Anyone turkey hunt?

Besides me?

longsidelandry 01-19-2010 02:44 PM

I've been turkey hunting once, many many years ago.

wtretrievers 01-19-2010 02:49 PM

Yes! Me & my 2 boys! & I'M READY!

Feesherman 01-19-2010 03:26 PM

Man I am ready too.

wtretrievers 01-19-2010 03:38 PM

I have couple deer stands that they've roosting by. Late in the evenings I hear em go to roost. Gets me all fired up!

Jordan 01-19-2010 03:46 PM

i got the spot this year !!!! getting my calling down pat at work too.... pisses the girls off !!!

Is it October YET? 01-19-2010 04:02 PM

This weekend will be my last for deer so I will go into gobble mode on the way home Sunday. Last weekend I saw 14 while sitting in the stand. Jeff you need to check out msdwf.com/forums and check out the turkey section.

Finfeatherfur 01-19-2010 05:11 PM

I stay in gobble mode! Just ask Duckaholic......We were on the phone an hour ago lining up our trips for this year. I hunt both Easterns and Rios and we have a new spot this year just outside Kerrville, Tx. Only rule is, you can not hunt the birds by the camp....(wink,wink)!

huntin fool 01-19-2010 06:25 PM

I would bet your lease has some Turkey. You just got to know how to hunt them.

If you need any help.............Just let me know. You bring the gun I will call them in.

We are going to have to talk one day to see exactly where your lease is located. Shawn has birds gobbling all around where he hunts so there must be turkey on your lease.

PUREBAY2200 01-19-2010 09:34 PM

I been on a few hunts.... Herd em cuttin up around me.... Seen a few... Only taken one shot and missed:(
id love to go and actually down one!!!

The terrain down there is so much different than any you've ever seen but them birds have adapted.....the hunters have not.

Other than our Easterns, I've only killed a few Rios. Them things are like shootin' fish in a barrel.

Shawn Braquet 01-20-2010 10:52 AM

gerald we are going to have to try and get one this year

Are they just that wary or what is the deal?? Trying to gather as much info before I drop 4g's to not kill anything. Is it even worth it?:help:

I haven't been out west but, compared to Easterns, they are much tougher to hunt. A Rio doesn't even figure into the equation.

As much as I loved it, I was just not eat up with patience. If you love a challenge, probably the biggest you'll encounter as a turkey hunter, then, yes...it's worth it.

Yep.......those birds "EDUCATED" us last year.....but we learned a lot to.

I got some ideas and we need to get ready a few weeks before the season.

Maybe we've found a subject that W is just not interested in. I notice there's no comments from him. Probably best, tho, since the only thing synonymous with W and turkey hunting is CACKLING. :p

The three day semi guided hunt is 700 and you can kill 2 birds that includes all food lodging and stuff to that nature. The flight is give or take 400 and the rental car for four guys will be about 100 each. Total I expect to spend around 1,300-1,400 total.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal right there. Pepper, could you define "semi guided"?

I looked on that site. It says a guide goes out with you in the afternoon and helps you roost a bird. Then you go back in the morning and hunt it up bayousef!

That would work for me. If I had a choice between a mouth call and a gun....I'd take the call any day. Just don't think I could sit there while someone else called my gobbler in. :shaking:

Salty.....I have hunted with a buddy calling and solo and taken Toms both ways. Both are good. With 2 or more people you can combine hunting knowledge. Sometimes one person will hear a Tom, while the other did not. Also locating direction of the Tom is usually better with 2 hunters.

That's totally true, Mr. Gerald. You can also sound like more than one hen. I was referring to a guide calling in the bird as opposed to doing it, myself.

specktator 02-01-2010 06:46 PM

turkey hunting is prob my favorite thing to do! i go on lottery hunt in sherbune and i have a few places in st. francisville.

LaAngler 02-01-2010 11:36 PM
