minn kota blows

If yall don't know my story here it is
http://www.saltycajun.com/forum/show...ight=minn+kota

that was the first time ever since then i bring it somewhere they replace the bushings or whatever you call it the piece in the back of the motor that that sends the juice to the motor ( it keeps melting) dhp worked on it 3 times (warranty) when that ran out i went to lake charles tackle. they did the same thing. it works about 2 times and melts it again. Now i'm paying for this $50 part every 2 times i go fishing. I called minn kota and poped a wheelie on them...no help:pissed:......anyway just want to vent and tell yall how bad minn kota blows

oh its back at lake charles tackle to be fixed broke again today

fishinpox 01-23-2010 06:18 PM

Salty 01-23-2010 06:25 PM

must be a lemon... Is it a 24 or 12 volt?

adamsfence 01-23-2010 07:20 PM

24 it is a lemon but minn kota should make it right..... That is my only complaint. I'm in buisness and when something goes wrong I make it wright

i agree 200 %

"H" 01-23-2010 08:13 PM

I agree as well, they should make it right.
I would keep calling them everyday until they get tired hearing from me.
Find out who the regional factory rep is, maybe he could get some action out of the factory.

adamsfence 01-23-2010 08:38 PM

don't have the reciepts. they should have a record of the work. I will get back on the phone come monday and try to get them to do something......DHP is the only one that does warranty on minn kota and they have been rubbing me the wrong way so i brought it to lake charles tackle. DHP everytime i go they aren't there and they just kept saying it was defective brushes i mean come on 3 defective ones in a row....I am far from a rocket scientist but i think there is something else wrong causing this.... I wouldn't be so mad but that is an hour from my house and it gets old everytime i go fishing it breaks and i got to make 2 more trips during the work week when i am working.

adamsfence 01-27-2010 02:28 PM

they sent me a email today this is what it said

That sure doesn't sound good, I would suggest you send it to the factory with any records of prior repairs. They will want to check it out and get back to you.

You need to reply back; Sounds good, I'll send it back, check it out & while you're at it, send me my money back so I can go buy me a Motor Guide. Thanks & have a great day!

longsidelandry 01-27-2010 03:04 PM

Tell them you're seeking legal help with this matter and will have your attorney contact them if the problem isn't fixed in a timely manner...

adamsfence 01-27-2010 03:07 PM

Ask 'em if they sell MotorGuides. :smokin:

adamsfence 01-27-2010 03:10 PM

maybe i could just trade out....lol

RaginCagin 01-27-2010 03:43 PM

Last year I was fishing with a buddy at big lake and his minnkota had a bad connection in the trolling motor. He had just got it back from Lake Charles Tackle the week before for the same problem. He drove from Bunkie to Lake Charles the following Monday and demanded a new trolling motor as his was under warranty still and they gave him one. Be persistent and dont take no for an answer.

adamsfence 02-04-2010 04:04 PM

all star rod 02-04-2010 04:06 PM

I have owned two MKs the 70 and the one I have now which is the 80# Riptide Pro with the lift assist boot. Looks like MK made good on the troll motor. I think you just happen to get a lemon!

specktator 02-04-2010 04:07 PM

You must have. I was checking them out other day. Look pretty sweet to me. Never had one though. I like that shock on riptide. I have an 82lb 24v great white. My dad bought it. I wanted riptide. It gets job done though. Charge never seems to last though. Especially on windy days. I have changed batteries and everything

I have that feature on my MK 80#Riptide Pro....

My uncle I fish a lot with says the same about his. He has a 82# and he even tells me my MK seems to last longer on charge than his GW.

i called them this morning and talked to the guy working on it he told me that when i got my trolling motor back i would be happy. he said he was going to hook me up. I feel alot better about it now. they seem to be making it right. just set me back 50 to ship it. i would have spent a 100 though i was burnt out on that thing

yeh it's quite frustrating. You can def only make one day of fishing on fresh charge. Then gotta charge it that night again if u going next day.

MattW 02-04-2010 04:26 PM

I feel your pain Adamsfence. I bought a 80# Riptide SF after Christmas and finally got to use it on Tuesday. It maxes out at about 70% throttle and doesn't pull the boat any better than the 55# that was on it. I called MinnKota and was rudely told that no matter how big of a trolling motor I put on the boat, I will not get anymore speed ( I guess a 25hp on a 12 foot flat will run as fast as a 25hp on a 24 foot bay boat according to this guy's math). I finally interrupted the guy and told him it will not go to max power. He said the speed controller in the head was probably bad. I called a guy in Many and he laughed and said he wasn't surprised that it was broken out of the box. I wish it wasn't brand new because I would deep six it and buy an old 74# MotorGuide like the guy had on his boat doing circles around me.

RaginCagin 02-04-2010 04:44 PM

Glad they made it right for you. I had a few problems with my 82 lb. riptide 3x when I first got it. Mainly a pin in the head kept shearing causing the head and the bottom of the trolling motor not to line it so you could not control it. I went through alot of frustration at the prop shop in Lafayette but we finally got it right. Nothing worse than a bad trolling motor when you get out on the water.

I have a 24v 82 gw on my boat that has never been put in the water. I've been debating on batteries for a while now. What brands have ya'll tried that have the same motor? I cant afford the gels or agms but I definitely want whatever is going to give me the longest charge in my price range

Check the water level of your batteries.
