Tohatsu 40 4 stroke trim switch
Just picked up a 2016 model. Haven't ran it yet but the one thing I can see I don't care for is the trim switch location. Why in the world did they put it behind the throttle instead of on the end like the mercury big tiller? Is there any sort of conversion for this?

Because the switch in the end of the tiller is patented, that's why.

What size boat you putting it in?

I thought Etec is on the end also, where is the yamaha big tillers?

On the 40 tdli you can easily connect a remote switch wire from under the cowling on port side (butt connector already there) and run it to locate by your leg so as your driving and toggle up and down with right hand

Guess it's not a patent issue then. Think I'm going to wire a remote switch like I had on my mercury.

I asked our Tohatsu rep about that trim switch in the tiller, he said he "thought" is was a patent issue, maybe he guessed wrong, and I evidently repeated it wrong, sorry?

Mission accomplished today. Trim now on the side of boat where I hold on. Trim on tiller still works as well.

Well, pic is rotated but you get the idea. Ran my wire and spliced inside the tiller.

i talked to the sales rep at lake area marince in lake charles, (owners son), and he said modifying the handle could result in void of warranty... but i figure if it messes up something bad, ill just order an oem tohatsu handle and replace it before bringing it in

Fish with it for 6 months and you'll never even look at a 2 stroke again. I switched about 12 years ago, you couldn't give me a dozen 2 strokes for my 4 stroke. Makes life much too easy, turn the key and go, no choke, no revving up when cold to keep it running, no smoke, much less noise, burns 2/3 the gas, what's not to love?

It's almost idiotproof. If it overheats, it shuts itself down. And it does not care if you're in the middle of a mud flat, it shuts down.

I'm hooking a trail tach up tomorrow. Interested to see what it's turning.

38mph with a fish load is good, I would be interested in trying a 15 or 16p black stainless and get you at 6000rpm.

My 40hp Yamaha motor is headed for a rebuild and upgrade carbs, head and exhaust tomorrow. I may try to rent or buy that 16P black stainless from you. I have a 14 P black stainless now that I am already at redline with it.

I like to hit rev limiter solo

I hated the trim location on mine also. I did about the same thing but my switch is on the bench under my legs along with my jackplate switch.

Looks like you're running pretty good. Would like to try an Srd on my boat. Heard a lot of good things about them.
