How else does a guy learn a new spot? One or you guys interested in taking a Big Lake rookie? Should I hire a guide a dew times a year at different times? I do understand about new guys coming into your spots, but sure as heck, guys from your areas are looking for a "new" place. or, should we all be stuck to say, a 50 mile radius from where we caught our first trout?? Not everyone looking to fish a new area is an idiot. But not every fisherman is an idiot, but quite a few idiots are fisherman. |
:phahahahahah im comin to punish yalls lake:*****::*****::*****: and im bring the crew:p just kidding like you said most wont know when or how to fish the spots that mag did a article on wintertime venice fishing a couple of months ago well all those spots are great if the river is 2-3 or less in nola the majority of this winter the river hasnt been below 10-13 ft in nola i wonder how many people were tryin to catch speck in that muddy/fresh ****:*****:
|
Okay, are you to mean that river stages and salinity have something to do with this trout fishing game????
And temperature too??? LOL |
well, i can remember 6 months ago when the people on this site were all high and mighty about the fact that they didn't bash fellow fishermen. I guess it is not the site that makes the people but the people that makes the site. you big lake guys are some stand up guys. i guess when you don't have the confidence to know you can catch more fish than others you try to keep others off "your" spots.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I think this sentence needs it's own thread. Oh, btw.......pass the popcorn. |
just speaking my mind....people forget so quickly we all started the same way. no one was born knowing exactly what to do when it comes to fishing.
|
Yall do relize 90% of the spots that everybody knows was showed to them by someone else.
And yes W that includes you. Yall take yalls crap way to seriously. Im sure somebody will say,"well your the one to talk" Well i finally relized a few weeks back, it aint about the catching, its about getting out there. |

I myself have no problem with a fisherman coming try to fish a new area!! I have a problem when a 27ft twin engine no trolling motor boat come pulls in a new area and trys to fish......You laugh but I have seen this before!! If you know how to fish your not going to be a problem.....Its the ones who dont have a clue!!!..... I have seen ski boat, party barges , offshore rigs , 14ft flats with no trolling motor and twin motor boats try to fish birds..... I mean I have seen some things!!........Or you get the guy who can toss a anchor 25ft......... Or a guy who has a racing troll motor!!! Or one who drives in wide open!!!! This is what our point is!! Its not to keep guys from fishing its to keep guys who have no clue from messing me or you up!!! |

My daddy is better'en yo daddy??
I wasn't tring to pick a fight guys.......really. And I admit I may be a little sensitive. Was out the game for a few years (divorce, job change) and when I wet the Simplepeddler for the first time I had all these sneerings looks, like who is this newbie? I carried my own that day at the docks but still. I felt what it is like to be a rookie. Finally one of the guides recognized me from the good old days when I used spend thousands with him in my first life. all of a sudden it was like I was legit with the rest of the dock cocks. I really do not want to be that guy......... you know the one..... my boat is the best my reels are the best my rods are better than yours..... my place is the best........ In the immortal words of Rodney King "can't we all just get along?"...... |
I really do not want to be that guy.........

Some act like Big Lake is the only spot on the coast to catch, not only a "trophy", but, trout in general. I've been fortunate enough to catch 3 trout over 8 lbs and none of 'em came from Big Lake. :smokin: |

Think about how yall would fell if u spent countless hours learning that lake trying to find good spots away from the crowds to avoid problems. You find them spots out in the middle of nowhere then joe blow pulls up on you wide open shuts down on top of you and starts pushing his gps buttons. Next thing you know next week theres 10 boats there. All your hardwork down the drain cause somebody seen you where they never seen a boat fish before and just had to get them cordinates cause they know they got it with the push of a button.

there seems to be a lowering of IQ and etiquette once you launch your boat into big lake. i am not saying that doesn't happen elsewhere but it does seem to be more frequent there.
|
Just wait, it will only get better (or worse).
It's just another day on the water here. |

Tim...you are "like" Gary. I don't have to prove anything to anybody. :) |
I can see where you are coming from BossHog, I really can.
But come on, you are in your "secret" spot "away from the crowd" and then all of a sudden this guy who knows nothing of where HE is much less where YOU are is going to hit a button and bring ten people back?? Most of the time, the real blow hard Johnny VP of Muckity Muck LLC who has just bought his first 28 foot 95 MPH at WOT bay boat blow in, not catch the fish and figure WE are the idiots for sitting in a spot with no fish. Really, I've seen it with the better guides for years. They just tell the client "don't get upset, they don't know how to catch em and will leave in a minute" Greg Shlumberchet (sp) on Lake Borgne does it all the time. |
The availabilty of shallow water boats, has made desolate locations an easy outing nowadays.

There are some Secrets left........ And that is moslty time!!! There are a few areas or spots that will produce a good number of trout but only a certain time of year.. You might fish this area 11 months and not catch nothing then that one month its on......... This is what we avid anglers have left to go by..... We now have to jump ahead of the trout and other fisherman!! This is one reason I keep a good log of my trips!! Also tagging info helps!! I can track the fish over the years and it almost never fails.....They will repeat and repeat every year |
The obvious is now the best place to fish.........
that is a Bill Dance quote LOL |

Totally agree with ya Salty. My dad told me many moons ago that there will always be tons of pressure wherever the fishing is good and that is definitely the case on Big Lake as it is with many other locations. To the point about fishing your secret spot and then having someone pull up next to you and marking it on a GPS - my question is, what are you going to do about it? Let me answer it for you - nothing! Last I checked, no one owned any reef or hole. I used to fish with a guide who told me if you see a fisherman without a smile on his face, give him yours. Now I am not advocating posting up the location of every reef on the lake or telling everyone at the dock where to go, but I am advocating helping people out and just truly enjoying your time out on the water. I love catching fish, but I feel blessed any time I can just get out on the water and enjoy some time with my friends. |
