Okay, probably going to pull the trigger on a new ride tomorrow or the day after. What are the must have extras?

Getting a graph/gps on console, and a graph on the bow, swim platform, hydraulic steering, 80 lb Minn Kota and charger. Anything else?

36v trolling motor
onboard charger

trim tabs and hydraulic jackplate

i don't think the swim platform is a must. what kind of boats are you looking at?

Have the charger. Looked at the powerpole and it will have to wait due to cost.

Thinking hard about tabs and hyd jack. Not sure if they are "worth" the cost. Had them on my Blackjack and really helped getting up and running in the rough stuff, but don't plan on being in the rough stuff anymore. They are about a $1700 dollar add on.

anyone using the remote troll motors? Pros/cons?

Looking at the Frontier 210. It already has the swim platform on it. The boat will be used between Big Lake and Toledo mostly.

On the trim tab issue also. Had them on my Blackjack and when I used them at Toledo they seemed to have an affinity for haning on stumps for some reason.

Just make sure your troll motor has enough beef to hang with the wind and currents.

remote troll motors seem to eat more juice from your batt- ries.

The boat is 21' and weighs about 1500 alone. Fished many years out of a 2380 Baystealth with the same motor and worked well. Would the 101 be worth the extra cost and extra battery? Do you guy's that run the 101 have 3 or 4 batteries and pros or cons?

none of my business but i'm curious to know why go from blackjack to frontier?

i fish out of a 20 boat w a 109# tm i have 3 batt for the tm and 1 more for cranking the big motor, i like it because i never use it full speed unless im moving in real strong current or wind so i can get to the next spot w/o turnin the big motor on , also my battriess have never run down on a full day trip with the 109 when i had a 70# they ran down all the time

Not a problem. I was guiding and had to renew my USCG license and they wanted a letter from my doc on my neck issues (see the RX thread) and he would not clear me to renew. Simply could not afford to pay the note, insurance, etc at the time without the guide income.

Im like pox, got a 22' boat with 101 lb. m/k manual steer with 3 batt. and a fourth for my cranking,guages,washdown etc. Nice to have more than you need (Know what I mean?):grinpimp: Especially if current is hard.

I can only speak of MotorGuide but the wireless models are not what you think. Just more stuff to crap out. I have a Great White 36v 105# Hyper Drive and have never used 3 batteries. That's just alot of added weight. Almost like carrying Fool fishing with ya everytime . You can run a 36v off your cranking battery and 2 trolling motor batteries. No worries. This is my third 36v. I used to run 4 batteries until Ben Hollingsworth with Trolling Motors Unlimited in Chalmette proved to me that I didn't need the 4th battery. Been running it that way since with no problems whatsoever. You want a beast...get a MotorGuide with a 3-blade metal prop. Them plastic ones flex too much...no matter how many blades they have. Does your outboard charge your other 2 trolling motor batch ries while your running?

It can be done, but you will need some expensive elect. equip. to automatically seperate the batteries. The engine charges 12 vdc and the battery bank will be either 24 vdc or 36 vdc.

another thing you will need is, a salty sticker!!

cheif....you've seen my boat.....same thing. I highly recommend the trim tabs and a jack plate. I've gotten up in 14" of water with them with no problems.

Also, the swim platform is almost a must, as the frontiers have higher sides. Hard to get back in with out it.

81 trolling motor will push that boat easy and all day!

I have a friend who runs a frontier with 150 optimax. He has no tabs or jack plate and can not get up shallow like I can.

Unfortunately, funds have limited what I can do. (imagine that) No jack or tabs, right now. Will have to add them later. Got the swim platform on it.

FWIW go with a GPS unit that will give you satellite weather.
It has just been awesome! XM radio is cool as well.

I would never have my cranking battery connected to my trolling motor.

Trust me, it will be a lot cheaper to wheel and deal with whom ever you are buying the boat from for the extras at the time of the boat purchase. Once you walk out the door, you do not get any discount once you go back! I bet you could likely work out something with the dealer...for example....if I buy the jack plate will you throw in the trim tabs....Good luck.

again not being burdened with the facts, but the new motors in some cases have two charging outputs. I know the zuke does. not sure how to use it yet.

the pics are confusing one thumbnail has scratches all over the skeg but it says its never seen water ??? next pic shows the transom with no motor hanging on it , the ad is from a marine store/dealer maybe they are just going out of business and not really a repo

good eye pox two different boats for sure... One of the pics there is no throttle control on the console.... not so great a deal then

The motor has 84 hours on it, the boat has never been in the water. I called them about the boat. Yamaha used the motor as a demo or something. It does not have a trailer. It comes with full warranty.

I know the dealer well. Have bought several boats from them. I have pretty much got everything I can for the price I am paying.

Have some contacts that I can get the tabs and jack at a decent price later.
