83' is not much of a bench mark!!

But it sucks anyhow you look at it if your affected by it!!
Pry for anyone that has to go throw a flood, cause there's not much you can do!!

Water is deep here off 343 in Maurice. Hopefully we get a little break before the rain hits later tonight. Got water on the roads north south east and west can't get out unless by boat.

I hope in the aftermath it all works out the best it can ...

Jrchip1 08-14-2016 03:25 AM

03:30 AM 8/14. Look for high ground before parking. It's been raining off and on since 10:00 PM last night and solid last couple hrs.

Yes that area was hit with a lot of water. I live off 42 in Prairieville about 5 miles West of Fred"s / French Settlement and that place is under water. Luckily, where I am at the water is not bad at all in my sub division as of now. My brother lives near Runnels off of South Harrels Ferry Rd and as of about 10 last night water was coming up in has neighbor hood pretry fast. It was basically too high for him to drive out. Cell phone service seems to now be out in the BR area but not sure when it went down. I tried calling and texting. Leaving my house now to see if I can get there some kind of way.

The sun is actually out this morning at the moment.

Good luck and God Bless everyone.

I know that area really well, my first job was over in Gonzales as a teenager. Pray for everyone this flood is going to change a lot of people's lives forever.
